Steve has encapsulated the human, humble and wit of Caroline ... a Great woman, recognized by a great man.

Sadly missed and this is one of the most beautiful, genuine and sincere tributes I have EVER heard.

His eyes at the end show how much he misses this woman.

Just days before she died she was was spotted walking around London laughing and smiling with her friends. Even till the end she was smiling such a lovely girl she will be missed.

The sketch from the Dead Good Show where Steve and Caroline play a Manchester couple complaining about their holiday is genius. As is where Mrs Merton interviews Steve. They were brilliant on screen together, how I wish they’d done more. RIP Caroline

Caroline was the same age as me. I never met her, though I have met one of her Royale Family co-stars Sheridan Smith a few times to talk to. It's a crying shame that Caroline never got the chance to eventually grow into the "little old lady" Mrs Merton, that she was so brilliant at portraying...some of her exchanges on that show were legendary, like with Debbie McGee, Chris Eubank and the late Bernard Manning. Her other characters and the routines she did as herself were also brilliantly done.

came to find this as I just noticed it was recently the 4th anniversary since we lost this wonderful woman, I have been recently rewatching her in The Royle Family and never forget just how much of a great character Denise was. Caroline will always be missed for her immense amount of talent and laughter she brought to any work she did :)

Caroline Aherne, how wonderful she was 😢❤️

When she wrote The Royle Family I think that she must have been spying on me, and my friends, all her life. I'm slightly older than Caroline Aherne and slightly younger than Craig Cash. We all grew up within a few miles of each other and, I can only assume, drank in the same Stockport pubs occasionally. I see the Royle Family as much a social documentary as a brilliant comedy.

I first saw Caroline in her earliest steps on a stage, doing a character called Mitzi Goldberg, who was a Jewish Country & Western Singer. It was startlingly original and funny, but she chose not to develop that persona sadly. With the wonders of something like RU-vid, she will live on, and continue to be discovered and enjoyed by youngsters as they mature. Great words from Steve who was developing his own skills at the same time around Manchester. Wonderful days on the small club scene 1989 onwards.

Jusr watched Mrs Merton and Malcolm, it is comedy gold. I miss you Caroline x

Never realised how important she was in her private life,despite her comedy stuff. I think she could have been a really good stage actor too, in serious roles had substances not got a grip on her.

"She attacked me, using her nails to scratch at my neck, tearing off my necklace and ripping my top." and "And although she was really contrite the next morning it marked the beginning of some serious screaming-banshee behaviour - putting cigarettes out on my arm, attacking me with bottles, knives, chairs and other assorted furniture." If the BBC weren't absolute hypocrites with double standards, they wouldn't have standards at all. If she had been a man beating his wife instead of a woman beating her husband, her career would have been relegated to the dust bin of history long ago.
