That one v Newcastle where the keeper came out and he let the ball run. Now that is an incredible football brain. You don’t see goals like that too often.
I've been a Liverpool supporter for 54 years, I loved watching Gerrard play, but now lost all respect for the man who earns a living where he does now.
The chemistry between the duo is just one of its kind. Absolutely world-class. The way they complement each other is like yin and yang, light and shadow.
Fernando Torres at LFC was one of the best finishers, if not the best, in Premier League history. But his link up with Gerrard and the confidence his captain gave him was the reason he was regarded as the best striker in the world in the years he spent at Anfield. The moment he left LFC, Torres lost all his confidence and no one else in his career could lift him up and help him regain his composure in front of goal like Steven Gerrard did.
Perfect comment. 💥 Im not even a "liver" supporter, but i have always regarded gerrard and torres as the best team duo link- up to date. Some of Gerrards' assist passes to el nino are something else. But that little bk flick torres does to gerrard (3:18) 💫, and the torres outside of the foot pass to gerrard (2:47), ...... Well ..... The footage says it all
If memory serves, left back and left winger were an issue for a long time. Aurelio was good but injured too much. We probably knee jerk sold Riise too early after he made a mistake in the CL semi final to Chelsea. Riera was quite good but never a top player. Jose Enrique was pretty good. That said.. I've always thought the season they came close to winning the PL only to lose it to Man U, the biggest factor was letting Crouch leave. Liverpool needed that quality plan B and back up for when Torres was injured.
@Bleech606 outrageous letting Risse go. He was quality, absolutely gutted when he left. What a thunderbolt of a left peg and great crosser of the ball.
@@akshay_9146 That was bizarre. It was a strange time. Through the decisions of the awful board at the time, Rafa got sheltered from many of the bad decisions he made. He wanted Alonso out, and Barry in and ended up getting that Italian who was always injured and was a CAM. Alonso made the team tick, and no-one (other than Gerrard) was near his passing ability (esp Barry). He purchased Keane, then saw Gerrard could play better in the SS/CAM role, but failed to realise that if Torres/ Gerrard got injured then we only had Kuyt upfront. When Alonso left, Gerrard had to stay in the SS role as we had no one else up front, but only had Mas and Lucas in midfield. The decision to buy Glen Johnston and sell Arbeloa was also stupid. I would've had Glen in RM, but not as RB.
@@Bleech606wingers and attackers in general were a big problem for Benitez. He just wasn’t good with them. Torres obviously worked but he came in as the finished article. When it came to guys like Ryan Babel, Marc Gonzalez, Jermaine Pennant and David Ngog. They were all young guys with a bit of buzz that massively regressed under Rafa. And guys like Riera, Voronin, Benayun, Maxi Rodriguez etc just weren’t good enough compared to our rivals. If we had two top class wingers to play with Mascherano, Alonso, Gerrard and Torres then we’d have hoovered up trophies. Torres’ only made 20 league appearances once in a Liverpool shirt and Ngog and Vorinin were his backup in those injury years. It was a joke how weak we were at the top of the pitch after Torres.
I remember being in the Kop for that first goal and thinking Torres first touch was so heavy, before he destroyed Ben Tel Haim for pace. That’s when I knew he was something special.
It’s such a pity that Torres left - he was never going to be able to replicate the almost telepathic relationship that he had with Gerrard & you could see his confidence ebb away once he left Liverpool.
they just needed a third star in the attack to finish the jigsaw. as we later saw in the decade just after torres left,, the three forward attacks won everything - Messi Suarez, Neymar for Barca, BBC for Madrid and finally Liverpool with firmino, Mane and Salah ❤
why suddenly all lfc fans who burned the no.9 jersey are suddenly treating torres as hero . How he left us especially on the last day , when he saw we bought someone like luis suarez , simply selfish move by him and he erased everything good he did for lfc . cerain moves do hurt , suarez moved to fcb , we were fine coz he gave his all , alosno mascherhano left but we know the situation, coutinho was a sour one too
i was disappointed, but i never really hated fernando.. fernando moved to chelsea at that time because he wanted to win a cup and at that time he was already 27 years old (but had not won a cup).. liverpool at that time was rebuilding, and unable to fulfill Fernando's desire to win the cup in the near future..
They would have in 2009/10 but Manc fan Howard Webb BOTTLED it at Old Trafford v Spurs when he gave Utd a PATHETIC PEN, which he later ADMITTED HE BOTTLED IT COZ FERGIE WAS WATCHING.
With Torres, LP won NOTHING! Then he dumped LP and moved to Chelsea! LP fans support him because of his skin colour and looks. Others who did similar are vilified! Racism!
