In this instalment of ‘Lin Mei Talks’ Lin Mei sits down with multifaceted, multimillionaire, Steven Bartlett to continue to help prove sports, music and the entertainment industry in general are not the only options we have to make it out of the hood or be successful. This brand new series will see Lin shine a light on successful people who come from humble beginnings but found their success outside of the entertainment industry.
This interview sees Steven Bartlett debunk the misconceptions of more money equating to abundant happiness and outlines some of the struggles he faced on his come up, including homelessness and steeling pizzas and uneaten food at chicken shops before he began building his empire.
Steven Bartlett’s story is definitely one of trials and tribulations with a lot of ups and downs with an inspirational success story of perseverance, at the tale end, though his story is far from finished as the serial entrepreneur is still only 29 years of age with a wealth of experiences and knowledge to share due to his ability to adapt to the social media era and put his ego aside to employ people he believed were better than he was at what he did.
As advertised towards the end of the episode, Steven is offering a mentorship opportunity, allowing an applicant to shadow him to gain an insight into what he does on a daily basis. To apply for this opportunity, write a couple of paragraphs explaining why and how you think this opportunity could benefit you, and submit it to Lin at info@linmeitalks.com

Hope this doesn’t come across negatively and completely understand the point regarding money and happiness. But, don’t you think it’s more related to the values that person has and not necessarily the size of their net worth. I take the point with the guy and the Louis Vuitton room, you said he was not happy and you know people with less money who are happier, but maybe it’s his values and personal life which are not aligned and not necessarily how much he is worth. Or, the guy who is pissed off that his 3 Michelin star steak was short of secret dust (😂), but maybe his values are off. My point being is, I hear a lot of successful people speak about money doesn’t not give you happiness, but maybe its more that they’re not necessarily holding the right values and things are not good personally which money can’t buy that are off. I am sure there is a lot of very successful people who are also very happy (most of the time), but we all have our down days. Anyway, love your content always Steve and will let you know in a couple more years if you can be very wealthy and also very happy (I think I’ll be good 😂)!

This is actually the best thing I could've hoped to watch to kick off 2022. As a struggling CEO I realise my role and its funny because I have always just been the glue. I've never been the one that executes everything but I am a great visionary, dreamer and believer. I spend most of my time in my own dream world imagining possibilities and I care deeply aboit people. Thankyou for this...this gave me such clarity!
@Chantellle_M
@Chantellle_M 2 года назад
This literally sounds just like me. I find it very interesting because I've never heard or read anyone describe the type of role that I so happed to play in people's lives. Very interesting! Just out of curiosity, what conclusion did you come to cuz I'm an aspiring business woman of colour but I'm very similar to you in that way that you have just mentioned? Would be great to hear your feedback when you possibly get a chance?
@luckyskitchen101
@luckyskitchen101 2 года назад
@@Chantellle_M So I guess to summarise because this could be a lengthy answer, as its such a deep topic. But my main takeaway was to be myself. Just be myself and do the best I can. Drop the mask, the act and pretence. Let go of the fear and jealousy not matter how great or small. I actually could say so much. But recently myself and my business partner have been clashing. It's been somewhat of a stressful year and a lot of money has been spent and a lot of painful/costly harsh lessons have been endured. A lot of sacrifices including time away from family to name but a few. He is skilled in ways that I am not and ways that I want to be and vica versa. Only thing is I fel like I wasnt getting my due recognition. The ultimate truth was that I wasn't putting enough work in ("doing my best every day and not worrying about anything else"). I was to fixated on gaining recognition and adoration from my peers. That I almost pushed away the very peers trying to help me succeed. The craziest thing is that at my core all I want is me and my people's to succeed...massively. So after watching this I was truly humbled. The penny dropped and I've been on a focused rampage. Empowering everyone around me as much as possible and humbly learning from those that know more than me. There's almost no faster way to succeed I think, than working alongside people who have strengths in areas you lack. The results are speaking for themselves in the campaigns we're running. It's challenging but I feel totally different now day to day. It's like motivation and willpower are not needed. Because I have team members to call on so I feel like I have to plough through my work because the support they're showing me. My focus now is to build the most amazing team, learn and grow and work as hard as I can daily. Hope that's of some use to you...please also share your takeaways too. Cheers

@@luckyskitchen101 Hi, @Adebayo. Love and appreciate everything you have said in response to Kayla's question. I'm in the process of using this year to get a business plan/vision that's literally been riding me for years off the ground. I can't write too much on here and I'm not even sure if you can respond to my next question on here. But I'd love to connect with you. That key point you touched on relating to your team. I want & will need that formula. How do I chose the right people who have the same mindset/drive/passion/interest as me. To make sure that we don't mess this up. We'll be working with young people,so it needs to be right. "T's"crossed and "I's" dotted, I appreciate that it won't be perfect. But because of the people we will be work with, I don't want to have on board team members (staff) who are just working for the sake of having a job. How do you establish that, during the interview stage or as early as possible? Are you at all on LinkedIn?

I liked how Lin Mei said 'I'm not a fan of anyone but I do admire people.' The idea of being a fan of a fellow human being never sat well with me. But of course it's good to take inspiration from people to enhance aspects of your life.
@noahfletcher3019
@noahfletcher3019 2 года назад
It's just semantics. One could argue that being a fan and admirer are no different in any meaningful way.
@treetop711
@treetop711 2 года назад
@@noahfletcher3019 indeed the two could be used interchangeably. However in this context both words are being used as the speaker wants to relay two different and specific meanings. Therefore the argument of semantics would not be applicable.

Brilliant 🤩 interview again 👏🏾 The successful types of people I watch being interviewed.. have mastered the art 🖼 of disconnecting themselves from the real world 🌎 and create their own world 🌍 They all have the same thing in common… making money 💴 but not just that … it just keeps flowing in .. it’s more addictive making it than having it .. if anyone can comprehend what am saying 🤔 I may be way off but that’s my thought 💭
