I love Steve Perry, he handles himself with such class and grace. I will always support him in what ever he chooses to do and remain a fan forever of him.
Steve is always a gentleman, I know he has to get tired of people asking him if there's a chance of getting back with Journey....I have great respect for him.
And asking when he's going to bring out a new album... If and when he is ready! He's a perfectionist.. he won't release it unless he's happy with it. And it may even be a project too personal to share with us.
I adore this man and his incredible voice. I would pay any amount of money to hear him sing live. I missed my one chance to see him live with Journey in 1983 for the Escape tour...Mom said I was too young to go to the concert at 14 y/o. I don't think I ever really forgave her for that. I had such a huge crush on him back then and he still looks good at 65.
I saw Journey EVERY tour including Raised on Radio before they abruptly shortened that tour. They're shows with SP we're absolutely AMAZING! I was higher than a kite walking out NATURALLY from they're shows. NO drugs or alchohol was needed. So uplifting. Shows were always sold out, fans delirious, memories will NEVER fade. Music scintillating. NOBODY could lead a show like SP, NOBODY 😤😤😤😤😤😤😤😤
Steve Perry, u r soo beautiful to look at! Wow! I'm a firm believer that the way u live ur life is a reflection of the way u age. That said, Steve u r ageless, baby!.wow.
Steve! My God.....I just drove my son to school and driving home "OH SHERRIE" came on the radio. I blasted my stereo as loud as I could without blowing out the speakers! I actually liked it when you came down in octaves because I could hear and feel your earthy soul and grit. The only modern day singer who could ever be compared to Sam Cooke even currently to this day. You are a soul man!! You are among the best writers and on the list of Rolling Stone's Top 100 vocalists OF ALL TIME for a reason.....and I just heard that reason in my car. You are forever cool and have not a fkng thing to prove to anyone as you have LAID IT DOWN in a way that NOBODY who's ever sung your material could match up to or surpass. Don't know why people keep chanting, whether for or against you going back to Journey as you have made it clear for YEARS that you DO NOT WANT THEM and have wished them well. People need to wish YOU well now as you have done nothing to anyone and have a right to be respected for your past work and in your right to move forward in ANY direction you wish.
My thoughts exactly! Steve is well, happy and living his life! We are his 4-ever fans and look forward to his new music as we wait patiently! He is so worth it! Always FTLOSP! 💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕💕
I don't know & we may never know what the truth is about them breaking up. I will say that Steve Perry is a Class Act. Never has he said anything negative about his former bandmates. Serious props and respect to this man.
I love his voice, and look forward to hearing more music from Steve Perry, the man is awesome. And was blessed with the voice that rocked the world. Love him.
i love steves voice.his voice is one in a million. i wish he would go on tour.with or with out journey .that would be my dream come true.come on steve make my wish come true.love you!
Very Humble man Steve is, grown to have such Wisdom and I feel inner strength altho it took many bumps and some pain ( sadly) along the way. Don't we all though ? I loved him as an Artist ( an Incredible one at that, with that God Given Gift of his Voice, As a man , who wasn't afraid to be transparent and show his tender heart, and an courageous Human Being to draw the line and stick to his convictions when his back was up against a wall and he had some hard choices to make. You have my utmost respect Steve, and my heart felt affections,, always ❤️❤️Shonna
After all these years, Steve and Neil Schon had to go their separate ways. They are worlds apart. Wonder who's crying now? I say to Steve: any way you want it is the way you need it. Don't stop believing, cuz the wheel in the sky will still keep on turning. Your fans will always love you faithfully, with lovin, touchin, squeezin, open arms. Be good to yourself, and when in doubt, don't fight it, just say "I'll be alright without you" or better yet talk to Sherrie.
What new CD? There won't be one. It's been 23 yearts since his last one and he's been talking about a new one since the '90s. The freaking '90s. And you STILL believe there will be new material? HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!
@@goosewhisperer6275 Sorry, not into easy listening music for 80 year olds. More like Perry Como than what we knew as Steve Perry. Pretty sad. From rock back then to rocking chair now. Boring shit. Have to be on death's bed to enjoy this shit.
@@goosewhisperer6275 You're excited about boring renditions of two old-ass Xmas songs? Seriously? Hahahaha. Want good new material? Good remakes of great songs that rock and are better written, better sung, better played, and better produced? Check out Gregg Rolie's new album. Now that's good stuff, unlike this snoozefest Perry shit.
Re union? He can no longer sing his old journey songs. He cant reach the high notes not lke the old days. Don' t get me wrong guys im a steve perry fan also, let the great voice of journey rest his pipe.
They can always try to sing like Steve Perry and a nice job they may do, but they could never sing and write music the way he did. Only Steve Perry carries that gift and no one can take that away from him. Yes, I'm a fan!
Hey Steve Perry will always be a class act the man is strong God and his fans will hold him in their hearts Merry Christmas to Steve and his loved ones
He left Journey hanging....not once but twice. He was the sole reason for the split in '88. And he expected them to sit around and wait 2 years to tour in '95. He was a great singer, but he has always had a large ego. A class act doesn't screw his band mates over and over.
danimal097521 That's funny. There is a distinct difference between "leaving" and "leave them hanging." After ROR he said he didn't want to do it anymore. He wanted a life. Clearly if "they" wanted to, "they" could have went on without him. Perry was an individual (just like the rest) who was a member of a band. He made decisions that were best for his mental and physical well-being. No one paid a greater price than Perry for his health issues after TBF which were beyond his control. Hell, there wouldn't have even BEEN a TBF if he hadn't resurrected the band back then.
danimal097521 1 album followed by 10 months of touring....6 nights a week...per year.....going like that for 10 years. He was the driving force of the band but those tour whores drove him into the ground. Fingers can get calloused....it makes it easier to play guitar and keys....give a singer a calloused vocal chord and he's finished. He needed to protect himself cause they sure as hell didn't. His mother died during the making of "Raised on Radio" album and he was in the recording studio laying down vocal tracks while grieving and right back out on the 'FINAL' tour in 88. they didn't give a crap about their band "brother". He broke down from depression and mental exhaustion. Left them hanging? They wouldn't have had sh#t if he wasn't hired to begin with. They couldn't sell an album or get radio airplay and their record company was dropping them. It's well documented. He put them on the map. Step off ....ASS.
Wish Flower I've heard band members criticize Perry for talking about his mom's death and the effect it had on him and they said something to the fact that, "... everyone of us suffered losses in our family." Not exactly sure how that is relevant. If you lost your mom and didn't care, it didn't really have an effect on you - or at least not to the point it did for Perry who still wears the music note necklace his mom gave him.
Wish they would QUIT asking him if he going back to Journey! He made it clear when he quit, that there was no going back! Let him live his life and do what he wants now. Quit trying to live 30 yrs in the past. I saw him with Journey 9 times in different cities back in the 70s, 80s and 90s. All the old videos are on RU-vid if you want to relive those days, but those days are over so just wish him happiness for giving us those memories! Don’t mean to sound harsh but we have to be real. He gave up a lot for us fans...now it’s his turn to “live life” the way he wants...
I would rather hear Steve Perry singing on a new solo cd than have him be the lead singer of that band again. New Journey as I call them now without Steve Perry will never mean the same to me as it did with him as lead singer and co-songwriter.
Sharon Paige Ha Sharon. As I'm sure others on RU-vid could tell you when it comes to a certain guitarist I'm definitely not one to write positively about him online.
Sharon Paige LOL. I'm not that cool. I just know that Steve doesn't need to be the lead singer of a certain rock band to be admired and respected worldwide and I hope he realises that also.
GRANDE STEVE PERRY EL MEJOR CANTANTE Y COMPOSITOR DE TODOS LOS TIEMPOS ERES ÚNICO STEVE PERRY TÉ AMO POR SIEMPRE GRACIAS POR TODO LO QUE NOS HAS ENTREGADO EN TU CARRERA MUSICAL DIOS TE BENDIGA POR SIEMPRE : DESDE CHILE TE AMAMOS ; Fans 2018 🎤👏👍👍👍💕🎶👍👍👍🎤
Axel wasn't as big of a douce bag by remaking old hits with a replacement guitar player. But Neal did those remakes with Arnel, so I would think that Steve't not going to sing with Journey anymore. If he does sing at the R&R HoF, then it'd be for the fans and certainly not for Neal. But I won't be upset if Steve doesn't sing with Journey anymore. We still have recordings of him singing and that's what I enjoy listening to, so Steve doesn't have to prove anything. Not to me anyway.
I Truly Believe that Mr. Perry really doesn't want to have anything to do with his ex band rmembers at all. I Honestly Respect Mr. Perry for showing his ex band members their Respect and I notice that whenever the subject of rejoining the band for a reunion comes up; He quickly responds that it's not going to happen. But he does it in a way that doesn't offend anyone. I think something happened between them that turned him against them. I don't think Mr. Perry is ever really going to tell his version of what really happened. It's his choice. I'm just happy that he has decided to sing again😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😘
GO TO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME WEBSITE AND VOTE FOR JOURNEY. THEY HAVE FINALLY BEEN NOMINATED.....WITHOUT THE TRIBUTE SINGERS INCLUDED! The only singers in the nomination are Steve Perry and Greg Rolie
+Dream On Thanks for that, I saw they were nominated so I'm going to go vote. I'm still pissed that Bon Jovi hasn't been nominated, but it doesn't make me any less happy for Journey. I think their day will come, just not this time. Never mind, I just realized I'm a little late to vote. Hopefully all other Journey fans have voted.
I was 14 years old when I first hear him sing: Open Arms😍 The first Journey video that I saw was Seperate Ways. Been in Love with their music ever since😍
Steve Perry is still so handsome, all things considered. I mean, most people his age (and who have gone through the same profession) look .... REALLY WORN OUT. Like Neal Schon. No shade, but he looks every bit the septuagenarian that he is - maybe even older! Oh wait, Steve's older than Schon, right? Darn! Steve looks like he's around 50 or something. Still good looking for someone nearing 70.
Won't happen. Too much drama with Journey now. Steve might finally talk to Neal, but I doubt he will ever talk to Jon again. I say this because of the Traces album cover. There is a dove on Neal's guitar, but Jon's keyboard is broken and scattered everywhere. So, not looking good, but with the death of EVH, maybe Steve can just let it go. Life is short. We shall see.
In any endeavour we encounter, we should look at a person's attitude, character, demeanor, skills, experience and knowledge . Arnel Pineda is a very humble humanitarian person and yet some hates him.The question is why? He even founded a foundation to help street kids and homeless. There was one concert that a fan threw a beer bottle at him while singing.
God how I miss HIS voice. Journey was epic when he was the front man. I don't give a shit about this guy who sounds similar to Perry, and nobody will make me think differently because I was in my teens when Journey and the other great rock bands were making it big. Escape was for me their best work.
They are legends no matter what they reunite or not..I think we cannot blame schon for finding another frontmen of journey as what he said on the film everymans journey they wait 1 year for iSP to undergo a surgery but he refuse it and after another 1 year he decided to do it but after that SP never come back to the band until they are tired if waiting and for how many years past shirley(producer) thinks that SP afraid to sing again in a tour thats why they hired some frontmen..For me whatever the cause of their misunderstanding journey is the best band for me (old and new)..thanks for sharing your music until now..
Steve should tour and not with Journey! There is too much history and dissention. He should share a stage with Arnel??? I think not, Arnel is the soundalike here from another time. Journey will always mean Steve Perry's voice to me but I don't think he should go back! Go out and find out you don't need Journey Steve!
I think Steve and Neil had a good relationship. Steve Smith his another I think Steve was close to(the animal).I love watching him hit them drums. I think that if they couldn't waited for a little after Steve had surgery it would of worked. Like Steve Go do what you have to do but don't use Journey because the songs that they worked and put out there Steve was very much his babies. I don't blame Steve bring upset. Seems like the bass player was also involved to go on tour because he was out if money. He said that on an interview. So was all for money with him. Steve will always live in the hearts if so many people that Love him and only him. I Do. He'll be in my heart always. I keep up with his music don't care how old the songs he's so amazing. His voices touches me in way.no other musicians could. 42 yrs of my life I've been listening to him. That will never change. I couldn't go to the concert that was in Virginia last week. I couldn't do because Steve is the I want to see.
Alice Patton , I’ve read an article years ago that SP had the whole band waiting in limbo, the rest of the members went thru legal channels but he still kept them hanging. The band is their livelihood, they need to make money of course. NS cannot be blamed for looking for a replacement. The world has to move on. In fact without NS , Journey would have been just a thing of the past. NS kept Journey alive , well , thanks also to other members that stayed
Always great to hear SP , i dont actually think he realises how good JRNY were at their pomp... Never came to UK really at the time and that is always "unfinished business" ..will we ever see him do some solo shows? even i doubt it now....
When you have two super positive egos, they just repel each other. I don't see that changing, although, personally, I back Steve's version of what happened when he had the hip injury, and Journey giving him an ultimatum about his health. That was kind of messed up. They were wrong, and thought they would do fine without him. Wrong again.
Steve I know you probably won't see this comment but please come to Oahu in Honolulu I really want to see you sing anytime I won't die until 70 years sooooo..... Come ps your album for the love of strange medicine. Is awesome I'm only 11 but I still think music would not be the same without you
Ooo Ooo , he is protecting himself from embarrassment coz he can’t sing as good as when he was younger. Those high notes Journey songs? He won’t last the entire night.
I hope if true Journey as I call them with Steve Perry do get inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame that Steve Perry not only attends the ceremony but that he sings live with them. I'm sure that the main reason why they are currently #1 in the Fan Vote is because of Steve Perry being eligible. I doubt if only New Journey as I call them now with Arnel Pineda were eligible that they would be anywhere near that placing.
I wouldn't bet on that. Over 20 years later DLR went back to Van Halen when nobody really thought that would ever happen. The hostility between VH and Roth certainly topped Journey & Perry
tull1971 that's true and a great point. I personally think there's no way Perry sing those songs anymore without seriously pitching them down. Are they in the Hall of Fame? Did they re-unite?
Fred Garvin , there is great hesitation on Steve Perry’s part. It’s been so long since he went on grueling back to back concerts with Journey, he knows he can’t be like himself anymore when he was younger. He wants to keep the memory of SP when he really sounded like the real SP. I bet he sings differently now given those high notes Journey songs. He does not want his fans to find out he can’t sing as good as when he was younger. However , it is safer for him to sing other songs, specially new songs he composed because however he sounds now, there is no basis for comparison. If he sings Don’t Stop Believing, Faithfully, Open Arms, etc, fans can’t can’t help but compare his previous and present voice. He does not want to disappoint people or himself. That’s my honest opinion.
Missing Layne Journey was founded by Neal Schon; he's not going anywhere. Watch the old VH1 Behind the Music about Journey. It's a very interesting watch.
I liked how Steve tried to bite his tongue when asked about working with Neal again..What was it "he can only do so much"....really mean ? Was he just being nice ? Is there Still alot of hurt-etc, or can they make a try for 1 more final tour for all of us that loved them 20 yrs ago and still do today. Either way as Steve put it, they all brought out the best in each other. They still are my fav. No competition the original Journey can't be in any comparisons. That's all Steves voice....nobody can take that away. Waiting to hear his new music.
Mona Fey I think he lost his job. Neil must have total control over everything now without any lip from singers. I love Steve Perry, he was the original and one of my fav all time singers. I doubt that he can still sing that stuff like he used to
I cannot see that happening. What's more, I don't want to see that happening!! Journey may need Steve, but he does NOT need them!! Besides, Schon is an egotistical idiot. Why else would he go to so much trouble to find someone who sounds almost exactly like Perry? To keep the money rolling in, that's why. They will never fill arenas and stadiums like they did back in the day. Those days are gone. I know there are a lot of younger people out there now who are starting to get into Journey, but as a fan since 1979, (I am not a fan now, of course) I know there will be only one lead singer in that group for me, and it's Perry. It didn't work very well for Foreignor when Gramm left, and it didn't work very well for a few other bands that tried to replace the irreplaceable. You'd think he'd take a hint.
Whether or not Neal is an egotistical idiot or not is completely irrelevant. All you "Anti-Neal" RU-vid morons need a lesson music history. Without Neal Schon FROM DAY ONE, and his tasty and melodic guitar licks, there would be no "Journey" , with or WITHOUT Steve Perry.
I hope this don't bite Steve Perry in the butt for his comment about neal and him trying to get along. I would rather see Steve go solo but, I rather see the old Journey back together.
It would be amazing if Journey got back together even if it's for alittle while they r all getting older they may not want to tour like they use to Steve Perry great would really like to see or hear this hopefully
Have you seen the lines at Steve's neck when he is talking? the lines at left side is more than one than the other side lines? is it a possible signed from previous operation?
You know it’s inevitable it has to happen. the fans want it so badly and journey needs to mend their problems and unite for the love of the music for one last hurrah. It would be the biggest concert ticket draw on the planet especially if you can incorporate as many of the original members as humanly possible.
Steve Perry is not only the voice but whether or not he knows it he is an economist. He is working the supply side of economics. Limit the supply creates more of a demand until it is time to release the supply to a demand that has been growing for over 20 years. Well done. I hope to hear you soon. You are the Voice. But I have to say I really like Kenny Loggins a lot for giving us all some outstanding supply in the meantime.
When things did not work out for them to go on tour in support of their new album at the time, due to Steve's back, I also thought it was due to Steve not being able to devote time to a personal life and the band at the same time? So he chose to have a personal life instead! Journey then moved on and with Arnel Pineda at the helm, I think they will do well, but they would have done better with having both Steve's in the band as opposed to the two they have now. The two Steve's brought something to the band, that no one else could!
Hi Gas8666! In addition to the back problem, I think the band also kicked him out for not giving them a definite answer from the get go. They wanted to tour and promote the new album, but were waiting to hear from Steve. When they waited long enough (a year I believe), they fired him and did the tour. This is what I've heard and read, but they didn't meet up with Arnel until about 20 years after they fired Steve. They hired Steve Augeri, and toured with him at the helm until I believe '05/'06. When SA's voice gave out, they finished the tour with Jeff Scott Soto, who at the end of the tour was named the official lead. They then split ways before they could do an album due to "musical differences." Then Neal hit youtube and found this one guy named Jeremy Hunsicker and brought him in. They gave JH the job and he co-wrote two songs (I believe) and even recorded demos. When his wife got pregnant JH told the band thanks for the opportunity, but he had to be with his wife. So Neal then went back to youtube and found Arnel and now the rest is history. haha
Musicfan1020 Most of what you said is true, except the part about Steve being fired. If you watch the "Journey Behind the music" documentary, Steve clearly states that he left on his own free will. Here's what really happened, the other guys felt that their opportunity for a come back was slipping away because Steve had a bad hip and needed hip replacement surgery, Neal and Johnathan gave him an ultimatum, either undergo the surgery or another singer would take his place, Steve felt uncomfortable with this as he considered that weather he underwent surgery or not was his personal decision and not for his band mates to interfere. He left on his own freewill and also stated that he never "felt like he was part of the band". That's what happened. Also, They met Arnel in 2007 and Steve left the band 1998, that's about 9 years of difference just thought I'd point that out
ElhijueputtsPR94 Thank you very much for correcting me. I don't know what I was thinking when I wrote 20 years. haha And I have heard that side too. I currently have the unofficial biography that I'm reading and I haven't gotten to that part yet (I'm currently right around the Escape tour). I think this will provide a more unbiased view of the break-up. I know that both sides probably told their side and somewhere in the middle there is the truth. But Steve Perry has seemed to become a lot more humble in his later years and he even acknowledges the fact that the band was right to move on without him. I know people give him a lot of heat for saying he never felt like part of the band, but I think I knew what he meant when he said that. While yes, he controlled the band, he was never really a part of it. He wasn't the original guy and probably wasn't as close to the guys as they seemed to be with past members like Gregg Rollie. But that's my theory. But thank you for your corrections! It is greatly appreciated! :)
Steve would never go back to Journey. Especially when there inducted and to sing at the ceremony. Steve would never sing with Journey. You go back to 1998 when Steve Perry broke his hip. Was replaced. Was the same time I nearly died in the Hospital from Diabetes. found out Steve Perry was gone after I regained conches Maybe it was a Chain reaction. I neay died the same day Steve Perry got let go. Today. I do well. I have good memories of Journey as a teenager . And sang a lot of Journeys greatest hits with my friends cover band. Was fun I still love the old Journey. Better than the New Journey band. you know right away there is something missing with the new Journey. No Steve Perry And I walked out after the 1st song. And can remember Nael Schon watching me head for the exit at the Minnesota State fair when Journey came. I was looking forward to see Steve Perry 1 more time. Because of my Diabetes. I won't be around much longer. And stay in good spirits. sing Journey songs at karaoke every night..
You can listen to the Director's Cut Behind the Music and decide for yourself. There is no better information on the inner workings of Journey than this documentary. Go to 55:25 for an immediate answer to your question. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-kJivmiZIY6o.html
And yet, Neil Schon only needs a soul of the lead singer to the band as we have noticed, it is there already, its like Journey and Steve are inseparable but the thing is that is Steve is not there anymore, it is just his tribute to the band and Neil is capitalizing that and he will get the money he want.. Unlike when Steve is there. Even though he has the greater pie. Steve share would be at least the same at him. If its not too late, Steve as we all know was a stand alone lead singer. He can do it in any Band he wants. But he did not do it. he just stop singing.. Its because, he is still probably earning with the journey whenever they played his composed songs..
Will Steve Perry rejoin Journey? I do not want to comment. Left to go solo 1984. And left the second time. What reallt happened. Why did Steve leave the second time. Just knew it was rough times. And what dose everyone know. I just do not want to make comments to anger anyone. What really happened
Russell, no one knows what really happened with Steve other than he was dealing with some conflicting issues with the band. It's been said he never really felt like he was part of the band.He also had some health issues. Other than that, ya got me. Hope that helps!
Music biz is tough, non stop touring, and interviews, promoters wanting new material yesterday, plus poparazzi bothering you, people wanting autographs, no private life. Under that pressure sometimes tempers and personalities get in the way. That is the only thing you need to know
I wonder what’s the deal and what’s so tough between Schon and Perry they seem they just can’t get along and collaborate as they used to do. I get thst sense that Neil Schon wants all the credit but he forgot he’s not a singer he’s a guitarrist so of course Steve Perry will always get the most attention and applause. I think Schon is just another frustrated singer who wanted to be the front star of a band but he just doesn’t accept to be the guitar player which is pretty cool but maybe not enough for him.
So he's working with just who now, schon is one to work with, I'd work for schon, only request him auto graphed my strat. Lol. Volunteer services carrying schons equipment/strat to stage. I'd work entire tour, just for his auto graph. The guy is legacy material, also never left earth, only one to design/providence within live home studio, multitudes within videos, post virus arrival for his believers. Honered would most mentioning towards schon. Didn't realize what stood before him, which is a legacy, age 14, he was renowned like no other. I know one of most difficult aspects for schon, was to part ways with his guitar collection, even though he didn't state this, it must have been difficult to let go within his livlihood within sentemental memory's his strats left across stages. But good to see schon placing his patented screaming pauses, take-offs that are appolo schon.
