You can say what you want, name whomever you like, and maybe some were AS good... but nobody ever played an electric guitar BETTER than this guy. It is impossible.
I've heard Clapton say when he plays solos he's conscious of repeating himself. But when he hears SRV, it's just flowing from his soul. Fine description.
If you've never played pool, smoked a cigarette, and drank with this song playing in the background. Then I feel sorry for you. Long live SRV, long live the blues.
Not only did he play behind his back better than most guitarists around play out front, he gave big props to his band and was very humble. And they weren't just Double Trouble, he made sure everyone knew they were SERIOUS Trouble.
I've been playing guitar and singing for over 40years now, and believe me when I tell you that this is called giving it your absolute all on that stage. Love you Great Stevie and Double Trouble
Always heard SRV was something. Never believed it. Watched this. The guy is high as a kite and .. bored. So he's gonna play it behind his back. Genius.
Nice work, you are the man that won the power ball 2 times and remember Seeing SRV Live! I can only Imagine seeing the best guitarist play of all time twice.!
What a story too! I never knew who he was, I was 16 maybe 17 and my dad made me go.. Best thing he ever MADE me do!!! Saw him at Mud-Island in Memphis, TN with a crowd of 6-8,000 (can't remember), after the show we went to the Rum Boogie Cafe on Beale Street and 5 minutes after getting a table in the packed bar, in walked Stevie with the band. They locked the doors and he played for 60 minutes for a few hundred, before signing the guitar. Like I posted above, I will NEVER forget it.. lol
Live a good life, and one day you will see the best live concert ever...SRV, Duane, BB, Jimi and so many more. Can you imagine the after life Fillmore Heaven show? I invite you all to add the rest of the performers.
Listening to this on the day of THE GREAT HOUSTON FLOOD, August 27, 2017 on the day and morning of SRV's death on The same day on 1990. RIP SRV and prayers for my amigos in H-Town.
the man was simply put on the earth to play guitar. every time i watch him i just agree more with that statement. it is one thing to comprehend what he did, it is another thing to do what he did. he is teaching god guitar lesson right now :)
I was working in the black part of town and had SRV cranking on the work radio when two old timers came up the stairs because they had to know who this guy was! They said he plays like Jimmie and it's the blues. You should have seen the look on their faces when I told them he was white. They asked how could these white teenagers know the blues. We rattled off a list of the greats and we had a moment of understanding that only music could bring. You see we were kindred sprits.
What's sad is my mom loved Stevie when I was younger and I hated the blues..... Now she's gone and I would love to sit back smoke a joint with her and watch this!!! Can't believe I didn't , couldn't, or wouldn't enjoy this with her. Damn
I love SRV and I feel his pain. Cocaine is a hell of a drug. I'm happy he got sober. See the difference less than a year from his death "One night in Texas" on Austin City Limits.
The best place to listen to this was Boogers Ice House in Baytown, Texas...playing pool, drinking beer and trying to catch a breeze. The good old days, I miss them.
One of the only dudes I never saw in L.A. I completely missed his concert…Jeff Beck and another band who I have forgotten opened for him. This was back in around in the late 70s (I think…). Have NO idea why. I saw Zep, Cream, etc every time they came to the L.A. area. One of my many regrets in life…
Black, white, yellow, purple, green there is no better blues guitarists. Behind the back like a boss not missing a beat. I'm sorry Hendrix worshipers, Jimmy ' s taking lessons to catch up. Wow!
SRV covered plenty of Hendrix songs and look how he is dressed for god sakes he took a lot from Hendrix. Hendrix never even knew who SRV was. Is SRV more technically sound absolutely. Hendrix was the first to ever do it though no one to copy from or learn from his sound was his alone.
+Frankincensed No offense to you man but if you didn't even know Hendrix died 40 plus years ago you probably shouldn't comment on who's better than him.
I never found SRV's music until he was gone. Not that I would of had a chance to see him live it's one of the fantasy concerts I would attend if only one.
