I see many critics to the ending of Under The Dome, but I absolutely loved it, I felt that King translates the insignificance of the human kind in front of a giant Universe full of things we can't even begin to understand, and the fact that *spoiler alert** all that chaos was created by some alien kids and the metaphor of the ants at the end... It just made sense to me and blew my mind off. Great video btw, greetings from Brazil🇧🇷

Yeah, I've just read this... and loved it! - This is my 2nd fav King book so far after IT. I agree the ending was a little crap, but also agree, I can't really see another way to end thsi one, so it was ok with me. Did feel a little foot on teh break in the last few chapters though. (Also, Big Jim didn't decide to blow up the Meth Lab, he was trying to get the Propane and 'Chef' decided to hit the kill switch!)

I am currently reading the book AND watching the show at the same time. I have almost finished the show and it's funny to see how far off the rails it goes just to extend the life of the show. Very interesting choices. You should watch it just for the WTF factor. I counted at least 3 actors in the show that played on the tv show ER back in the day.

I loved this book and didn't mind the ending. I actually liked it even, but I think it should've gone way longer than it did. Give it a series, call it Under the Dome Part 1, 2, 3 or whatever, and then elaborate on that ending instead of dropping it in the last 10 pages of the book or so. The TV series though, my god, what a shitshow! (saying this as someone who just finished season 1 a week ago). Some of the worst acting out there that isn't helped in any way by a terrible, awful script. Also, that is one ugly book cover there.
@DaveReadsKing

I’m curious about which endings you think are worse than this. I thought that by far this was easily his worst ending, so disappointing and it almost makes me not want to go back and read it again. What endings do you like less? Or are you saving that for another video?

@@DaveReadsKing oof I loved Cells ending! I know some people thought of it as King just stopping writing, but I thought it was a cool little cliff hanger that still gave you a good idea of what was going to happen next. One of his only happy endings that I can think of.

@DaveReadsKing 2 года назад
I’ve still never seen Stranger Things so any comment with any real authority, but my understanding is that Firestarter was a big influence on that show. But I guess The Institute has big Firestarter vibes too. It’s pretty tough to separate King and Stranger Things though - both fans of and influencers of each other!

I came late to King and this was the first of his that I read, right upon its release. I still think of it highly, but I had no real frame of reference and I need to go back and read it again now that I've read almost all of his other work (perhaps this summer, we'll see). For me the ending was fine - I liked the fact that all this chaos was caused by something so small. As for you watching s2 and s3 of the show - you should. There is an amazing amount of insane story choices. So much so that I kinda use "Under the Dome-d" instead of "Jumping the shark" when describing tv shows that have so badly lost their way.

I struggled a bit with this one, although it wasn't necessarily the books fault. The size and when I read it was problematic. I read this towards the end of my husband's battle with cancer. Then I think what made it drag for me was I was reading it on my kindle and it stopped counting pages at 645 so no matter how much I would read i remained on page 645.

I would just like to point out that in my opinion Dean Norris is as much near to the actual Big Jim Rennie I had in my mind as it can get. I absolutely loved his performance as the absolute villain in the show, although I didn't like any other aspect of the show at all.

Chipmunk, woodchuck - we have neither over here and they look pretty similar to me!
