The sternocleidomastoid (SCM) muscle gets tight from poor posture, and because it contributes to multiple neck motions (flexion/sidebending to the same side/looking over the opposite shoulder). Frequency of this stretch is up to 2 min each side, 1x/day. This video is a follow-up to the prior one and part of a series on neck stretches and forward head posture exercises. Another key video in this series is on chin tucks: • Forward Head Posture? ...
Our next video will teach you how to stretch the muscles just below the base of your skull. We post every Sunday, and we take suggestions on what you'd like to see.

My first thought was also about the button down so glad you addressed that first off 😂 I really like this self massage - it relieved neck stiffness. I don’t know if I’m imagining things but it also seems to give a little relief to my tinnitus after doing it. I’m going to keep experimenting!

Great! You're likely not imagining things :). The SCM connects to the mastoid process, which has air spaces linked to the middle ear, so releasing it can reduce tinnitus. Releasing this muscle can also reduce jaw pain and vertigo.
