-Why do I paint?
I'm asking the question, why do I paint?
So. where should I begin?
I'll begin here:
It was my last night living in Encino in 1966.
Let me share with you my present day.
Now, when I close my eyes and look deeply into my past, my first artwork I can remember was at age 7.
My parents had just bought a home in Malibu, California, we were all packed and ready to move the next day.
The image that stays with me is hazy, but I can see myself sitting on the floor in an apartment in the San Fernando Valley with a friend my age and we were talking while sculpting playdoe.
Because I was distracted while talking, I fould my self creating a futuristic rocket car, I surprised myself at how neat it looked.
The reason I feel this experience is worthy of my sharing, is simply because I felt so wonderful while making something from a glob of clay, something I felt deeply apart of, and what's so profound is that I still have that same feeling today, it has not chaged in me. I think it's why I paint.
