Steve Wright did a breakfast show on BBC Radio 1 in 1994 which featured a daily recurring character called The Newsagent. This is a collection of his daily appearances...
Coelcludd. I cannot thank you enough for this post. The Newsagent was my beloved Father in Law who passed away yesterday. The family were trying to find some of his work from the Steve Wright show and this hour and 7 minutes has had us in tears. Thank you for uploading it so we can hear our Pa’s voice again. X
Hi Gillian, I just wanted to offer my condolences on the loss of your father-in-law. I remember in 1993 (I think), this quirky character who appeared every morning on Steve Right in the morning. He would come in, give funny jokes and observations, fart a lot and be off for another day. I was always recording stuff at the time and made compilation tapes of his appearances. In the end, the character didn’t appear anymore, but I always remembered Steve Wright thanking the person who did the segment character on his last show in 1995. It really makes me feel good to know that my recordings have helped your family during your difficult time. Best wishes to you all. Mike.
So sorry to hear that he's no longer with us. He made me roar with laughter in the car on the way to work in the morning. Is it true that when your mum-in-law asked him for something with diamonds for her birthday, he bought her a pack of cards?!
Thanks so much for putting this here! He was my pops, and sadly passed away yesterday. You have no idea how much I’ve enjoyed listening to him today. Cheers.
I m so grateful that you ve posted this. It s a joy listening again to the dearly missed broadcaster of all times. You are a legend Steve Wright. No one can take away your place. Afternoon s radio programs are a total snooze festival without you. 😢Scott Mill could easily consider himself leaving as soon as possible...
RIP Steve - you brought me up to a degree and taught me my moral compass alongside my parents and taught me the meaning of humour. I am sorry the BBC cancelled your style of humour. That will never be able to cancel you out, however. You were a true brit and a gent. A true loss.
Thank you for uploading this when radio was worth listening to i use to tape the newsagent on cassette but lost it over the year .such a talented funny guy so sorry he passed 😢
A few weeks ago someone put a photo of him on facebook twice. They wrote something about him and saying he should be sacked. I don`t know why, I did`nt read anymore of it. It will have been some idiots messing about.
It was sad to hear that the man who played the Newsagent character has passed. Was he an actor or comedian? If so I would be very interested to hear more of his stuff. Very funny man
@@coecludd Do you know what his real name was ? Thanks again for posting his best clips. It'll be the end of era when Steve Wright in the afternoon stops at the end of September. What a DJ. It would be great if he did a tribute to all his characters over the years with a compilation of their best bits before he finishes. I also loved Sid the manager.. Barry from Watford and Ask Elvis.. very funny 😂
@@Kenny-67 I remember when Steve Wright left the morning slot ( I think either Kevin Greening with Zoe Ball took over or Chris Evans?) - anyway, Steve Wright thanked everybody on the last show and said the name of The Newsagent voice presenter. Unfortunately, I no longer have that tape! 📼. A real shame as he should be remembered. 😕
