Thank you for posting this. I have fallen in love with this musical. My only wiosh was that you had had a bigger audience, because this musical is life-changing. Thank you to everyone involved for this effort
It's important as young people learn and study and pursue some role in music or the theater that they have exposure to Sondheim. I'm glad this group from Butler had that opportunity. I bought the original cast album in 69-70 and still enjoy it. I have seen many productions of the show including the Tony- winning production that began at Cincinnati's Playhouse in the Park starring Raul Esparza and had the cast actually playing the score with their own instruments. Observations. The young man here who's playing Bobby shines in this role. The tempo of the first song, in comes.. "Company" is for me a little too fast. As Sondheim said "art isn't easy" and certainly Sondheim isn't either. When the actors who can say lines and make you believe it's the truth have a chance to shine or those who possess the special something appear, the show comes alive. Casting and direction can make or break a show. I applaud you and wish you all the best and hope you all have found continued growth, fulfillment and success in whatever you're doing.
Thank you so much Pete! This show was my first exposure to Sondheim and it changed my life. We were all so young when we put on this production… (2005!) When Sondheim passed I thought it would be neat to find the recording and post for everyone involved to reminisce about this show and replay this moment in time. Now, we are all in our mid to late thirties and I feel like we have a whole new understanding of the story and the music. I saw the show recently in London with Rosalie Craig as Bobbie and the cast was just fantastic. A show that can keep reinventing itself! Sondheim will be deeply missed but his music will live on!
@@jro797 Thanks for sharing. Our entire lives are an evolution of understanding. I have learned to never dismiss a new production of a work that I've seen many times for I have been dazzled by them too many times. It's often like seeing a new show that brings us greater understanding by that experience. You have so many of those ahead for you and I wish you all the best. Live theater and in fact , all art forms are a living entity. Thank God.
Thanks for making the pantheon of great Broadway musicals. One of the greates t show of all times. I’ve seen it 3 orc4,times! I remember when Steinfeld was starting out. I think he wrote the lyrics for “Gypsy’?! Anyway,he is a musical genius! Enough said. The accolades can not possibly equal the infinite pleasure? Was Company really the musical version of Boys in the Band?! 😮ciaou 8:43 8:52 8:55 musical treasure and genius!m Thank you for hours of lis Thank you for bringing sount
As much as I love this musical, the dialogue and music are very dated in the 70's. You kept the retro feel, which is fine. It's just the kind of musical that should be updated to the times if it's to be understood and appreciated.
It's a university production and that's when you experiment and learn your craft. When I was in university we did productions of Romeo and Juliet, Our Town, Two Gentlemen of Verona, A View From the Bridge, and others that required us to play characters who were much older than our biological age, and it was a wonderful challenge because we studied those plays, and were able to challenge ourselves and explore the world outside of what we had experienced at that point in our lives.
