@@deangreen2567 same, the only 2 moments were him breaking jonathan’s camera and bullying him in the alley. he got his shit rocked tho which i think makes up for it
do y’all have any idea how much robin must’ve trusted steve to come out to him? it’s hard to come out to friends now. imagine how hard it was when this took place- in the 80s i believe it was. robin had to have been absolutely certain steve would accepted her. mad respect
after saying she was obsessed with him though she didn’t have a whole lot of options but to explain. you could definitely tell and FEEL how nervous she was after saying it too. so i think absolutely certain is an overstatement but she definitely had to have some amount of confidence in him. kind of unrelated but i can’t imagine how hard it would have been to not talk about this episode right after the season came out (but obv keeping it in would have been important to not spoil for others). i would’ve wanted to talk about it and absolutely nothing else, ig i’m lucky i only got netflix when the season had been out for a while lol
@@Iisho you are talking about the imaginary figures made in a piece of paper with manipulated non existencial characteristics that are made to entertain people? Ok got it, that's better for sure lmao
@@Nobody-su9km I can shorten that for you: they're fictional characters. There's no reason to be a smartass dude. People can look up to fictional characters, often times writers will try to tell a message through their characters. There's nothing wrong with people reading into it.
its so sweet how he doesnt get mad when she comes out to him... he just starts making fun of Tammy Thompson like everyone does with their bestfriends crush 🤩
Solaire Sun Praiser this is the 80’s my friend. The time when being gay was treated as a mental disease. You couldn’t tell anyone, or act like it, for fear of becoming a complete outcast to society. The fact is Steve’s probably the first person she’s ever opened up too. And he’s probably never met anyone that’s gay either. It’s a lovely moment that is time sensitive
I love how in season 1 steve was homophobic then in season 3 instead of judging robin he makes fun of the girl she likes. And thats on CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT
@Jorge Chavez in that time period ‘queer’ was a slur therefore if you were saying it to someone 99 out of 100 times it was an insult and that 1 time was probably said by a queer person themself
it's just amazing because. you can see the evident distress and fear on robins face, how horrified she was to tell him. but instead of steve reacting negatively, he goes "really? tammy? do better." and it was a huge relief on robins behalf, you can tell. a wonderfully written scene
Dt Mt lesbians in high school are lesbians, it’s not just an “sjw phase” lmao i mean, how tf is it just impossible for someone to be gay in high school? that makes absolutely no sense.
I know, right... for a moment, the roles were reversed... Dustin being the more mature of the pair... The interaction between Steve Robyn is great, but we can't forget the friendship between Steve and Dustin... Just another reason why this show is so great....
@@zandyman2577 Because coming out as lesbian to someone you knew as a douchey jock in the 80s was the easiest thing ever. The 80s generally were sooooo great for LGBTQ+ folks, especially due to the sociopathic brain damaged asshole that was president. And yes, there was one fitting that description even before Trump.
@@zandyman2577 I mean I'm a lesbian and act exactly like Robin to my male friends, and tell them how much I love them and appreciate them. It's fucking entitled as shit to think someone should let you know from the start they're not planning on getting with you rather than just assuming them being kind is the status quo.
It sucks that when Steve finally got over Nancy and found a girl he liked - one he genuinely liked, got to know and wanted to be with, not just some fling he could also casually hang around with from time to time - she turns out to be gay. But honestly, their friendship is beautiful and she looks and acts like his sister anyway lol so it's better this way xD They're going to have some real, epic moments together for sure - I'm talking like, _they can rival Steve & Dustin friendship_ kinda moments.
The last scene is low-key so beautiful in so many ways. For her to come out to him with some hard to swallow pill, but then he just turns around and starts instantly giving her light-hearted relationship advice. And not only that, but she reveals to him one of the deepest pains in her life, and he instantly makes her feel better about it by making her feel like there are better girls out there than Tammy. Low-key, Steve is like the best friend you could ask for lol.
Lil Sket There were plenty of gay people in the 80’s, there just weren’t as many people who were open about it since society didn’t accept it at the time.
Their bathroom scene is one of my favourites. Steve accepts that he loves robin and confesses and then she turns out to be a lesbian. Steve doesnt realize it the first time and robin looks so hurt then steve realizes the truth and thinks for a while and instead of being upset (cause its not the best situation to confess to a girl who you didnt know is a lesbian) he supports her and makes her laugh when she feels destroyed Now that is great character development on steves side and great relation between the two characters Them being besties is much better than being a couple
@@KingOfParsnips I mean, they're right. I'm bi myself and my friend was lesbian and we were rooting for them for so long. It's kinda like Marvel randomly giving us that female empowerment scene in Endgame while failing to make a movie with a female lead for ten years ( !! ). Don't give us characters that were meant to be straight and then suddenly change them ( because maya hawke herself has said that she was supposed to end up with steve before they changed it ) because y'all wanna be woke.
If they would be together, the next season would just be relationship drama probably, so this way they get to stay as the banter duo which I’m 100% for
I really liked how genuine Robin and Steve's affection was for each other. The bathroom scene is a given, but I also loved Robin's concern and anger when she found out that Steve was getting the shit beaten out of him -- "Don't you touch him!" was such a great character moment for her and kind of solidified why despite not being attracted to Steve, she genuinely admired him in a way.
The bathroom scene is so good. I just love the emotion in the hysterical laughter near the end. It’s almost like they were both surprised at how Steve responded and the relief they felt together was euphoric. Just the laughter as they realize they both love the hell out of each other just as they are is so well done.
I’m so glad they didn’t get together, it would have been so predictable and the moment between them in the bathroom is one of my favourite scenes in the whole season
Season 1 Steve- we hate him Season 2 Steve-we want to marry him Season 3 Steve- we want him to adopt us Tysm for all the likes never had this many before
Steve accepting Robin for who she is is a great moment, and I wouldn't trade it for anything. But goddamn, do I want this guy to find love. Steve deserves it.
I think the beauty of Robin's story from the beginning is that most, not all, but most of the viewers thought that she was this outcast who didn't get noticed by Steve and that she wanted to be with Steve when in actual reality, some part of her wanted to BE Steve because all the girls noticed him, not her. I think it's a nice change in terms of storyline. Like some commenters would say, if they ended up together, it would've been too predictable and too generic. This relationship of theirs gave us a friendship we never knew we needed. there's a lot of gay guy characters with straight female characters friendship, so it's nice to have this from Netflix :)
The bathroom scene is still my favorite of season 3. You could feel the anxiety Robin had with coming out and the wave of relief washing over her when Steve accepted her and then criticized her choice in women.
I really love that the writers made them into best friends. All boy-girl relationships in this series end up as couples, except the Scoops Troop... They should adopt Will in their troop 😆
*I was obsessed with you* I know the writers made it that way to mislead the audience, but I appreciate how it actually means that Robin looks up to Steve, and now they're best friends
Tbf, she made it clear in her next line after that, that she was obsessed with the things he had, not really him. “We still just want to be popular, accepted, normal.” Since she felt like an outcast because of her sexuality, she just wanted to be seen as normal and to have people like her like people did with Steve. At the time, since we didn’t know her sexuality, I assumed she was just a social outcast in school. Them being love interests seemed too obvious, so I always viewed them more as friends from the start, and this scene was one of the ones that made me sure they wouldn’t end up together by the end. I didn’t predict that she was gay though.
Tammy Thompson is missing out. Robin speaks several languages, plays sports, can play a musical instrument, is funny, resourceful, and highly intelligent. Not to mention, she has great tastes in movies. She is quite the catch.
I love that Steve's reaction to Robin coming out to him and confessing her crush on Tammy Thompson was to basically tell her she could do better than her.
Nate Anderson it wasn’t. He likes robin so he was playing it off like “meh she’s alright” in a comedic way it’s something people have done a lot in movies and shows
I love this scene even more now knowing how closed off she is about this part of herself and she felt safe enough with Steve to share that. What was once petty hate and jelousy turned into a genuine love between the two it's really sweet.
Yeah I noticed that too. Steve clearly internalised that interaction with Nancy because it really hurt him, so "bullshit" when he says it carries a lot of baggage.
I'll never shut up about the music in the bathroom scene. It's so amazing and fits so well with the scene, how the beat keeps increasing and getting louder and louder the more they laugh.
“You see that table over there to your right?” Steve: *looks left* Steve, I love ya buddy, but your strength definitely lies in STRENGTH, and unfortunately not in INTELLIGENCE
