My roommate talked me into paying $14 to see SRV in 1984. We arrived early and stood in the very front. He opened with this and blew me away for the next 34 years.
I paid $90 to see Prince in about 2003 'musicology' tour. No regrets he brought the friggin house DOWN. Played a medley of his hits. I brought a lefty with me, and FORGOT to burn it. Transfixed. Props to his band they were right with him.
The way he carried himself was like no other guitar player. And in his interviews he’s just such a humble man who just loves his home state of Texas , bbq and guitar.
@@maxbrief8341 spoken like someone who has never tried to play any of his music. He was actually insanely precise with his picking and muting. It's one of the many things that make it so difficult to replicate his playing.
This, to me, epitomizes the strength of RU-vid. I'd heard of Stevie Ray Vaughan but never checked him out. Sadly, SRV is no longer with us, but RU-vid introduces his brilliant music to a whole legion of new fans. Long live Stevie Ray Vaughan.
@@billydee3157 And I think what made him so much greater than many others is his utter humbleness! He had his demons for sure. But he was dealing with them and came out on top. And he NEVER let his fans down through it all! (even though he worried how his music would be playing sober)
Don't worry, some greedhead will soon claim copyright to this video. it's been in for long enough. The peasants have enjoyed it for long enough for free. Whomever filmed this now deserves money. Your money.
The whole band, Tommy and Chris too. It's like when you have one member who is so great no one remembers the others, even if they are also great in their own right. You say Cream and everyone's first thought is Eric Clapton, but Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker were also amazing.
Talkin Bout Nawlins I've seen Reese with bonamassa twice now, and the man is still as good as he was. Absolutely kills it. One of the best I've ever seen
Bc they probably play the guitar but after watching this they concluded that they will never be able to do something like this. Jellaous facqerssss....
And don't concern yourself with like the people that can't wrap their heads around things not yourself of course but all the other lugens and freaking markson freaking jerks in the world
This may be the best version of "Couldn't Stand the Weather". Reese's piano solo has a really cool jazzy sound to it and Stevie's guitar solo following it is just mind blowing. Thanks for the upload!
I believe I can fly I believe I can touch the sky I think about it every night and day Spread my wings and fly away I believe I can soar I see me running through that open door I believe I can fly I believe I can fly I believe I can fly hoo
We can say that about all the great artists/inventors/etc, that we have lost Mrs Squirrel, but I agree some of our great artists died far too young, , taking their talent with them!
Nuttygirl : That’s really all I ever said... I am so sad that he was taken from us too soon! Plus, I remember he said, ‘I feel so good now!’, and that makes me more sad! #SRV deserved #Children and #Everything he Cared About: ❤️✊🏾🌍✌🏾
Stevie Ray was the Hendrix of my generation got to see him in 85 do 1 show he was like watching a comet that comes around every thousand years always said I would see him again never did . I cried like a baby the day he died like losing my own brother R I P SRV you are loved forever
You know, people, you never see any thumbs down concerning Stevie's performances. The reason is simple. He's the greatest guitar player in history! From up above, he's watching over us.
Still get completely blown away when I watch these SRV videos especially this clip. Saw SRV in 1989 and still remember it like it was yesterday. Jeff Beck played after SRV and I left after his second song. No one should have ever had to perform after Stevie. Once you're in SRV world you never want to leave.
He really was a true guitar master; the absolute control of that fretting hand, muting whatever string/strings he wanted at any time, which allowed him to dig in hard to every strum with his picking hand and get extra sound, the subtle quick switches on the knobs and pickup switch that are constantly happening so the tone and sound would shift and change during each song, and that passion and intensity, never a second of less then 100%. Absolutely the best!! RIP Stevie, as always a true inspiration!
Ian Mastrangelo LAUGHING OUT LOUD..ARE YOU REMOTELY SERIOUS ? SO MANY BETTER GIUTAT PLAYERS!!! SAD TO SAY BUT IF STEVIE HADNT OF GOT KILLED HE WOULDNT EVENT BE RELEVANT OR HEARD OF TODAY..JUST THE EVER SMALLEST FOOTNOTE IN MUSIC HISTORY. STEVIE WASN'T ORIGINAL DIDNT WRITE ANY GREAT SONG OR MUSIC... NO INNOVATION WHATSOEVER. FUTHERMORE NOT THAT GOOD OF GUITAR PLAYER RATED AMONG OTHER GUITAR PLAYERS. LOOK ON RU-vid.. THEIR ARE NON FAMOUS PEOPLE OF ALL AGES MAKE HIM LOOK AMATEUR... MTV MUSIC VIDEOS IS WHAT REALLY LAUNCHED HIS POPULARITY. IF HE WAS STILL LIVING HE WOULD BE PLAYING COUNTY/STATE FAIRS .THEIRS JUST SO MUCH MORE BETTER BLUES PLAUERS THAN WASTING YOUR TIME LISTENING A WANNABE BLUES GUY..MICK TAYLOR WIPE UP THE FLOOR WITH SRV.
@@ethanolhaines4139 check out all his live performances after he stopped doing coke he sweats the normal not like everyone else does ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-MiaG2LRtzJg.html
Thank whomever made seeing this possible, 35 years later. They say true art can make you weep upon viewing it. My eyes stream as I witness this excellence.
I have listened to this like 70 times in the past 3 weeks. and I'm still yelling OH MY GOD at the screen. wen uve been dead for 30 years and people are yelling at their tv because they still cant believe it
I was floating on an old tin can in the Navy 1983 and a buddy in the engine room say Rusty, you gotta hear this dude. Instant connection and I knew right then Stevie Ray was what the world was missing .
I miss the days when musicians were actually musicians...imagine how much more music this guitar virtuoso could’ve produced if he were here today...you’re solely missed my friend.
I heard Mike McCready say that he saw Stevie live once and when he started Couldn't Stand the Weather the sky just opened up and it started raining like crazy. He said it was an epic moment. Stevie is the stuff of absolute legend.
Certainly one of their best live performances that I've heard. Fine piano solo as well. American music didn't often get much better than this back in 1985, at least for my money. A true talent still greatly missed...
In interviews he always expressed a profound sense of humility, often to the point of self-deprecation, while simultaneously lauding his influences and heroes. And then you hear him play. He was SO special.
Dude! that is exactly my story! I had barely even heard of him when my best friend drug me to The Paladium in LA around 1986. We bought tickets from a scalper out front, pushed our way up to the stage and just stood there in awe. He has been and always will be my favorite artist. My family even has intructions to play his music at my funeral, lol. But let's not forget Tommy, Reese and Chris!
for sure. it even seems like they extended the slow pick up they do on the intro here. total feel and timing as a unit.not equaled since the Experience. destroying sht
I saw SRV the night he died, Robert Cray, then Stevie, then Eric Clapton. Stevie’s set was unbelievable, greatest live performance on Guitar I’ve ever witnessed. Gives me goosebumps just thinking about it.
Those final concerts were other worldly. Our little trio moved way up front at Alpine Valley and we could see SRV's peacock tattoo. I can still work up tears watching Stevie videos. Who knows, y'all may have even sat near us!
I saw him 4 times. Starting with the Texas Flood tour. Was a hero from the start. Oodles of talent. There couldn't have been an SRV without Hendrix. There couldn't have been many players without Hendrix. That doesn't lessen their talent in their own right.
I mean....how?!...just so unreal and humbling...he was a channel...one with the music, one with the instrument. He wasn't "playing guitar". He was the guitar, and the guitar was him. This video is mind-blowing.
Don't know how many of y'all are from Texas... But this song was live y'all!!! I'm from El Paso Texas and Stevie was from Austin!!!! If your Texan show your pride!!!!
This is the song that got me hooked on SRV waaaay back in 85'. Cried my eyes out when I heard on the radio he was gone. RIP STEVIE...we all miss you so much!
Ok ,This is officially the best version i have heard of this song .Sure do miss S.R.V least we forget .R.I.P. Thank's for the amazing music and for staying true .
One of those rare times when SRVs awesome main lick might actually be outshone by the vocal line and chords of the verses. Great progression. And I love his vocals... its just that the guitar aspect is from another planet. Edit: and holey mother that was a breakdown jam in there!
I remember the first time I heard Stevie I started screaming: ''THIS IS THE MUSIC I'VE BEEN HEARING IN MY HEAD FOR ALL THESE YEARS''!!!!!!!!!!! ''WHO THE HELL IS THIS''! Never forget that moment.
Stevie will never be replaced! He was amazing at everything he played. They enjoyed playing with each other! Loved seeing their smiles. We miss you Stevie your music will always live on for generations to come! 😀❤️🎸
If you don’t play guitar, I dint think you can really appreciate how complex the rhythm lick that Stevie plays really is. And his tone. I know for a fact there are about 3 million players rocking Strats and not one of them can fully and completely replicate this song. Stevie was truly amazing.
I don't play guitar very well. I play air guitar extremely well... In my mind anyways why do air guitar to any one of my many Stevie favourites I hit every note in every solo.. I don't want to get into a debate but hey dude who does not agree that SRV is in the top five all time super cool super rockin Soulful Axe-Men of all time simply does not know what he is talking about
Stevie is the best player of all time in my opinion Hendrix, Clapton, they’re all up there as well. What difference does it make if someone can replicate them
As an avid Strat player with 40+ yes of band experience, Stevies playing both inspired me and made me want to give up playing at the same time. His ability to just have the guitar become an extension of himself, and pull tones out of the instrument that I've never come close to achieving. And you're right, non players may not have the same understanding of just what a rare talent he was. In 7yrs he introduced so many people to the blues and many longtime blues plates credit him with the revival of their careers. Guitar players ran out to buy the albums of all the blues greats SRV mentioned that influenced him. Tragic the way it ended for him, his loss to blues lovers around the world left holes in all our hearts.
My favorite SRV song...so much emotion! Took Hendrix to another dimension with the "Texas twang"...easily identifiable, had his own unique sound. Thank God I saw him on the USS Enterprise w/ Joe satriani opening back in '87 or '88 in NYC. We're still waiting for another great blues guitarist to come along...Thanks Stevie!!!
Imagine doing THIS, then going on to do God knows how many more songs for the set. Then waking up and doing it again the next day.. and the next day.. and NEVER ONCE losing that fire. Day after day, night after night...
It's a rather cold and lonely world without this dude and his amazing band. And not an heir in sight. How long must we wait. Almost thirty years of compromise and mediocrity.
AnalogOpher HAHAHAHA are you serious????? He just copy catted Real Bluesman..He got on MTV and that was a lot of peoples indruction to blues..too bad SRV wasnt really that good of a representative of Blues but rather a mediocre guitarist...nothing original no innovative style or technique..most important NO FEELING OR EMOTION!!!! Just flashy clothes and a guy show boating to audiences that couldnt discern a counterfeit from the genuine article.. Go back and educate your self on The Blues..go buy a cheap electric guitar and amp look up on youtube how to play what he played ..then you will understand how Stevie wasnt really that good...Just A pop blues wannabe. That got lucky on some MTV videos LOL. It is tragic and sad that he got killed not disrespecting that. If he would have kept going another 10 or 20 years and improving got off the drugs and got serious and forgot about the flashy hats and capes and clothes got down to business he could have been great
Matooley O'Brien I want you to listen to lenny then tell me he had no feeling. Playing fast does not equal a lack of feeling he was capable of both and the vast majority of guitarists would agree.
+Martin Tramil. Hey bra, thats great ive seen many guitarists in my 30 yrs of shows trower, blackmore, vai satraiani, i could go on , but stevie stood alone so soulful mean gutair player i say this in a great way, thats cool u saw him to i have 8 electrics and a acoustic , yea i love guitars . hope to stay in touch bra.
Yeah, me too, brother. I was just heading in to work the day I heard the news of his death. I cried like I would if I'd heard about the death of my best friend. Almost 30 years later & I still can't believe he's actually, really, gone. Rest In peace, Stevie Ray.
Loving the little dance Stevie and Tommy are doing while Chris and Reese are solid born grooving. To me the greatest CSTW. They are laying it down people !!!!!!
He would make every bluesman past and present proud by his music. It’s easy to see he puts all his heart and soul into it. If ever a man and his guitar were one it’s Stevie🎸
In 1980 my wife and I hand carried a Diamond and Ruby bracelet from our " Cartiers" Jewelry store in Paris to Texas for Stevie's 26th birthday. He invited us to stay the night and celebrate his birthday. The Tequila flowed.
I've been listening to Stevie every day for about 2 years. Never got tired of anything. And if I ever discover new artists I always come back to Stevie. Hes a true musician And I've never learnt so much about music from one man whom I've never met.
I Last saw Stevie in 1990,when on raining night, got to be almost 1 on 1 with SRV, he was gracious enough to talk for about 20+ minutes with myself & my rhythm player. They broke the mold when we lost Stevie,, I cried.A Lasting memory.
truly there will never be another like him. these videos are a testament to his greatness and if you were lucky enough to see him perform in person (as I did in 1984 in Hawaii with Jeff Beck!!!) it was truly a transcendent experience.
