"Thank You!", Mr Steve Earl. I played your Jerusalem CD when the killin' in Gaza began. Who would have thought that your music would become sooo revelant in 2023. Thank you, sir. and, ... Merry Christmas!
For the people of Palistine, may we respond to your cries, and god forgive us of our weariness of not responding to our brothers and sisters needs. We might be of different beliefs, but a one true god has us watches over all of us, has the anger of Cain of our bloodletting of his holy body.
Beautiful song. It gives me chills to hear it. This should be a must listen for everyone in America. Forget the propaganda, open your minds and hearts because it is never too late.
Steve Earle is one of the most patriotic folks alive...just because you aren't wrapped in the flag all the time and question things does not make you anti-American......
this is my favorite Steve Earle song, after yrs and yrs of being his fan, this man just continues to show him his great love of humanity, the rights of others and all that we have to continue to be thankful for in our lives.
Everything you know of Christianity is wrong. Jesus was neither European or African he was Asian ( Not that it matters, but I'm just saying how badly he is missinterprited. Infact what Jesus of the Bible preached is more in accorance to Buddaism. Jesus has been used more then any body in history by the powers of state (same as it has always been every state and every government, every person that has looked to gain worldly powers has claimed religion of some sort). Not that I am claiming any sort of religion wheather it be this, that or the other but let's be truthful about what matters most in religious parlence, lets not walk in the path of a lie.
mathew idicula I think the most important aspect of Christianity is not whether or not the stories are true, but the morals that Jesus taught. Regardless of whether or not he was the son of god, he taught forgiveness, and that is an incredibly important lesson that everyone in the world should learn. Love thine enemy.
you are not dreaming you are not fool Steve Earle, I believe your pray, because I believe all might Creator, let wait his angels, to carry light from him to all the world, wait patiently , believe patiently dear Steve Earle
You are right. Steve Earle is one of the few people sharing his gifts today who really loves this country. Disagreeing with American policies isn't wrong, the founders laid it all out a long time ago. It's free speech. It's what sets us apart from many people in the world today. God bless Steve Earle.
Steve Earle may have been bigger in 1987 with Guitar Town but I think in the last decade with songs like "John Walkers Blues" "Some Dreams" "City Of Immigrants" and this beautiful song Jerusalem, he's become a better musician and singer. His message has gotten through better. A lot of these folk singers tend to sound better with age. Have you noticed that?
"Jerusalem" I woke up this mornin' and none of the news was good And death machines were rumblin' 'cross the ground where Jesus stood And the man on my TV told me that it had always been that way And there was nothin' anyone could do or say And I almost listened to him Yeah, I almost lost my mind Then I regained my senses again And looked into my heart to find That I believe that one fine day all the children of Abraham Will lay down their swords forever in Jerusalem Well maybe I'm only dreamin' and maybe I'm just a fool But I don't remember learnin' how to hate in Sunday school But somewhere along the way I strayed and I never looked back again But I still find some comfort now and then Then the storm comes rumblin' in And I can't lay me down And the drums are drummin' again And I can't stand the sound But I believe there'll come a day when the lion and the lamb Will lie down in peace together in Jerusalem And there'll be no barricades then There'll be no wire or walls And we can wash all this blood from our hands And all this hatred from our souls And I believe that on that day all the children of Abraham Will lay down their swords forever in Jerusalem
it's steve fricking earle, man, what more could you possible want more in life? i'm want more in life? got a husband who loves me, three beautiful children, an ipod furll of every album steve ever made and a chabnce to see him on June 20 with my only, dear beloved sister in Texas....life is good,,,what else do you else do you need> God has covered me i riches.....
as a recovering addict, with 19 months clean, Steve Earle's music has gone a long way in saving my life...of course, i know i did most of that, along with God's help, but he has led by example and grace in so many ways.
9 months and a week free of alcohol free. February 11th, 2023 I stopped after almost 6 years of drinking too much and chasing something I shouldn’t have.
Proof that we need song with meaning and talent behind them, because as jaded and use to the same old same old society we are it is artistry such as this that makes the word reall again, congratulations Steave Earl you are the Oscar Wilde of the late twenty century and beyond, the Oscar Wilde of lyric and rythem. P.s. Fuck Justin Bieber!!!!!!
I covered this song yesterday (Easter Sunday) at church and the people were blown away.Got a lot of praises for it.Of course I told them it was a Steve Earle song. Thanks Steve
i've been a fan of Steve Earle's for 20 yrs, you are right, he is very underrated in this country, c/w music pretty much sucks these days anyway, i think, but you can't even call him that...there's really no way to put a single label to his music....he has inspired me so much in my own life as a recovering addict, he has 14 yrs clean and i have nearly 16 months, i hope until he's 95 yrs old...keep rockin' Steve, we love you...
hey, you guys who aren't as "old" as Steve and I are (in our 50s) keep coming back because he gets better and better, sure he was incredible in the Guitar Town days, but nothing like now, aged passion is better than that first fire because it's real.....
II surely like this song very much, and sometimes I strum and sing it in my room here in this strange german town...Sometimes I wake up with the melody in my head. And sometimes I use the melody in stressful allday situations to activate power of heart and soul inside myself, and it functions. I grew up in the middle east and still know the sweet old world. How heartical the old people and every word they used have been. Free from all kind of zynism and sarcasm that intoxicates speech all over the planet in these unholy days of ... well, I don't know, you name it... There's just one thing about the refrain that I might sing in a slightly different way - if it were my song...I maybe would not say " I'm hoping on that one fine day, where all the children of Abraham.. will lay down their swords forever in Jerusalem", although the line sounds real good and has a huge emotional value, but probably : "where all the folks 'round Jerusalem, will lay down their wars forever for old Abraham", or something like that, because : everybody knows : the holy land is NOT nowhere, and if you ever felt the deep harmony of the land, you'd know what I mean... Everybody knows: the children of Abraham definitely lived in peace together in the good old land, until the neurotic, psychotic wars and problems of greed and power were imported from "europe" (Russia, the Empire, etc, let's not get too deep right now - I mean : it's just a song, and a good one too...with a full grown autonom melody, that you can easily, and beautifully interpret on a Hammond T5 or some church organ...) And let's not forget : Father Abraham set an end to the slaughtering of the Moloch (war culture) that someone sets in scene again and again, sacrifices... - what a shame and sin... poor babys poor Inca artists, poor soldiers from everywhere.... th killing and wars will end one day,... war culture 's no good... So where is the sheperds to feed the lamb for the love of the Fathers towards the sons, for the love of Jesus and evreybody else with a heart that pounds in harmony with universal love and happiness, and creating like this a form and expression of "POWER", that can finally invite the alien, invite the lion, and not kill all the creatures - animals, plants, spirits in panic reaction. Revolution starts now. Omar
God bless Steve Earle....he's been a continuing inspiration in my life, as a recovering addict myself and as a person who tries to help out when i can.....
Loved him from the moment I heard his first tune out, "Guitar Town". Followed all his trials and tribulations, and have seen him live along the way. I am so glad he has ended up like this, and not dead from drugs. Couldn't take many more of my idols going that way after Jerry Garcia.
One of my favorite books about Christianity is 'What you Don't have to Believe to be a Christian." I remember singing Jesus loves all the little children of the world -- yellow, red, black & white, they are precious in his sight." Thanks for sharing this video of Steve Earle, a musician and actor who has paid some dues.
haven't listened to this in a few days, but always, always have to start off with it, my favorite Steve Earle song and i've been a fan for 20 plus years....the best singer ever!!!!!!!! the best songwriter ever!!!!!!
Thank you for this video clip on CMT . Fantastic song. There is hate most of old folks pick on younger age today I should know I get it a lot in today. But I believe someday they pay what they do wrong in there on life.
The die was cast before our birth, when the earth stood still and time yet to hold its sway. We are of doomed stalk, to fight is noble but in good or ill we fall just the same. May our hearts keep us may it preserve us to all that that crumbles and fall.
Having known Christians, Jews and Muslims from the Middle East, I'm moved by this song. I don't know if it will come true in our lifetime. From what I can see, conflict will always be part of the world. But I don't want to think about what the world would be like if everyone gave up the hope and belief that there could be a day when we'll all lay down our swords together.
video, i think we have been asking for years why Steve is so ignored in the music industry, why so few people know who he is...for me, and the last 20 years, his music, passion and commitment has been a great comfort and support. i'm a recovering addict who has leaned on his music during rehab to get me through the worst few weeks. I've been through it three times, now, 17 months clean, i hope this is the last. But, I will always, always love Steve Earle....
well after meeting him a couple of times and briefly speaking with him, and listening to his music for 20 yrs, i can't believe he doesn't believe in God or a higher power....you can hear hope in his music, that says something to me..
I'm watching this over and over. It's great, I've been sharing it with others. I also like the live version where he's standing and the acoustic one where he's sitting. Although this video is super. Anyone notice that in the front view shots, his harmonica is by his neck, but in the side shots it's up in front of his mouth, they musta merged different clips. I still like the overall effect, with all the clips, and Steve's great emotion.
great song, why does this video have so few hits? why is steve so underrated? funny because I've never saw this on CMT where Iive and i've been watching CMT for years now... (even though not as much)
Yes... but I would bet that it hasn't occured to you that Christians and other people of faith might have something worth hearing. Atheism's a form of fundamentalism. And to those wondering about Steve's faith... he usually says he is agnostic when asked, but does show respect for the faith of others. His song "God is God" is probably a good reflection of his views. Also, Christianity and socialism go together just fine. (Though I am pretty much a Christian anarchist.)
