I don't believe nowadays, in the 21st Century, that ANYONE could play GUITAR the way STEVIE RAY VAUGHN DID AND COULD. HE HAD, FOR ONE THING, INCREDIBLY STRONG HANDS. He had the Imagination and Tenacity to Soar Above the Clouds into Deepest and Highest Outer Space. He HAD NO LIMITS. NONE. HE DIDN'T LIMIT HIMSELF. HE SOARED.

You don’t just “watch” Stevie Ray.. you EXPERIENCE Stevie Ray.

I believe that to be the greatest live performance of anything in history.

For all of the mountains of music I've listened to in my life of 62 years, I've NEVER witnessed anymore more AT ONE with his instrument than Stevie Ray Vaughan.

All my life I've been a Hendrix nut, and one day my friend John Fox called me over to listen to this new guy Steve Ray Von on his outrageous Quad stereo. At that time there were several good guitar players trying to fill Hendrix void, but they just didn't cut it... So my friend John qued up SRV Texas flood and cranked it till the roof about came off the house... I WAS BLOWN AWAY! And afterwards for my Birthday he invited me to see SRV live at the Palladium in LA... Back then at the Palladium there was no seating, if you arrived early, you could stand next to the stage. So, I got to see this guitar god play for over an hour, and he never moved from the same spot. He smoked & sweated while he was playing this amazing music and drank what looked like straight vodka in between songs. It was an experience I will never forget the rest of my life.

I had the privilege to see Stevie and BB King at the Greek in California shortly before he passed away and it was a experience!!! He's memorizing to watch play and no other words can describe what you're witnessing what you see and hear are not of this world....glad you guy's showed this because only hearing it isn't enough!!! Love your reactions.

I was going to see Ray Charles at a Seattle Festival and SRV was first act. We had no clue who he was. We were blown away by his talent as well as his band. Ray Charles stood in the wings dancing and loving how Stevie made his guitar sing so beautifully. He crowd went wild! We paid $7.50 to see them. We bought tickets to his upcoming tour but sadly he passed before could. RIP SWEET SRV

I REALLY appreciate the way the guy in the middle admits that it's understandable how the older generation can say that music has degenerated from where it once was, and how everyone needs to see this particular video of Stevie. This is surely one of the greatest music performances ever captured on film! There's ALOT of Stevie's stuff on RU-vid and such---please check it out. NOBODY else played like he did! And he did it on a guitar that most other players couldn't physically handle because it had such heavy strings and high action. The way he played with utter physicality, feeling and technical virtuosity---along with that gritty, bluesy singing voice was mesmerizing. As a blues aficionado and someone who lives in Texas, all I can say is when a blues legend, Eric Clapton says, “ he just channeled the blues” it’s not enough. When I fist saw him it was a the Montrose Blues Festival, he was the only performer without a recording contract. They booed him when he was announced and after his first song he slayed them. Made me proud to be a Texan…

Stevie was In Full Beast Mode, that night at El Mocambo. Thank God all that Greatness Got Recorded on Film! I consider it Actual Treasure. I would not sell my El Mocambo DVD for any amount of money! Stevie Felt Every Note and He Poured Out His Soul for all to hear and see. This is the hallmark of a True Blueman.

No disrespect to musicians today but our generation was lucky as hell. Pure talent in spades.

When Stevie plays, even the guitar sweats

Not just a master on guitar, but nobody, and I mean nobody had a better “stank” face than Stevie! I had tears in my eyes the day he died.

I got to see him twice, the last time was the night before he died. He just froze you in your place, just watching in awe. Even the legendary Eric Clapton said that watching SRV made him doubt his own playing skills. The dude was...The Dude.

Just in case you have not heard it said before: THOSE WHO CAN SING - SING THOSE WHO CAN PLAY - PLAY THOSE WHO CAN SING & PLAY - ARE STEVIE RAY!!

He was an extra terrestrial entity. Nobody plays like this. Absolute unique.

If you were blessed, you got to see SRV live! I was blessed, and we had an exceptional moment in Pittsburgh, on the river under a bridge in Southside! As Stevie was launching into a solo a train came past the tracks behind the stage and it was if SRV had planned it himself to show up at that moment! How he made it fit right in WAS MAGIC! That what Stevie was...he was MAGIC! 🤘😎

Stevie's on another level entirely. I saw him play in 1989 at the Starlight Bowl in San Diego...still the best live show I've ever seen.

The one and only SRV! He was unbelievably talented! The concert was in June of 1990, shortly before his tragic death. It was an unforgettable, breezy, summer night in Indianapolis at what was then called Deer Creek Music Center.. Magical evening watching him play, I'll never forget it. RIP Stevie.

As incredible as his guitar playing was, Stevie's vocals were just out of this world. The blues literally just pour out of his body. And to think his high school music teacher told him he had no talent.....

SRV used to play at a bar down the street from my home in Austin, Texas. One day, my girlfriend and I were riding a bike by the bar and stopped into for a cold Shiner beer. SRV was on stage with a host of bluesmen, including Buddy Guy. The barmaid said the bar was closed, but we begged for just one cold beer - it was hot as hell that day. She looked at Buddy, who nodded his head "yes." And we were treated to an hour of music by some of the greatest blues musicians of their day. Wow! We were so close to the stage, I could hear SRV's pick clicking on the strings. Magical. When Stevie played, you could imagine what it must have been like to see Jimi Hendrix back in the day. A force of nature, he was.

Stevie was the most kind, gentle,humbled man you would have the pleasure to know. I miss him still, every day. A grace injustice if Not Live!

YES - THIS is 🎶 music. My Father cried the day SRV died. It came on the radio as I was walking into the living room. I was 19 and it was the first time I ever saw my larger than life Dad cry (which scared the piss out of me then - haha) but the announcement came on, he just stood there for a second, took two steps back to the couch and just sat down and cried 😢 my parents saw SRV live twice and I was lucky enough that they took me once. There are simply no words for seeing him live. Pure genius, total 🔥 It may sound mean but I'd trade numerous, numerous "musical artists" today for to have Stevie back 🙏❤️

I’ve seen a lot of reactions to SRV on RU-vid and nobody has had the interpretation I’ve had of this song. I view the “flood” being his emotions of losing a lover and all the “telephone lines” being down is him dealing with the isolation of being alone. This song is so beautiful on a lyrical scale as well as SRV’s mastery of guitar.

And now you know why he is the GOAT!

This is that one song that every time he play it it’s like he’s getting something off his chest. I love the studio version but every live version is unique and amazing

I was lucky enough to see him play live in 1989. He did this one just frigging amazing. Played the final encore together with Jeff Beck. 2 guitar gods on stage together. So sad he died not long after though darned helicopter crash.

I was at Stevie Ray Vaughn's last concert at Alpine Valley the night his helicopter crashed. The lineup was Eric Clapton, SRV, Robert Cray and Buddy Guy. I remember leaving the concert and saying to myself that I would never miss SRV if he was ever in my area again. Sadly I will never have that opportunity.

Stevie and I grew up in the same neighborhood...went to the same high school...stomped some of the same ground. We never crossed paths, as far as I know, but there was always a detectable hint of him around. I was just a teenager during his greatest years, but I am proud to have shared the same air with him. I only recently began playing guitar. I one day decided I should have a guitar hero - someone to aspire to. I knew there could be only one. Stevie Ray Vaughan.

I had waited about 6 years to see Stevie in concert. That day *finally* came. In the 10,000 seat arena, I was right in front of him. It was one of the happiest days of my life. His sweat was dripping on me the whole time. I didn't want the show to end. He was dead 2 weeks later. I still haven't gotten over it and never will. There are many amazing guitarists, equally as talented and skilled, but Stevie had something more...divine going on with him. He can do more than Texas blues, too. Check out Riviera Paradise for a more jazzy number. I am certain he could have done heavy metal had he wanted to. He's one of very few people who has ever been able to truly master their instrument. Think about the fact that he was getting hit songs on the radio doing *Texas blues* smack dab in the middle of the 80's techno pop, Madonna and Culture Club era! Stevie Ray's playing is just nasty sweet. Playing behind your back and not missing a beat is a WTF moment. I love the look on your faces. You can't believe what you are seeing but you know it's once-in-a-liftetime greatness. Notice you guys weren't saying anything during that period, just like the audience. That's why they were quiet; don't ruin a wow moment. Actually, the crowd was probably quiet for several reasons - they were likely told the concert/song was being recorded, they were in awe and they/we are Canadian, very respectful.
