I found this in 2019 i played it constantly . He was the best blues Guitarist ive ever heard . I adored him . Pure talent . RIP Stevie Ray . Everyone wishes you were still here with us .♥️😞💔
This was the night Stevie Ray Vaughan officially took the gloves off and became the GOAT. From the seamless guitar switch, to the MID-NOTE plug change, to the soul of the singing. Then, THAT SOLO. Almost three straight minutes of shredding. Live feedback control with manual amp changes WHILE STILL PLAYING. The soul he pulls from Charlie is UNBELIEVABLE. Then the behind-the-back spectacle, into the break. But the true testament: after the break, he restarts for the rest of the solo FROM BEHIND THE BACK. Then he plays with his teeth, loses a tooth on stage, and keeps going. This is not a blues show. This is a religious experience. This is a man ascending to the top guitar providence.
ironic that srv says to not put people down, but here you are. You are miscomprehending his comment, so slow down and give it another read. Facts says the old man
@@Craigkimmel I was not there, and never said I was. I was born in 2001, eleven years after he died outside of Alpine Valley. But I have seen this recorded performance dozens of times. I have analyzed the majority of SRV's discography, including his sessions with Dick Dale and Albert King. And this still stands eternal as one of the best performances of his career.
SRV was just unbelievable. He died on my 17th birthday, Wow, hard to believe that was 34 years ago this month. I heard his name every now and again and occasionally saw it in a guitar mag, but it's a shame I didn't understand how much I should appreciate him until he was gone. My head was in heavy metal and the 80s shredders like Vai and Malmsteen and whatnot. But when the dust cleared SRV is the guitar legend like no other. He's like a character out of a movie or something. His legend, his story, his archeytype is renown as his music which are staples on the airwaves all across this great land. When's the last time you walked into a bar or turned on the radio and heard Yngwie? Stevie was one bad motorscooter and his music is played anywhere people gather to this day.
We played this at my dad's service on Saturday. All through my life, he'd always said he wanted it played at his funeral. This song hit hard when I was young and hits even harder now that he's gone.
I lost my boyfriend of 6 years a few months ago- it's crazy how even if you didn't know the lyrics to this song, the guitar alone still fits the title. Straight up perfection. To anyone watching or in the comments grieving a loved one, I'm sending love
What a beautiful comment. I'm sorry for your loss. My Mom passed away last month, and this is the first time I've listened to this song since then. SRV has been my favorite guitarist since I first heard him in '86, and I always thought the start of this solo sounded like someone taking flight, so brilliantly played. We can't replace our lost ones, but they live on in our memories. To you and anyone else seeing this, I wish much love and life ahead.
Right back at you. I lost the love of my life in 2018. In 2021 I lost my oldest son. One month later I lost my Mother. Sometimes life sux big ones.... 💔😭💔
"We are all here to help each other, love each other, and be brothers and sisters. We've got one chance in this life, to get out of here whether we have to do it over and over or not. And that is to learn to love everybody else and treat them just like ourselves, or forget it. Let's all try to learn a few things and pick each other up when we're down. And not push anybody down cause we're up."
@@holladaycummings7884 That's the plan. One for all, and all for one. I've got my God and my grandmother to thank for my soul. Hope you have a wonderful life, friend. Let's do what we can to make the most of this madness.
I know! I mean of course Im glad he still did albums, I like the variation and sometimes its easier to learn the licks from the studio version, but DAMN if I don't always prefer listening to the live versions! Couldn't Stand the Weather is a great example of that!
No doubt! I got to see him in Spartanburg South Carolina not long before the end for one of the most talented people what ever did grow in my eyes and he was exactly what I thought he would be... My HERO!!!
Live Alive the only live album he released in his lifetime. In The Beginning and videos like Live At El Mocambo are posthumously released live recordings.
My husband and I was and are, huge fans of Stevie's, and we listened to him all the time, and my boys too. We were married 2/14/1990, the year Stevie died. He was heartbroken, as we all were. My husband passed away from cancer in 2010, and we played Texas Flood, and Riviera Paradise at his funeral. I can never hear the songs without feeling the bittersweet pain of losing him, and Stevie too.
God bless you! My husband went to high school with Stevie.. now he’s passed away.. played in several bands in oak cliff.. left me two sons that carry on just like Stevie.. one born 1980 other born 1990 guess what my 1990s baby boy exactly like Stevie..
Just visited his gravesite in Oak Cliff, TX on the 30 year anniversary of his passing, then to his statue in Austin, TX. I’m glad to see fresh flowers laid at both locations, his music continues to touch the hearts of many. I’m only 23 years old so I never had the pleasure of witnessing his passion live in person, but I’m glad I can listen to his music and watch his performances. No one can make you feel like he can when he plays and there never will be. RIP SRV, thank you for all the love you passed our way...
How did you find the cemetery and where is his statue. My grandson is 16 i showed him a video of SRV when he was 10. He has been playing the guitar for 3 years now. He and i both think Srv was the greatest guitarist that ever lived and I want to take my grandsons and that same trip. Please send me some info.
Holy crap. I didn't realize it was only 3 hours from me, near Dallas. Time to make a trip to visit SRV. THANK YOU! The one place I'll go before my dad can't anymore is Macon, Georgia to visit Duane, Berry, Gregg, & Butch. Is Butch buried with them? I hope so. I recall that he is but I haven't looked to be sure.
Changed guitars, playing behind his back , eyes closed, bending 13 gauge strings like dental floss, delivering a heart felt sermon and finishing with an out of tune instrument....just an astonishing performance...litterly stunned. And for those people that thumbs down this performance SRV graciously had a song even for you "Riviera Paradise". I just watched this again still jaw dropping epic God like performance. At 5:32 the tears begin...im with you stevie I'm with you stevie.
I've always said that God every once in a while sends a being to earth who's talent transcends everybody else and shows what true gifts really are...Stevie Ray Vaughn is proof.
I tend to agree. We are lucky enough to occasionally have great teachers, people who inspire us to be nearly as good as we're afraid we're not. Stevie Ray isn't just a master, mesmerising musician; he's an example of what we can be -- with a little bit of love.
can anyone believe there was a time when stevie was shy to sing because he was worried he was not good enough. a true talent in every way. his voice was made for the blues.
Stevie played in quite a few bands....growing up in Texas! Always as guitar, rhythm or lead! Glad he started vocals....he had a different voice! Guitar playing......no explanation!
In early recordings, he was holding back, more like Hendrix When he kinda talked his way through the verses. His voice grew with time to a powerful presence, every bit as much of his total package as was his playing. Add the seemingly effortless moves and his singular fashion taste in hats and outfits and they all created one dynamite persona.
@TD S it was all about the flow. I remember one of the old blues legends saying "the thing about Stevie, he was like a channel. He never dried up. I never saw him have to think about the next thing to do, what note to play. He just knew and he did it." No higher praise is possible.
This is so EASY : playing with one hand, picking up picks, tuning, adjusting the amp, playing behind back, or changing guitar without breaks all that while knocking out sounds that make your guts cry and scream. Yeah SO EASY to say that this is my favourite guitarist ever!
And, he couldn't read music and also taught himself to play at age 7. Not only did he break strings on regular basis but guitar necks sometimes had to be reinforced... his hands were THAT strong
This is so badass. i love how he stops in the middle of the solo to tell people about getting along. its like he waits until he has everyone's full attention then says his stuff. almost like its more important
My husband passed this Jan 3rd. He was an amazing blues player in his own right. This song will be included at his memorial and I know how big his smile will be. He admired Stevie so much.
@Sully Sullivan sure did! My heart still bleeds. My God, still affects me after all this time. Yet I return to see and listen to this beautiful soul from another realm. Bawling my eyes out every time. In all your beautiful glory Stevie rest in heaven. ❤
here we go! I always loved him, he was unstoppable. Imagine Hendrix and Stevie playing together, or just imagine them at the same time on the Earth... As we say in Spain, acojonante primo!
y'all got that right! just came across this, what a treat and blessing to be able to revisit SRV like this and hear this. He's talking about Nicuragua and iran-contra and that certain fam that ran the op fr TX. (if u didn't know) It's hard to watch knowing the direction that cookie crumbled, but timeless, and brilliant. _No matter what_ it's love that wins - much love!
The way he looks at the crowd as he speaks… The way he plays that guitar… And spreads words of love… One day when we evolve enough to leave our own galaxy, we may fly by where he came from. 🎸🙏❤️
This really is the perfect song. Every squeeze of the neck , every footstep. , every swing of his body , to the adjusting of the strings, to the expression on his face. And the feedback Is a musical note pure genius. If you dont understand. I am sorry for you I love you stevie. Thank you.
Listen to Stevie has changed my life for real he is never conceited and so for real I actually cry every time I think of his death give anything to b able to meet this wonderful human being or just sit and jam or talk to him on my bucket list go to Austin Texas to c his home town and maybe museum where number one is on display
As much as I love & am in awe of Jimi Hendrix, I gotta say. Stevie Ray learned well from The Best. And fuck the rest. This world is such a beautiful place because of Jimi & Stevie Ray. May they both be at peace. They deserve it........
I'm 75 years old and this still gives me goosebumps Stevie Ray Vaughan is a CLASSIC What a great talent he had and the guy playing the Organ with his right hand and the Piano with his left at the same time its amazing and that Guitar Switcharoo so smooth and never missed a beat Unbelievable
Very fortunate to see him twice live. Only musician that I cry about when I watch videos like this one. He was just getting it together when he passed. Was going to make so much more music. What a GOD given talent. Thank you for these clips.
I was 31 hours old when this performance took place. Happy to say I was alive enough on this Earth to exist in a timeframe where I had the ability to listen to SRV.
Stevie was such a pro! Seamlessly swapped guitars when his string broke, played behind his back, and sang with a tooth he broke when playing with his teeth and never missed a note or a beat!!!
Totally understand. To this day I can only listen to one song at a time and able to enjoy it. I can't listen to anymore because I just breakdown over the loss.
We played this at my grandfather's funeral today, I've never heard it before. My grandfather was laid to rest in the same cemetery as Stevie, maybe he'll hear him playing it sometime.
When he was killed in the helicopter crash. I mourned for him like people mourned for Elvis. He got off of drugs, and alcohol, and was headed for a bright future. I sure miss him.! Seen him live a month before his death.
WOW!!!!!!! I turned 76 yrs old last week and just discovered Stevie Ray I was busy taking care of three children, a sick husband who was sick for 26 years and believed that anything but hymns were of the devil. LOL I see pure love in him. Let us enjoy this and forget about all the things that don't really matter. The very highest and best to all.
Greatest guitarist ever IMO. People are so blown away by his soulful guitar expertise, that his vocal talent is mostly overlooked. Stevie had a pitch-perfect voice, melodic and tender when appropriate, or husky bass-laden throat growl when appropriate. He was, IMO, musical perfection. This song really showcases his vocal talent.
I agree with you. I know someone who knew him well from the Austin scene. Always said that he indeed was humble & honest. I like this version for the stellar guitar, but one other version where he talks about needing help & he got it. Then similar talk about love & being brothers & sisters. That message is needed so much these days. Legendary, for sure! 👍😁
Saw him in my 20s San Antonio. Drove there alone got toasty and ended up 2nd row center stage. Happened to be roped off that gold braided stuff. No one in a block of seats. How dumb could I be right.. My toasty young self sat right there. Never told to leave and I have no words to express the magnitude of his performance. Behind the back, and deep golden snake skin pointed boots. ( Stage level in 2nd row) I saw every time I brought my head down. Exceptional experience never forgotten
Eric ee : You hit the nail perfectly! He was an AWESOME Talent Plus: An Awesome Man. I honestly don’t think he could stand it if he saw what’s going on, now....It would: Break His 💔
I am so friggin' ashamed to say this is this first time I have seen this AMAZING soul. What a fine example of a man and a musician. He sets a high bar.
Watch his Austin City Limits video piece. It’s a game changer…. Riviera Paradise will speak to you in the same way Life Without You does. Listen to the dedication at the start. Glad you found him!!!
Saw him live in 1980 Steve come to town, his was humble and amazing human, old man crying now watching this video now. RIP thanks you for all the great music.
This is a concept that is still alive and well. I've traveled this country for many years and despite what the government wants you to think empathy, compassion, and love for thy neighbor is not just alive, but it's thriving 🥰❤️🥰
Hi everyone..I didn't hear about SRV untill he had died. The reason I heard about him was because a friend of mine died in the same crash. I had worked with Nigel Browne as a bodyguard and he was a lovely bloke. When he was killed in the helicopter crash I became aware of SRV and now listen to him all the time. Whenever I listen to him playing I remember my friend Nigel and even after all this time it still brings a tear to my eye..
The man also was know for his EMPATHY the black musicians like albert king were quoted as saying stevie was there brother and bo diddly told freinds stevie was the whitest black soal hes ever know ! R.I.P SRV ❤!!!!
Paje Foster : An Amazing Man! 🤦🏻♀️...if he came back now...it’s a terrible thought. I’m so happy that he Finally smiled being alcohol-free! Apache Stevie Ray Vaughan❤️
most music is like math you put notes or cords togeather to make a sound but there are a few that justcmakes the music flow like stevie henderix santana and jerry garcia thank you trampo for givin ne the gift of timeless music love your life pops i am comming to see you soon my life light is burnt out and i got two bits for the river stix
I want this played at my funeral so everyone knows how I feel when I hear SRV. Close your eyes, sway with the riffs, listen to him speak then hold on he will take you away from all the b.s. on earth we deal with in 2020 Live life like it's your last, love one another, laugh, cry, and "pick each other up" so says Mr. Vaughn! Love this man 4 ever! God rest his beautiful soul!
Moving the lyrics to the top.... Well hello baby, Tell me, How have you been? We all have missed you, And the way you grin The day is necessary, Every now and then For souls to move on, Given life back again Fly on, Fly on, Fly on my friend Go on, Go on and live again, Love again Cause day after day, Night after night Sittin' here singin', every, every minute As the years go passin' by A long look in the mirror, We come face to face Wishin' our love we took for granted A love we had yesterday, Life Without You All the love, you've passed our way Angels have waited, for so long Now they have their way Take your place.... Talk at 6 min I hope we've all learned something lately about a few things There's no longer time for any of us to do things Like what happened to a few friends of mine In a part of the Country.. Down South. Anywhere in the World where people push people down instead of pick them up We are all here to help each other Love each other. And be brothers and sisters We got one chance in this life to get out of here weather we have to do it over and over or not. And that is to learn To love everybody else and treat them just like ourselves or forget it. Let's all try to learn a few things. Pick each other up when we are down. And not ever push people down because we are up You with me? All right...
We need this message from Stevie now, more than ever! RIP SRV and let your words heal those that are putting people down instead of picking people up! Continue to inspire generation after generation!
Truly a Guitar God!! not mention how he can change guitars mid songs and tweak his pedal board mid solo and his amp without messing up then play an entire solo behind his back!! Long live SRV!! 🤘🏾🤘🏾
When I argue with other people that he was the greatest guitarist who ever lived, I point to this video and his live 12 string Testify performance on MTV Unplugged. I’ve never seen another guitarist, live, or on video that can hold a candle to either.
This Is Exactly WHY I Still Pass On All Of Stevie's Music, Especially Live - That Is Available Now....His Interviews, His Humor, His Love For His Family, & His Band (His Extended Family) & The Love He Shared w/All Who Heard Him In Concert...I Saw Stevie Often....Those Are Special Memories That Stay w/Me....I Will Continue To Share Stevie As He Shared Himself....
I had the incredible fortune of seeing this virtuoso play live four times, each time more amazing than the last. One of the most humble, gracious guitarists in the world, now or ever. How do you replace him? You cannot. You can just listen in awe, close your eyes and imagine that he is still here. Stevie is, and will always be in my heart, in my soul and at the very front of my music collection. I miss you, and when I pass on I will be in the front row, center, to hear you play in heaven.
@@HLS6935 I caught him 3 times, twice at JazzFest in New Orleans and once at an amphitheater in Eugene. Wish I’d seen him on the In Step tour, they sounded so sharp at that point. SRV made the most of his days and remains a positive force.
@Shelly Terral "In the mother country down south anywhere in the world where people push people down instead of pick them up." It's a very kind and powerful speech, but he was toasted 🤣
This music will never get old, 100 years from now people will be in awe of this man and his God given talents! PICK EACH OTHER UP!! NEVER FORGET THESE WORDS PEOPLE OF THE WORLD! PEACE, LOVE AND ROCK AND ROLL
It's a good one, but you'd really would have had to of seen every one of his shows to make an honest tr u e eval...it is...cause he had a lot of good ones... And so did many other artists... it is..
Still AWESOME in 2022. Absolute legend. Great guy, great musician, great performance, great band and a display on guitar which may well be one of the most underrated and overlooked performance EVER! Good job 'those that know' witnessed this and share this gem with the few that are able to see and understand this guitar genius. His time with us was limited................ His effect on most, was unsurpassed.
:) there no few....simply he was one of a kind not even drugs n alcohol diminished his playing....lots of copy cats....but he is well preserved in history...his music says that...those who do to understand simply do not understand music..that simple
I don't know how many times I've watched this but I'll be damned if it don't still blow my mind just like the 1st time. I know what he's gonna do but when he does it...I still have to pick up my jaw off the floor. It never gets old or stale & certainly not boring. The man hypnotizes me..every time.
I so agree. Sometimes the mood strikes and I can listen to this song all day. Thank god we get to see him perform this song. This boy and this band is in a league all their own. Heaven sent.
He was the epitomy of blues. Such a tragedy to have lost such an extraordinary singer, songwriter so soon! He gives me chills every time I hear him sing. ❤️
SRV was just incredible. Gary Rossington from Lynyrd Skynyrd said, "We played with Stevie Ray at the CDB Volunteer Jam. I couldn't believe it. He had that old beat up looking Strat with 'SRV' on it. I said, 'Man, you keep playing like that you can get yourself a new one!'" RIP great one!
FatStogie it was a joke bro, he switches guitar mid song, starts off with red, winds up playing a white one - they zoom in on him when it happens so you can’t see the guy swapping the guitars for him
Andrew Coe Andrew Coe you’re getting to technical here man haha. Any guitar he plays, he plays it with emotion. Looks like hes playing a white Stratocaster. But the way he plays that guitar is legendary.
I visit and watch once. Then I put headphones and watch again. 60 minutes later I'm still watching over and over. Guitar switch, play behind back, play with teeth, play one handed... Best guitarist ever? This is one of those rare performances that is so much better when you see how he plays rather than just listen. So moving
I got kicked here on accident from a Gov't mule cover of Etta James I'd rather go blind... but I was like holy shit, is that Stevie? Then I couldn't change the video
I found a great poster of him on Amazon . The way the lights are hitting him it looks as if the music is coming out of his body . Such an amazing talent taken way too soon . Thanks for sharing .
I did read he hated singing and would put it off to the last minute to do the vocals.....like most geniuses he wasn't aware how brilliant a vocalist he was...let alone his guitar playing..RIP SRV...!!!!
I agree all the super talent seems to fade away. If your starving for new talent check out; Gary Clark Jr He has a great soulful voice and totally out of this world guitar. I saw him in Boise, excellent band.
Absolutely. With his plea for everyone to help to lift each other up during times of trouble, to be there for your fellow human being, that's the message we need today.
God Stevie if you can hear me man, I’m ballin crying now because this has to be the best performance you’ve ever made. At the end you thank you to your guitar tech. Nobody ever does that. You were in gratitude at the end of your life in know that and you wanted and share your love for music with everyone to lift them up. Hope you know how much I love you. Your my brother and I’m going find you if I ever get to your realm in the stars and we’re going to jam. I hope are so so happy with your your family and friends 🍀🎯💕🌺🎁🗽🔥🌞💐🙏
I was wondering who he was talking too---It's so hard to take you eyes off---but at the same time you want to close them and just ride the wave with him. I can't watch him and not cry my eyes out. Glad I saw you comment. Sometimes I just read the comments about him and I feel better about the world.
