He is not underreated. He played in one of rock history's biggest bands for longer than the original legendary member. Stop with this "underrated" thing, please.
I'll go with "oft overlooked outside of the guitar community" rather than underrated, hell he won Guitar Player of the year in GP magazine for so many years they took him off the ballot!
Hard to name a better guitar/bass duo than Steve and Dave. Old guys still just killing it. Hopefully we see another Flying Colours album in the future.
Just to see him play after the hand problems is like heaven. and he is a composer like no one else. The dregs stuff was something no guitar "hero" could do as a songwriter
Steve Morse - My all-time favorite guitarist! So melodic, so creative, so prolific! Met him ages ago at a music store in Wheaton, MD. He was gracious and respectful to all his fans. He was a pleasure to meet. Only wish that I could have met Dave LaRue.
I had no intention of filming Steve this night but when the master is 2' in front, I just had to pull out the point & shoot & document it! I did not film the Dregs. What a fantastic night of music!
The sound is pretty good datflys! Steve is not only a great well rounded guitarist, he;s a really great person. Watch his interview with Rick Beato, it's fantastic and his opening piece , Vista Grande, that he plays with his own backing tracks, is just an incredible performance.
well i am glad you did and up post it here thank you for that not feeling any touring love that brings Steve back down under .. even my love of a band wont tour here 11 years since the last purps down here
Steave - we love you! Waiting for your return in Deep Purple band! Miss you much! You were in right place and in right band! Hello from Russia, Moscow! We met with you twice near Balchug hotel in 2006 and 2008 I think.

I got to see Steve, Dave and Van tear it up in Boston on the Southern Steel Tour over 30 years ago. Just amazing and probably the best three piece I’ve ever seen.
A true mastering prodigy of his art,it’s about hearing between the lines when this maestro plays, his album Stand Up left a huge indentation on my fleeting life!!!!!!!
@datflys great video!!. Thanks for posting this. FYI i think YT mislabeled things, the song at 14:01 is Highland Wedding not Relentless. Relentless Encroachment started at 5:50. I'm sure something got messed up by YT when you loaded it.
This is the real Steve Morse and Dave Larue. Thanks for sharing the footage. BTW, I think the setlist should be adjusted prior to 'On the pipe' as follows. 00:04 Name Dropping 05:45 Relentless Encroachment 11:00 Chat 14:00 Highland Wedding And the name of drummer is "Dru Betts."🙂
Vista Grande has to be one THE great rock instrumentals of all time. It's got everything you could want in terms of depth, variety and subtlety. A rock star with none of the pretense in him.
Скажу честно, пока Стив играл в Deep Purple, мне его игра совершенно не нравилась. Но теперь слушая эту игру скажу - вот именно здесь его место и это гениальная музыка.
Mr. Morse is quite o.k.; but that man on Bass...😮 After minute 4, i only listened to him... ah yeah, by the way, i'm only here to get a good ENGL demo in a band-context. Now i remember... THANKS!
Hey all just putting it out there after seeing him doing it live down under with the peoples a few meet and greets spending time with janie (RIP) lovely lady now, does a vocalist fit now? in your time line , i know ,been there, seen that .spoken to you many times held and played no 1 sort of feeling the vocal fit ,,, just asking and any plans now to tour and come see us down under ?
The tone ,the off beat rhythms, just jumping from one key to another ...makes me nauseous .and I am not trying to be mean . Great skills . It's like all over the place . The other guitar player that has the same effect on me is Pat Metheny . So there I said it . But more power to them . But it's like I can't listen to it . I want to and I try .
@@stilllife4uPat and Steve had similar studies while in Miami together so the similarities are understandable. Jazz, fusion, rockabilly etc are complex music types so the scattershot nature is not for everyone lol. I listen to Protest The Hero a lot and my friends have said the same, so many time changes and crazy movement, it's too much to follow but I love it😁
@@krob5375 I listened to one of his LP's . And it was literally making me ill . To me it seems like hes makes up or creates a tune by recording a little bit here and a little bit there . That is to come up with a tune . Spotchy is that a word ? Some of the tunes , well honest making me ill . How can that be ? Does he have good chops . Yes ! Is he better than me ? Yepper . But something is out of kilter . But lets keep the love and respect going .
I really am glad to see the band back together ! However, they used to play a lot more up tempo! Maybe if they stay together ,the band will get tighter! I hope so! Plus, it would be good to hear some new music, something 2024, something Apokalyptic!
Well they are almost 70 lol, doing just fine I think. I don't know if you've heard of Flying Colors but Steve and Dave are part of that band, some really good music, very worthwhile listen if your not familiar but wanting some different stuff🤘
@krob5375 Thanks a Million for the text! I have known Sreve for a long time, going back to Atlanta in 1969. I used to meet him going up the stairs to play with Duane Allman, while I was coming down. Back then most of the guitarists really didn't like Steve and thought that he was arrogant ! And I guess that there is some truth too that; although I always got along all right with him. I just feel like Steve never realized his full potential despite a lot of super performances. I remember watching Steve curse all the members in the band except Morgenstein. This was in Birmingham when Mark O Conner failed to show up! Mark was tired of dulling solos with Steve. Steve has missed a lot of good chances to put together a really good band and play some really great music but Steve just never took off his rock and roll tennis shoes to mature and find out what music is really all about on a high artistic level like Beethoven, to be a first rate artist. It is like I said- Steve ( like most musicians) just got caught up in the tangled web of the music business! I could go on and on about how Steve really didn't make full use of his Classical technique to make a major musical breakthrough. Steve was always giving it the gas with high gain! He just couldn't balance out. On top of all that his hand injury is a terrible hit! Maybe Steve can pull everything back together this time. He certainly has the talent and genius for it!
@@StephenHALL-g8u Interesting. I can't speak to Steve's character not knowing him personally, so I won't, but I would say that his music and ability are amazing, least to me. Very, very few people reach greatness akin to Beethoven, but I think his legacy among guitarists is pretty secure. Always seems like the guys with some of the best ability in any genre are relative unknowns. Gatton, Emanuel, Becker, Oldfield, Lane.. on and on of phenomenal players most of the world never knows. Nonetheless, his resume is pretty impressive - Deep Purple, Kansas, the Dregs, Flying Colours, SMB.. heck, even opening on tour for John, Al and Paco which was awesome. I'm sure I've heard him say, maybe in the Rick Beato interview, that he's not disciplined enough to be a classical player. Me neither lol. I'm more R&R too, there's a lot more freedom there. Anywho, I for one am glad his career went as it has. His playing was a big influence on my own and still is✌️
Hard to believe that Morse was fired by Gillan et al via management while Morse was on hiatus with his ill wife preparing to return to a Purple tour in 5 weeks back in July of 2022. They don’t get any better as a person or a musician as Steve Morse. Purple didn’t deserve him
I'm not sure this is true (first sentence). I heard he left on his own request. (can be researched on the net) (Actually - reading between the lines in some interviews - he might have been tired of touring anyway, but - being 100 % a pro - he would have never admitted. So that's just my interpretation, which of course might be wrong.)
@@Willi-WucherRoger Glover in a recent interview stated that they decided to let go of Steve Morse and had management do the dirty work. This happened at the end of July 2022 as DP was winding down a tour with the fill in Simon McBride. Morse was planning to return in September to resume another tour.
There is no rhyme or reason .Just like licks . So hate me . After playing for 60 years . And playing 7 different instruments . More power to ya Steve .
Too bad - there is some great music with Deepmorse. Enjoyable songs structure solos etc. Find it hard to believe that you enjoy his solo stuff but not in Purple unless you want RB back
