I know right, I am very lucky boy....both the JAR and this were in house for months. The JR was in a box with a small Christmas tree on top (that's all we had) and I had no idea.
She is sneaky and clever all at the same time, I was gutted when the seller sold the item and ended the auction early......she saw my pain but with an evil grin 😂
You must have some absolutely immense self control, because I certainly would’ve played this drum to the point where the black powder coat would end up an inevitable mess and at least one of the lugs would die on me. This has got to be my favorite of all the Yamaha signature snares they’ve released, followed by the Manu Katché.
Oh mate you have no idea how much I have wanted to play this and it's a beautiful drum. I actually contacted a powder coater yesterday to see if they could match the colour and finish with a better durability. Not only can they match it they can make it more durable for a total price of $120AUD. I have the later Manu and it's like a Ludwig Black Beauty and I have one of those from a friend to play soon....
Hey, thanks for very nice demo! Loved the story how you got this! : ) I have one with serial 0129, but the hoops were changed in some point. I fitted shiny new 2,3 mm Gibraltars and they do deliver though. Have you tested this with different wires? The original 10-strand sounds really earthy and percussive. Have a great day! Mikko
What snare wires are you using?sorry didn't catch what you said? I have the 1st gen 14x5.5 birch model..something about the sound though. I feel you can really hear the snare tone coming from the bottom head. Really Fat and sensitive sounding. The snare bed is really deep so you have to wind the bottom head down a bit further than most snare drums.
If memory serves me right they were Puresound 20 strand custom series and that's usually all I use unless I am experimenting with different tones etc, I usually just refer to them as "Puresound Snare Wires" but I have used the brass wires on occasion especially now that getting anything in Australia is a little problematic. You are right with the snare beds being a little deeper and yes the bottom head is a little tighter than usual, sounds amazingly warm and PHAT!
I guess it's more of "had" but there is a new one out but I like the maple. Had birch, maple and steel is I remember correctly. All discontinued though.
@@stuartquinn-harvie5327 have one of these. (Nickel/Brass)Amazing drum! I also Have a Maple one like the one in the video. Metal hoops have lots of black powder coarta chipped but in overall good condition. Waiting for a Steve Gadd 10 strand snare wire because it didn’t have it. Will be putting it up for sale soon.
