I don't understand why it's so hard for people to understand why he was burnt out? He is human. Thank goodness we were able to have him sing while we did and all the wonderful music they gave us. He gave us so much more.... Love Steve Perry
I agree but I believe there is more to the story than what we will ever know. I am not in his shoes but it seems like if you become that big in a band you would want to ride that train for as long as possible.
I'm not surprised he got burned out mentally. JOURNEY toured non-stop, sang the same songs over and over again, and they never had much rest until the next show. He is doing great returning writing and singing new music. I'm glad his heart is back to music even though many music artists at his age would retire.
Notice how Steve won’t even say the name of their former manager? I think the two had some bad blood. Herbie Herbert is the genius behind Journey, btw. However, I think he pushed Steve too hard and kept him singing too many live shows too often and it wrecked his voice.
Steve Perry was the nicest, most compassionate, most inciteful band member in Journey. He made that band what it became. The other band members knew that without his amazing voice, they were done. He has such a soft side and that comes out so strong when he talks about his mother and relationships. When anyone mentions the band Journey, we know these guys were great insturmentalists but Steve Perry's voice was the greatest insturment that put that band on the road to success. Good on you Steve for being who you are and staying true to yourself.
Besides the voice he has an incredible ability to make great music. I was not a Journey fan when they were together and popular. I did like their music, but I did not go to their concerts. Now, after all these years, it is obvious they were one of the greatest bands to have ever existed. Steve Perry is Journey without Neil Schon on guitar. But Neil does not have the ability to come up with great guitar without Steve Perry stocking the fire.
True but Journey did good before him and they are now selling out stadiums with out him. But the new huge lawsuit between Steve and Neil will go on for a while over the trademarks of Journey.
@@jimcrain2647 Journey was going to be dropped by CBS right before Steve Perry joined the band. If Steve Perry had never joined Journey we would not be talking because Journey the band would not exist.
@@ts31966 yea, but it was the mix of them, Steve P, Steve S, Gregg, Neal, Ross, then Jon. Arnel is a great singer and journey lives on through his voice. it all works....
@@stephaniemathews9156 as I stated previously there would be no Journey if Perry had never joined the band. All the band members were there but they could not produce a hit. Add Perry, instant hits. Add Arnel, no hits. Arnel was a great replacement singer before Neil Schon ruined his voice. Schon has ruined the voices of 4 singers. Schon does not care about the singer. He cares about his bank account.
@@steveperry2823 Steve Perry you are a shooting star. With a Eternal flame that will burn forever in my heart. I love who you are and everything that you have done. I think that you are so amazing. If l were to ever meet you l know l would be speechless. I have loved you and your music forever . From Cleveland Ohio 2022 Steve Perry always and Forever 💞💞.
Happy New Year 💕💕💕💕💕 Thanks for your love and support towards me I really appreciate you and can’t thank you enough. Write me with the address above to be among the lucky few who stand a chance for a meet and greet when I am in your city or city nearby..
His little bit of imitation singing at 21 mins actually gave me the chills and made me tear up, I’m ngl. this was a while ago, but Jesus Christ. He’s still “The Voice” and always will be 💞
Hello Hale, how're you doing? Your comments caught my attention and that is why I am reaching out to you. Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you! It's nice meeting you here.
I watched the big interview, you said you didn't want to read what the critics wrote. You got your affirmation from the fans and their appreciation. I hope that you read some of the comments people post, and it touches your heart. You are a real treasure.
A truly wonderful voice from a truly wonderful era. Music was so sincere, lyrics coming from the heart, sung by a wonderful, humble gentleman. Thank you Steve. ♥️♥️♥️
Unless you come close to burn-out, or have burned out, you have no idea, just how long it takes to recover. Ten years later, I'm still recovering from burn-out, so I completely understand Steve's long hiatus from the very industry that burned him out. He made the right decision for his own health.
He's such a genuine, sincere, and beautifully intense man. I'm glad he chose the route he took as a musician and a man. You have to respect him for doing so. His loss of love was a inspiration to love music again. It's a amazing story. Happy he's returned!
People love you, Steve, not only because of your great music and iconic voice but because of your beautiful heart! So happy you found your passion for music again! You sound wonderful!
Beyond thrilled about this ... every time I play music, I think of this man's vibrato. He is an encyclopedia of Baroque vibrato techniques. A miracle voice, truly.
Thank You Steve for Returning to us with your music. Thank You Dr. Kellie Nash for loving Steve and inspiring him to return. The world is thrilled !!! You are so very loved Steve Perry !!!
Steve is a class act. Such an amazing Man! I love him so much and have so much respect for him. He always stayed true to himself. He was burnt-out, and he deserved time off to take care of himself and have a normal life. He went through a lot. He lost his Mom, had hip surgery, his girlfriend, Kelly passed away, among other heartbreaks--not to mention what he went through with Journey. It was so beautiful what he said about Kelly--he was so in love with her! He started to lose his voice due to the long tours. It takes a lot out of you. As a singer myself, I can totally relate to what Steve is saying, because often times, the lead singer does not get as much respect as the other musicians in the band, which I think is so unfair because the lead singer has a lot of pressure put on them, and singing Steve Perry/Journey songs is not an easy job. It's hard work! Steve deserved a break from music. Just because someone is talented, rich and famous, does not exclude them from every day problems and loss of loved ones. We are only human, and we can only take-on so much. If you don't take care of yourself, you will be no good to anyone else! I have to say, he looks amazing!! Such an inspiring man, not only for his incredible music and singing, but because he is so real and down-to-earth. I will love this Man forever!
Whenever I hear that song, "Be Good to Yourself" to me, it was Steve telling us, he needs to stop doing what he was doing and take care of himself. It was a warning. He did what he needed to do to survive.
ToonieMama. Well said! I agree 100 per cent with you. I wish Steve well with this comeback, he was so missed. It was good to see him again and it was a great interview. I wish you well also ToonieMama with your singing career.
And grow some of his hair back! He is one of many musicians that cut all his hair off and looks funny. It doesn't fit him. Like if Ozzy cut all his hair off! Uhhhh. I'm 52 and had shoulder length hair since i was 15, played drums for almost 30 years. .
A quick prayer. Lord please give us some more Steve Perry’s. We need more incredible voices like him, and the music that he creates. Welcome back to a world starving of good music!
Good prayer but he's truly one of a kind, I'm just thankful I got to see him 3 times with Journey: he sang supernaturally - even better live than on the albums!
Can't believe Steve is almost 70. I always thought he and Journey were one generation younger than The Beatles and the Stones, but he's not too far behind. God bless him. The greatest voice in rock history. Hands down!
I was just mesmerized listening to Steve. He is so passionate, so honest, and just an overall kind soul that he didn't need to explain why he left. He is entitled to his life as he wanted to live it - we all are. He deserved a break - but thank God he found it in his heart through Kellie to return to songwriting and singing again. Thank you, Steve, just for YOU!
There are so many wonderful incredible singers through out history - But 1980 to 1987 This man probably the greatest single voice to ever sing a song. Range, Pitch, Phrasing, and most of all Emotivness, which is what he still has even after the high-notes may be gone, the emotiveness is just one of a kind. And he is a dam good song writer and one hell of a class act as a human...Listen to mother father live - The end notes on why can't this night go on forever - The chorus on Happy Give....Defies logic back then...Happy he is back and as he stated not putting pressure on himself knowing he is just south of 70...God bless him and keep him healthy.
When I’m at work and Faithfully comes on, all 8 of my co-workers and I stop what we’re doing and just sit back and listen to that amazing song and vocal. Then get back at it afterwards. Probably in the top 5 best songs ever Made
After listening to Steve Perry's interview on Q104.3 via youtube tonight, I must say he surprised me. In my mind I imagined him as being very uppity and "hey, I'm a superstar" because he was a member of one of THE most successful bands "Journey" and a brilliant solo career of all time with an iconic voice.... but I just sat here in my home with my mouth opened. Stunned! What a humble, gentle, wise and sensitive man he is and I'm so ashamed for thinking the way I did and I offer my sincere apologies. Steve Perry gently put me in my place tonight.... I now have a new "wonderful" opinion and respect for him.. Welcome back to the world of music Steve Perry.... ❤
Hello Angela, how're you doing? Your comments caught my attention and that is why I am reaching out to you. Your fan love for me warms my heart, Thank you! It's nice meeting you here.
Steve! Such a beautiful soul! To put himself first and realizing he was not happy...then the strength to leave...for "himself" to save himself. He is truely a beautiful person!!!
I am so happy I ran across this today. Coincidentally, my sisters and I were texting about Steve just yesterday. We had been talking about iconic singers and we agreed that Steve was one of the best, his voice was phenomenal, and it could NOT be copied by anyone. Listening to him touched my soul. I believe I have every record on vinyl!! Anyway, that conversation led to me finding Journey’s greatest hits album on YT, and we each in our own homes immediately listened to it. It was the most joyful, most freeing hour and a half I’d spent in 3+ years. Thank you, Steve, for the incredible music. It brought me joy when it came out and it brings me joy now. Thank you for this incredible interview. I truly enjoyed it. ❤️
Not only is his voice one-of-a-kind, his songwriting talent is a gift. He cowrote Foolish Heart which is one of my all-time favorite songs. I wish Steve Perry much happiness in his life.
This is the only Steve Perry interview I watched in its entirety- I tend to have a short attention span but I remained listening to every word - fantastic!
I had a hard time because it's like staring at the sun for me :) I was crazy about him.from Day 1 and MORE SO after meeting him a few times in 94 and 95.
What an excellent interview!! I laughed, I cried, I held my breath before an answer . . . . You are truly blessed Steve Perry. We loved you in the past, we love you now, we will love you in the future! Praying the very best over you! Thank you for finding your passion and hearts love again!!
I can't tell you how EXCITED I am to know I've lived long enough to be around to hear Steve is BACK! I've loved him from 1980 till now. He's such a total class act!! Love, love love him!! Can't wait to buy the album and the CD. He's just💞💞💞
I ordered signed copies of the CD and the vinyl. Will be at Target on October 5 for a copy of the CD for my car. Welcome back, Steve! You were SO missed!
I absolutely ADORE this man! It's been 40 years now! I ordered the new CD, of course, and I can't wait!! He looks stunning, he sounds stunning, (just talking!) and I'm just crazy about him! Even after all these years!
Steve is a. Ledgen d. I got it 😁👍. Neil should be guitar hall of fame r. I saw him in Santana Neil blew my mind iwas fifteen playing in Derick dorgess and Bruce silver s three peice band Robbie frossie hot and smoke ing drummer journey I. Love them when Steve came along shit inspiration hit hard bassist in many band's I filled in for big name's I loved it I thought I was cool but when Derick dorge came along no money was made but musical and original 😂😍😍 your life and this. Sound Steve Perry got a tape we did live in Sacramento at sum hall citykid now Tesla uused to play these 0e ☮️ man
really asshole....hmmm maybe if more artists took a page form his playbook got out, got their head on straight and lived their life without the pressure of being in the music business they would still be alive today - Prince, Tom Petty, Michael Jackson, Whitney just to name some of the most recent ones that died too soon because of drugs/alcohol. But then you have the self entitled assholes who think these people owe them something and how dare they leave the band... right?!?
Love this man! So bittersweet that he lost his first love (music), then found the true love of his life and then losing her equipped him to return to his calling.💔
For steve to be a total recluse for 24 years.. he is being so honest in his interviews... letting us all in on his mind frame ... really get to see inside his head a little bit and where his song writing comes from.. awesome interview..
I did a bunch of videos with Journey (and 3 from Steve's solo album "Street Talk") and the first time I met Steve I told him how much his style reminded me of Sam Cooke. He said "You know that, I know that, THEY don't know that. Let's keep it that way." He's an amazing guy, I am privileged to know him and to have worked with him.
I was the producer and writer of Oh Sherrie, Strung Out and Foolish Heart. The Journey videos were all performance ones - Loving Touch Squeezing, Lights etc...
I HAVE ENJOYED ALL OF YOUR VIDEOS I HAVE WATCHED TONIGHT! I LOVED ARETHA FRANKLIN ALSO! MY FAVORITE SONG OF HERS WAS I THINK THE NAME OF IT WAS IF ANYONE WTITES MY LIFE STORY. I'M GOING TO PULL HER MUSIC UP TO FIND THAT SONG SINCE ITS BEEN LONG TIME I HEARD HER MUSIC. YOU ARE SO MUCH FUN TO WATCH & LISTEN TO THAT MAKES ME FORGET OF BEING LONELY. BEEN LISTENING TO RADIO 97.8 THE BOBBY BONES STATION LATELY & THEY PLAY LOTS OF NEW MUSIC. IF YOU DONT LISTEN TO IT THEN I THINK YOU WOULD ENJOY IT ALSO. KINDA LATE SO I'LL SAY BYE FOR NOW. LOVE YOU STEVIE, KGM
I'm struggling with everyone saying they don't understand how he could lose his passion for music. The man is human and to have the strength of character to realize your personal life is no longer one you recognize as the person you've always known and that to get it back you have to slam the door shut. Remember the song he wrote about a friend in trouble , telling him he needed to leave this town before it's "TO LATE" . Imagine....a person who can actually take his own advice ! LOL, rare. Love is something you give from deep inside and when people start reaching in and taking it, telling you when, where, to whom, how much and how often you have to give it, it starts to wither. Steve had suffered some very close personal losses, I know many people do but during that time he also had the music machine reaching in demanding everything he had left. I am actually more impressed that he had the strength of will to walk away from it all than I would have been if he had tried to fight it out and stay. It shows what he valued most, not the money, not the fame, his soul. Being able to sit all by himself and be content with the sun shining on his face or jumping on his bike and feeling the wind caress his face. Living that life prepared him for meeting Dr. Kellie Nash and I'm sure he's happy he was himself again when that happened. Well done Mr. Perry.
I have to say of all the recent interviews I’ve seen with Steve Perry, this is my favourite! Thank you so much. It was touching, revealing, sweet, and different than all the rest!! Bravo to you!! And so much love to Steve for his honesty. I’m over the moon that the long wait is over and that he has blessed us with his new music. Can’t wait for the full album Stevie! 💙🎤
Thanks so much for the morale push, you have been picked for a chat with me, This is my way of showing you all that you are not forgotten, your activity and you can get in touch with me on myEmail or my via google hangout (Perrysteve695@gmail.com)....
Welcome back Steve👍❤❤❤❤❤😁😁😁 you have been very missed and always loved , cant wait to hear all your new songs. you could sing Mary had a little lamb and I'd love it❤❤❤👍👍👍😁😁😁🤗🤗🤗🤗
I agree. At times I thought to myself "I probably will never get to hear new music from Steve." I was okay with that in a way, he gave us so much, we shouldn't expect more from him. But he gave.
"There wasn't a day that went by (in 25 years) that a Steve Perry song wasn't played on the radio." Amazing quote! I mean think about that for a minute people. Honestly, there are a select few this could happen too, especially when you think they're never coming back. Blows my mind. So doggone refreshing to hear his candid remarks. I never write comments, I mean never. Steve, man, you inspire me bro. ✌🏻🍻
This is the fake Steve Perry. Please "Out" this impersonator on interviews and such. Get the real SP who signed with "Journey" back. Check with the Record Companies. Don't buy "Traces, of the real Steve Perry" record and don't support "the FAKE" on tour either.
Den Boe Are you rightly angry? If you were gone for 25 years, dealt with personal issues that the public know nothing about, lose the love of your life to death and promise her you'd come back to your talent, trust me bro, I wouldn't be mad at you. I would support you. Just view Steve as a human being man. Sure "Journey isn't Journey". I've come to grips with that - I think all Journey fans have. Just celebrate the rebirth of this talented old soul. 😁
To be honest the main reason I am glad he is back, is because Perry's voice makes me very happy. I literally feel no pain, no depression, I just feel good. Perry could sing rap, country, punk, Tuvan throat singing exercises. Hell, the man can gargle a book on psychological disorders, I will listen. So, that's my story. Sorry he lost love, I am sure he will find it again. Keep moving forward, Perry! Cheers!👏🏽 PS- Great interview!!!!!
Tuvan throat singing exercises. LMAO And yes I totally agree with everything you said... As far as him finding ❤️ I believe there are millions of women who would gladly help him there, including me!
This is a great interview! Very touching in parts. Thank you for uploading it. So good to have Steve Perry back! I love the new 'single'. Can't wait to hear the whole album.
Steve is such a HUGE part of most of us growing up in the Era of passionate lyrics and an incredible voice that could lay down such heart provoking change. Heart is your drive and an amazing talent to deliver.
Please "Out" this impersonator on interviews and such. He is hijacking Steve Perry's career. Get the real SP who signed with "Journey" back. Check with the Record Companies. Don't buy "Traces, of the real Steve Perry" record and don't support "the FAKE" on tour either.
