Saw SRV in the mid-70's in South Texas before he was well-known, playing with a band I believe called the Cobras, his roots in blues was so strong, and remember thinking this guy was gonna be bigger than anyone else on the scene at that time. He was the epitome of Texas blues, a Texas legend, and a damn nice guy to boot. We miss him, he was truly one of the greatest of all time.

The crowd is both mesmerized and shocked! They are very much aware that they're witnessing greatness. There simply is no crowd participation because everyone is studying those killer riffs. Its just the way it was at many shows back then. You came to see a performance...not some popular image whereby the audience participates and is a big part of the overall show.

I think the audience was just sitting there in stunned silence in the face of this briliance! 😁 Stevie was using a wah-wah pedal that used to belong to Jimi Hendrix. He personally asked Jimi's family for permission to cover this song, and Jimi's father gave him the pedal as a gift. Jimi was one of his biggest idols, and it's been said that no one covered Jimi better than Stevie. He wasn't just covering him here, he was channeling him in a way all his own. Here are some more suggestions for you: Texas Flood (Live at the El Mocambo): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-KC5H9P4F5Uk.html Tin Pan Alley (with Johnny Copeland): ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-AGPx-ekqZEo.html Love Struck Baby / Rude Mood: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-O4IKddEs5xs.html Riviera Paradise: ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-3c_8VUL5jks.html Everything he did was awesome; those are just for a start. Stevie Ray is always best experienced live. His studio recordings were great, but his energy really came out on stage. Each live performance was unique because he made a point of never playing any song the same way twice. Thankfully we can now watch many of them on YT and choose our favourites. Sadly he died in a helicopter crash in 1990, but he will live on in his music. I'm so happy you're discovering him and spreading the word to others! Hope you enjoy my suggestions!

Texas Flood from Austin by Stevie, Tin Pan Alley with Johnny Copeland. Little Wing, Look at Little Sister. SRV did this song slightly different every time. Self taught, used major heavy strings which would tear tip of his fingertips. BB King said “ I've said that playing the blues is like having to be black twice. Stevie Ray Vaughan missed on both counts, but I never noticed.”

@@billmavin1998 this specific show is for Austin City Limits, filmed in a TV studio on the University of Texas campus in a building that looks like a shitty accountant's office. It is very much not a large venue or club, there were less than 300 people in there to witness this.

No man, this is just how we took the music in back then..This wasn't just your everyday disco slop!..This was some damn serious playing going on here!..People absorb music in their own way...There's toe-tapping, mindless crap, then there's this...Think of it this way; do you chug expensive wine, or do you savor it?..The people there knew they were witnessing greatness, and they don't wanna miss any of it...And just to put a period on this statement..Look at your face around at the 4 minute mark..You ain't moving then, are you?..Know why?..'cause you realized just how special this is, and you are stunned..Well, now you know what they were feeling, and/or it could also be that they were stoned off their ass!...Lol!

My mother was from Texas and I grew up hearing SRV every Saturday morning for years. I always knew her mood based on the songs playing. She had tickets to the concert he was supposed to perform with Clapton before the helicopter crash. He followed in his brother Jimmy's (Fabulous Thunderbirds) footsteps and embraced the southern/blues/soul roots. He snuck into bars at 14 to hear and play with some of the greatest blues artists ever. Check out his performances with Jeff Healey and his adventures in Montreaux. The first time he was booed. The second appearance was magical.

Bro, I love it. I played keyboards in hip-hop groups growing up and shit, and when I was asked to play guitar, cause I played a little, then heard him I stopped playing for awhile. Then I dedicated a few weeks, then months, then it turned into years trying to play his style, picking up Albert, Jimi, and Clapton along the way, blew my mind how melodic this mkr was. Same as Jimi, I'm still in awe of how he was at my age and I've been playing since he passed

King The first time that Buddy Guy, quite possibly the greatest living blues guitarist, heard Stevie Ray Vaughan play, he couldn’t believe it. “He was hitting them notes and made me feel like I should go in the audience and watch so I could learn something,” Buddy Guy

Many times they will ask for their cooperation to keep it down while the actual song is being performed. Then they can react afterwards or at pauses... such as you see & hear during & at the end. Jimi played a right-handed guitar. He just switched the strings for a lefty..I went to school with a lefty player who played a righty guitar upside down like Jimi, but he never bothered to switched the strings..Just learned it that way!..Great guitarist, btw, by the name of "Guitar Pete" Brasino...Check him out, on here.

SRV's guitar aka first wife is the one of the most expensive guitars in the world. There is more blood, sweat, smoke and tears in that guitar. I wear it is proof of Stevie's greatness.

This was filmed for a TV show. The folks had to stay sitting down so they wouldn't block the camera angles. Legendary performance, like all of his.
