I'm glad we have RU-vid to see these guys and others from that generation... forever. For soon they will be gone without other musicians at their caliber to replace them.
This is why I flew there from Alaska to see these icons while they’re still with us. We lost Robbie Robertson before the festival began. Eric played two of the songs from The Band to honor him.
And Eric mentioned Jeff Beck beforehand. Jeff toured Europe then the States just before he passed. There are numerous RU-vid videos of all those shows! Fantastic. 🎉
Boy 1 of my all time favorites. Sad no one sang along with Steven since the song is known for it's vocal harmonies. Great psychedelic guitar freak out from Steven tho'.
The electric guitar 🎸 is such an amazing instrument- it's so sensitive: fingers on the strings, pick-ups sending to amplification. Stephen Stills plays one note and you can hear him. Same instrument, six strings, but produces each artist clearly (!) Human feeling, vibrating strings- electricity, speakers! 🕉
Agreed, the vocals are tough, but I will always regard the original recording of this as some of the greatest acoustic guitar work ever placed on vinyl. I can't think of anyone more prolific on the stage and in the studio than Stills was between '66 and '82.
Eric Clapton seems in most songs he went on the stage without any rehearse and he said ok i will improvise based on where their hands are on frets... he just jammed most of the whole show..like without knowing the songs or what they will do exactly..is it always like this?
Well at least Eric came in and saved this song with some clarity and semblance as we would expect. Props to Stephen for giving it his best tho. Guy is a legend but hearing & voice is shot ?
Yes, I think he is actually deaf. I think he is wearing hearing aids and thus having a hard time with hearing his own vocals. Very sad. But great to see him and of course, EC.
Not really several decades. I saw the last CSNY concert in Tampa in the early 2000’s . The singing and harmonies were amazing. Stephen and Neil played some incredible guitar solos around each other. Crosby & Nash sang beautifully. A memorable performance for certain.
Stephen Stills has a severe hearing loss. Diagnosed when he was 9, it has steadily deteriorated over the years. Couple that with an aging voice (he's 78) and those notes easily hit, in his 20's through 40's, become far less easy to hit and/or stay on pitch at his currant age. All that said, he really should have someone who can hit those notes, and sustain them, do the vocals these days. But it's always nice to see him (still) out there!
