i'm so tired of reading "apple copied Xerox"... It's so much more complicated than that...Xerox practically gifted them the Alto Computer (the GUI prototype) that was made at PARC, But the ALTO was HORRENDOUS and almost the only thing that survived from that prototype was the navigation concept itself... Mac OS (or System Software) was so much more developed and optimized that the similarities were almost non existant.... The only thing that apple copied almost exactly was the Mouse.

The idea was sparked by seeing the initial GUI made by xerox though. I was not intending to underplay what apple has done for personal computing.

To think there would've been no Microsoft.. if they didn't have the Mac to copy from ... and one thing most people don't know about is the before Windows became the worldwide leader of software, the NextStep OS was going to be the one that would be the software on various desktops.. IBM's, clones, Dells you name , all would be running on NeXt software, however Steve jobs being Steve Jobs finally decided to stick to his principle of Hardware and Software amalgamation.. and not just sell the Software tweaked for different hardwares.. If Jobs had sold Next OS to IBM's etc. cirxa 1993-1994 it would've been Game Over for microsoft. Now, To think, all of Microsoft's success would not have been possible if Steve Jobs hadn't passed up an opportunity to be the no.1 software Co. in the world, and rather stick to his principle of hardware and software combined. Most of us would never have heard of a Microsoft.. Apple's name would still be there... If not Microsoft, some other investor..

If it depended on Xerox at that time, people would continue to type on a black screen with green letters for a long time. The team that Xerox created was brilliant but their ideas were not well received by the board. Jobs and Gates saw a great oportunity for that newly designed GUI. The difference was in the elegance as it was implemented by Jobs, earlier.

When Job’s was alive his haters said he makes extremely restricted products when he died they said Apple won’t last without him. Well he did make restricted but wonderful products and Apple is doing just fine without him. The M1 chip is a grand indication of Apple’s subtle innovation.

U may think of "Microsoft tablet PC 2002" but dude it is not a tablet,its just a cheap little pc without a keyboard,and it had no new features it runed windows xp!!!!! Problem though is that in the 90s when Apple tried releasing lower cost Macs it caused enormous financial damage by cannibalizing their high cost Macs. Also MS licenses its OS to other companies. They don't exclusively make their own PCs like Apple does with their Macs.

That's not true. Microsoft copied Mac in its software. The windows 95 was a copy of Mac. If Steve Jobs wasn't into Hardware-software should work together and licensed its NextOS to other companies. You will have never heard of Microsoft. Apple would be the king. That's the truth. Accept it or not. He refused to license the OS his company was making to other companies. It was way ahead of its time.
