Star Trek: The Motion Picture theme (which was later repurposed for Star Trek: The Next Generation) is near the top of my list of favorites

Conti, Goldsmith, Silvestry, Elfman, Williams, Zimmer, Morricone, (Howard)Shore, (James)Howard, Bernstein and Mancini and on and on. Bill used to conduct the Academy Awards every year. 'Course, the actual musicians were located a few blocks away using cameras to let Conti conduct remotely.

Well actually the Friday the 13th theme is more of a ripoff to psycho’s theme

He had a lot of obvious influences.

Ah, but Psycho is just a variation of 'Night on Bald Mountain'; which, in turn, was inspired by older Russian Operas; who were, of course, simply imitating works performed by the earliest formal composers of music; and those individuals were naturally just doing a mimicry of traditional folk music; which was merely a blatant rip-off of ancient tribal performances.... I'm fascinated by this fixation people have with "Originality". Pretty much every sound, musical verbal, and otherwise, is just a remix of sounds that have existed since the dawn of time. It's really, really rare (and possibly impossible) for anything truly, genuinely unique to ever be created by humans. The real question is whether or not one is able to take something old and put an interesting new spin on it. And I think Mr. John Williams more than succeeds in that department.

​​@@sharkrancher282 There's a limit between taking inspiration from and stealing. It's not an obsession of any kind with originality, the ancient greeks already knew that nothing comes from nothing. It's about recognizing the work of people and their efforts. If you're unable to understand it, better shut up. I already said that the Jaws theme is quite effective and Williams a good musician. But he's overrated as hell by people that doesn't watch classic cinema. Yes, Bernard Herrmann took his inspiration for Psycho, but he was never so close to thieving
