In my experience you REALLY have to be patient with costochondritis recovery like what Micha discussed. For me it took about a year with no dips before I perform one with no pain. Currently I can do about 20 in a single set.

It took me around a year to get rid of sternum pain. I did t-spine mobilization and included ring pushups as fast as I could. I neglected it and sometimes pain was gone for a week then it returned. Take it really easy, really slow. Try to not 'pop' your sternum, it feels good for the short time but slows down recovery. Currently I'm at 3x10 ring dips.

wait you could perform push ups with that pain? what was your technique an answer could be really helpful from you🙏🏼
@Nunak91

@@GigaGoo first I started t-spine mobilization and then I included pushups. You can start with incline plank position and hold it, do half reps, whatever you can, but don't push through pain.

Shoulders drepressed and tight chest totally make sense to avoid putting too much stress on the sternum/rib cartilage and intercostal muscles. It's absolutely essential to use correct form on dips, injuring yourself totally defeats the point of exercising.

Strangely enough, I’ve only ran into sternum pain / mild costo with ring pushups (particularly when I used to use too much PPT). Dips have always felt fine on my sternum.

I over stretched my chest about a week ago with pull-ups, dips, and bench, not enough warm up. I think some of my muscles separated from my sternum.

I've been experiencing sternum pain during the day, but never when i train pushing movements, including dips. I believe it's because of the heavy dip+ sit around combo, which has me in a really tight sternum position all day. Do you think i should include more stretching and maybe have a 1 or 2 week deload or should i stop doing dips all together for some time?

ive started getting sternum pain after weighted dips maybe like 2 weeks ago but didn’t think anything special of it, thought its just sore chest so i took 1 workout break from dips but today i was doing weighted dips again and on my first set i felt a sharp and fast pain after which i couldn’t even do bw dips and my sternum still hurts even when not doing anything, i really just hope the idle pain goes away fast but comments got me genuinely curious how long will it take till i can do dips again? ive also yet to decide will i be doing any push movements in the next couple of workouts and is that a dumb idea?

So I just started doing weighted dips not that much weight just 5 kg and had no pain during the set however the next day I woke up and I can feel pain in that area but it's not like crazy bad its just sort of there and it gets worse if I move a lot or sneeze but the pain is never there when I'm not moving, so how long do you think it will take me to recover because I really do not want to give up dips
