David so I watched your video on barre chords. I’ll watch it 10 more times because I’m going on 2 years and still can’t transition from barre chord to open and back. Is this because my hands are not as big as your? I don’t have tiny hands but yours look longer and that has to make it easier right? Am I doomed because of this because I’m so frustrated? I can play clean barre chords if I set up for them but it’s on the fly I have to pause and I love country and there’s so many Bm and F major barre chords. Make me sad I haven’t figured it out. Thanks! -Ryan

Hi Ryan - I hear your frustrations - please know that u r not alone and most players struggle with the frustrations of barre chords - they are really challenging and take time and patience to get proficient at. I have a few suggestions for you. First off the hand size doesnt matter. I have taught eight year olds to play barre chords. So doesnt matter if you have small hands. Yes, I have very big hands as I am a big guy at 6 ft 4inches. And sure, bigger hands do have a little advantage but anyone can play barre chords. So much about them is to ensure you are using the proper techniques for playing them and the proper techniques for changing to other chords with them. I want you to watch this video on barre chords - www.david-lessons.com/egi/bct_video.html - watch that one and check out the technique tips I give in the lesson and the changing tips. Then compare to what you are doing. Do this first then send me an email back with the results and we can go from there. Email me at TheNextLevelGuitar@yahoo.com - stay positive - you will get there, maybe its just a few simple tweaks - watch the video, try the techniques, then email me and we will get you through it. And thank u so much for checking out this video - really appreciated! And be sure to take a good look around the channel as we have tons of killer content and lessons - lots of fun stuff. Enjoy and stay tuned - lots more lessons and content coming soon. I also have another RU-vid channel at ROCK ON GOOD PEOPLE here: ru-vid.com - which is more instructional based and not song based like this channel - be sure and check that one out also - lots of killer lessons and content as I post on both channels. @DFV Louderilk I’m in my 40’s now too. It’s frustrating I didn’t start when I was a kid. I was too busy playing sports that I can’t do now. Thanks man for the reply.

Yeah, lot of players start with electric and then move over to acoustic as certain techniques like barre chords are a bit harder on acoustic as with acoustic the strings are thicker and action can be higher, little harder to play. Bummer about your Taylor - hang in there and keep on rocking! Take care and have a great day! -David Taub, Next Level Guitar Inc. & EGI

@DFV Louderilk that’s a bummer I agree. I sold both my Taylor’s and bought a Martin HD28 special and a Martin 00018. Just the better guitar. I like taylor but Martin just is unreal. My problem is not getting the barre chord to ring out clear. I get a nice sound but it’s switching from open to barre and my pinky and other fingers get all lost and never land right. It’s driving me crazy because I can play really nice rhythm with songs that have no barre chord. Ugh. I’m ready to say screw it but it limits me to just am the same old songs I always play.
