Oh no. Steve definitely didn't understand her. But as a comedian he did a great job of rolling with it and playing it off.

Emocaide, it didn't sound anything like "he ate spaghetti on Monday". It wasn't an honest mistake...he just pretended not to hear her well. If he didn't hear her well, he could've asked her to repeat. And on whether or not he can hold or fake laughters...if there's anyone who can do that best, it's Steve Harvey. He's a comedian and an actor. He does that almost every episode...pretending to be serious just to crack a joke

As a person learning a second language I can tell you if a person has not been exposed to a lot of accents and has only heard their language spoken to sound one way, this can happen. It takes a lot for them to hear it and understand. I am one of those people. I can speak my second language, in the small town in a South American country and the people that have traveled understand me perfectly. But the people who are poorer and have never been anywhere but here can not understand me. And the accent is not that heavy. It happens all the time. This was just recently explained to me by a language teacher and it made perfect sense. I do not understand all British people. Some regions have thicker accents. I also don't understand most Irish or Scottish either. But Africans and people from certain regions of India, no problem. So, he just isn't getting it. But I think he's very funny here and I'm sure is playing up as funny so he feels better about it.
