I'm closer to 80 than 40, and 20 is a distant memory. This is a wonderful song that expresses what it feels to lose someone you loved, not a parent or a friend, but your long term spouse, the one person you held close for all those years, the one that helped raise your children. I thought I knew heartbreak at 17, or at 23, I really did, but after lying next to someone, holding them for 20 years or more, after all you went through.....well, it's very different, I can tell you. This is a great song. I wish him so much success.

I lost my husband at the young age of 56. I just realized I'm using my late father's phone while mine charges. Lost him less than a year ago and my dog of 16 years last month. Plus more, but that's enough loss for now. I have tears running down my face. How have I not heard of this wonderful singer?

When my dad died my mom was so devastated and they had a love that was truely beautiful. Before he passed he looked at her and said, Betty you look just as beautiful as the day we met. She remembered as much as she could of their love and that helped her to make it each day. God Bless you and Stephen as he brings out such great memories in his fans.

I was 58 when my husband died, it will be 11 years this year. We had been together 30 years...the time passes too quickly, never take for granted that there will be a tomorrow. OMG, this post and the replies to it just hit me in the heart. I recently lost my husband of 50 years, and replacing “her” with “him” in this song just resonates with me. As MyGTV2000 says, no other loss compares to the heartache of losing a spouse. I did hold him while I could (he was ill for 18 months), but not to be able to do that anymore is heart wrenching. For a 20-yr old to be able to understand that and write & sing about it so beautifully is incredible. Stephen, you are an amazing artist who is super talented and I wish you the best of luck & success. I love every one of your songs! ❤❤😊

His music is so good that it almost scares me. The sound is surreal. It's almost as if different types of music of the past have come together to form a new music that belongs to the present. Well, I can tell you that. The song is of course written from the perspective of an 85 year old guy who lost his wife. He's thinking back to all the things they've been through, the shoes that he bought her while on vacation, that she kept all those years until they were falling apart. The crinkle in his nose from when she says something in that way of hers that makes him smile despite himself. The kind of things that, as a couple, you accumulate over the years.
