It's great Steve Hackett the ex-Genesis guitarist still plays this live in it's entirety. It is still absolutely amazing live. This is without doubt the the most epic of all The the Prog songs. An incredible journey, with amazing pieces of music all woven together to make this masterpiece. The ending still gives chills with the amazing crescendo and reprise in a different arrangement. The time sigs for this are off the scale. Pure 70s Genesis, Pure epic Prog.
I’m 62, I think I head this song for the first time at about 16, and continues to be one of my favourite songs by one of my favourite bands, and yes Steve Hackett is a very good guitarist and severely underrated for his body of work, he helped create some great music. It’s the first time seeing this for me and while the sound had great body with the orchestra, it just proves how great and talented all of the member or Genesis were…sorry are, considering it was released when the members of the band were 22-23 yrs old, and they created a masterpiece.
I had the pleasure of seeing Steve Hackett twice with Genesis. The first time with Peter Gabriel as lead. It was actually Supper’s Ready that turned me on to them. Master musicians all!
Yes ... One on my best memory from a Genesis Concert It was also with Peter Gabriel ... One of my first concert ... It's remind me that at this concert he played guitar sitting on a chair ... :) Second time I saw them was with "The lamb lies down on Broadway" ... Great concert too
I flew from my home in Mexico 2000 miles to San Francisco to see him play last year and it was well worth it. I can't imagine seeing him with a full orchestra!
The man who invented the guitar tapping technique (now frequently used in metal not the least) to help him off doing incredibly inventive guitar work starting with Genesis in '71
Very well orchestrated and arranged with all of the timing signatures and instrumentation happening! Great music! Steve Hackett is the man! This came out magnificently!
Steve Hackett is believed to have brought the 'tapping' on the guitar into rock music, years before the likes of Eddie Van Halen and others used it. It was a technique common in jazz before Hackett introduced it to the world of progressive rock.
Oh how I love this track although original line up can’t be beaten it’s not a bad alternative saw him live do this back in 2021 but wasn’t lucky enough have him accompanied with an orchestra I feel cheated lol , but that solo at the end I did get to hear and it was amazing live , great reaction 👍
Genesis ending - always epic, Steve Hackett = pure Genesis! And as experts says - Genesis music is very simple, but they match perfectly which is really insane! Steve Haktett can recreate this magic! His second name is Genesis ... as any other from Genesis: Peter, Phill, Steve, Mike ... they are all named Genesis in first name, this is unusual but normal for Genesis ... even after 40 years Steve is pure Genesis.
A shame you didn’t do the whole thing. A classic prog song. Also, for an amazing Hackett song from recent years try Loch Lomond/Phoenix Flown from his album Beyond the Shrouded Horizon.
the first time I saw this song performed live is when Peter Gabriel was still in Genesis in 1973 at the Roxy in Los Angeles. I say this without any overstatement whatsoever. It changed my life forever 💥
I’m old enough to have seen the Genesis line up w Peter Gabriel on lead vocals; everyone of them amazing musicians. SR is great but my top-2 would be Firth of Fifth and The Cinema Show. You guys should really check out this era of British Prog Rock.

My favorite version is on what I consider to be one of their best works & the one that got me into Prog "Seconds Out". Hackett was still there, but left right after & Collins had replaced Gabriel as lead singer not long before. Much much better in every way. Also, you really do need the whole song to get it in context, but it is around 25 minutes. It is amazing & unique though.
Would like to see you done Peter Gabriel or Phil Collins version better. I mean that guy on key board s is good but he’s toney banks. Drums are lacking as well
I like that you chose this live version, but why did you start it in the middle of the song? I have this concert. I had to watch the first half and then switch over to your video when it reached the right spot.

Great cover with the original guitarist, however the [Genesis] studio version or Genesis live with or without Steve is Sooo much better... Tony Banks (keyboardist and composer) and Phil Collins on drums and vocals if not Peter Gabriel on vocals is a MUST see and way more musically impactful. A great [I think the best] live version I Highly suggest is from the live album Seconds Out when it was the first tour I believe that Phil Collins did vocals after Peter Gabriel left, and Phil sounded So much like Peter in that version with a little more flair imo, Oh and Steve Hackett was still with the band doing his great guitar work.
