I wasn't sure if I wanted that style, even though I liked the True Blue in pictures, but after seeing it in a video, I'm sold. That color is amazing. The electric blue is a bit much for me to pull off, and the navy is dark enough that I'd actually prefer black. The new one though, really hits a sweet spot for me.
Your enthusiasm and natural radiance make your videos so fun to watch, in addition to the information you give! 😊 You have a great smile. The bobblehead demonstration had me rolling. 😂 It's been 2 years since you acquired the beaver hats. I hope they fit better now.
Man.. I am glad I came across your channel. I have been following Kevin from JJ hat center to get more info about the open road hats. But you offer much more than hats... Thank you for sharing your opinion on these products brother.. Peace ✌🏼
The regular Strat; including the “Pure” one with beaver, are 4.5” tall, but the Premier is 5.5”, I have the Premier (rabbit hair) but it fits soooo nice, it actually fits secure, but none other works, open road, gun club, they are all too shallow.
On the strat' fold the sweatband out and pull on the liner until it releases, pull up in the hat, its held in with a lil glue. Don't take it out just leave it in loose like that then fold the band back in and put the hat on. This should relax the liner in the hat.
Is that Mario Van Peebles lil brother??!! Sure got strong resemblance. Got myself a Stetson open road 6x. Caribou color. Thanks for sharing your videos to help make a choice on my first dress hat. Love the fit, style, color and its power... public reacts to you as a gentleman. My next Stetson will be the Yancy in the phantom grey.. Blue Skeleton
Enjoyed the Video,my wife also liked the video, the first thing she said the hat is to small,he needs to go to the next size In the open rd,and add a spacer if needed, and to be honest I was thinking the same thing,I really joined your take on the hat, love the blue beaver In the open rd.Thanks
Is the pure open road worth the extra money?? Ive debated between the royal deluxe and the 6x open road, I thought I'd prefer the royal but this weekend found one of each in my size, got to try, like the 6x a lot better and now Iam thinking about just pulling the trigger on the pure open road. Worth the 475 on the sterson site??
You can re-block the wobbly hat to give a bit more spage height-wise in the crown (Kevin from J.J. hats demonstrated how to in one of his recent-ish videos, but I am not sure which one). Having said that, this new one is absolutely my favourite from the ones in this video!
I was going to say the same thing. But you don’t really even need to re-block the hat (which mean steaming and stretching back over a block to get back round , then re creasing) you just need to steam it and open up the dome of the teardrop so it sits down on your head a little more. Kevin talks about this too. Love these videos though! Thanks for your work.
@@CJCook Where did you find it/ purchase it? Was it limited release, or is it part of a collection? I'm determined to track it down if it ever becomes available again. Thanks so much for your help, and your wonderful videos and channel. Keep up the great work!
These hats are just for fun; I had an actual vintage hat box made for a Stetson my father purchased in "48" Eventually my father passed away but we kept the box and hat for another 30 years! My hipster nephew found it in the garage and claimed for his own. My father's box went to pieces much to my regret and had to be discarded. Those cardboard boxes should serve you long after you've moved into the retirement home.
i have the same extact problem with the pure beavers, i got one in the white and everysingle time i go out it falls out my head, only hat thats ever done that, still havent fixed it so i dont wear it often i might try leaving it in the sun for the band to shrink a tad for a tighter fit
Thank you for the video! considering all the colors of hats you own, which color do you wear the most on a daily basis, the easiest to combine with any outfit?
Depends on the season: I have a straw Goorin Bros hat in a dusty rose. I wear that one all Summer. Then it would be a tie between the tobacco and silver belly for cooler months.
Beautiful hats, I'm a hat freak I have 17 stetsons but I'm in the process of getting my first open road , the pure open road is it more Beaver Fur?? I know the regular one is 6x , I have 30 x and 100x in all colors El patron 30x it feels like the 100 x El presidente but there $400 dollars difference, thank you for your time.
Great video! I want one but I’m not sure I’d wear it often enough. Not supposed to wear a hat indoors? I’m always indoors. Restaurants, store, office, home, movie theater etc…. So I wear it as I walk to the door?
You probably should go by JJ hat center let them steam the hat for you and make it more of a long oval or steam it and then put it on your head and let it conform to your head better just an FYI the liner will come out without having to cut a hole in it just lift up the sweatband and you can pull it out The liner is just glued in
I wear an Open Road in Silverbelly and really like that design. I'm not much on "non-traditional colored" hats, like burgundy, blue, funky green (sage is fine), and so on. I like the white, tan, chocolate and gray. I'm a fuddy-dud, what can I say. BUT... THAT is a beautiful blue Open Road!!! I'd be proud to wear that lid! I even like your navy hat. The cattleman's crown makes a lot of difference, but the hat from J&J is a no-go. Wrong color blue and wrong shape. It looks like a classless pimp's hat. 😂
Lol, as an advid hat lover, in hindsight I don't know why I didn't tell you, you can steam the hat to loosen the felt and mold it to your head circumference
you probably have some of the hats loose because you have a round head and you're trying on oval shaped hats. I have the same problem, there are these special tapes that you can buy to fix that. It goes behind the sweatband either on it or on the side of the hat.
I like the caribou but unfortunately that isn’t an option in the True Stratoliner. I wonder is the blue hard to coordinate. My gray hat went with everything. Sadly it was stolen recently.
CJ, I’m trying to buy my first Stetson. Probably an Open Road. I learned about the Pure editions that are 100% Beaver for a lot more money compared to the Deluxe. You have two Pures. What so you think? Are they worth the extra price?
I like the fit of the Stetson Pure Open Road more than the Stratoliner. If you could get a Stetson Premier open crown. Those are nice (soft felt) and much cheaper then you could do a custom crown.
@@CJCook Thank you. I assume you mean the Stratoliner Premier Open Crown. It was a high possible choice. Do you prefer it over the 100 Beaver because of cost, or does it have similar quality to the 100 Beaver (Pure)? I hope my question is clear. Various RU-vid make a big deal about the 100 % Beaver.
@@fredsheriff7107 it has similar qualities. It is heavy AND soft. I would say the Stratoliner pure is not worth the price. The Open Road is worth the price.
Today we have hand gel and I strongly encourage everyone to use it before touching a hat; The oil naturally present in your hands destroys the brim and acts as a permanent marker! I'm reluctant to advocate for spray treatments made by 3m. What are your thoughts?
Is that a permenant middle crease in the Pure Beaver or can it be shaped like an old skool gangster fedora with a Tear drop? Any one know? Angel from The Bay
@@CJCook Thanks for you reply. For Father's Day 2022 (Sunday 06-19-22) My wife bought me a Pure Stratoliner in Alabaster. I received it today 06-23-22, everything about it is perfect. I couldn't be more pleased. I was concerned with the middle crease like the one in your video. The one I received is shaped like my older Royal Stetson Fedora (bought in 2008) I wear mine like the old skool gangster style, tail up, front down. This is one happy man. She gave me a new plastic reuseable bag so I could set my hat in when we're out in a restaurant. I can't have it getting dirty. I'm sure someone out there makes something I can put it in, while I'm dining, if not I'll have her make me a nice silky bag. I'm curious where other's place their Pure Stratoliner in Alabaster when their out dining? I don't wear my hat in doors. Angel from The Bay #blessed
@@earthangel8875 What a great gift from your wife for Father's Day! WOW! Yeah, I usually place my hat on a chair resting on its crown. Some restaurants have hooks on the wall or a shared coat rack near the table as well. I once went out to dinner with the Ol' Lady and when we walked the in the host asked, "Can I take your coats?" I replied, "You can take my hat." My Ol' Lady laughed cause she thought it was silly but that is how things use to be.
@@CJCook I got to take my new hat out in the wild today. I brought that new reuseable bag with me. I don't even want to handle it without sanitizing my hands first....seriously I can't stand "stains" or smudges....specialy with the color Alabaster...think OCD for sure. f I didn't have it prior to owning the hat I have it now LOL it's all good. I love my Pure Stratoliner, I really do and the glances, and stares I get LOL funny. I get it though, males these days in the Bay Area, Silicon Valley, CA mostly wear baseball caps. So when people see me, a guy that looks like he's from the 1940's-1960's I get it. I started using Fedora's when I was 12yrs old off and on and in my Teens, somethings don't change. Angel from The Bay
Basically everything on the Stetson website is out of stock. I understand that COVID has affected manufacturing but come on, I think there may be other issues...
@@CJCook Don't have one yet, but I got to get one. Haven't decided on the color, maybe chocolate, sage, silverbelly. My wife wants me to get navy. She insists on buying this for me for xmas, so I have to wait! What do you think, 6x or Royal Deluxe?
That Pure Open Road is nice! I hate to say, but on camera it looks like your hats are possibly sized to small? I agree they should not fly off your head..
Hey man, thanks for the videos. It's interesting to see your shared interests from red wings to now stetsons hats. My opinion is that you are wearing the open road incorrectly, and it looks like it's not your size. The hat is not supposed to compress your skull and the crown is supposed to fall on the top of your head allowing just a finger over your ears. Also, western hats are a lifestyle that serve a purpose and not to match outfits colors. Bad advice to say they need to match belt, boots etc.. I also don't think you got a box this time bc Stetson watched your previous vid, sometimes they ship hats without the hat box specially if you purchased from an authorized dealer (they hang the hats for display and discard boxes). Price dictates the box - El Presidnte hat comes with a plastic case that retails for $80. Sorry man but you've gotta a little more experience to learn when it comes to western hats. But if you like hats that don't fit your head.... we all have our preferences. Cheers.
That is why you don’t buy a hat by mail!!!! You have to go to the store and try on the hat and see what happens when you wiggle your head around to find out if it’s to loose on your head
@@patrickkelly1070 I call bullshit! I have 20 custom made hats ranging from $500-2,500 and the maker says handle them by the crown, not the brim. I bet you’re the kind of person that lays your down on the brim and not the crown too, huh? Also, only children claim to be the grownups about things they obviously know nothing about! So, fuck off, and happy Turkey Day!
Too much wasted dialogue. Get to the comparison. I wanted to learn about 100% beaver, but I had to listen about boxes and laughing. I still did not learn about beaver.
