If you want to skip to arguably the greatest guitar performance ever recorded, that would be it. Always respect to the tons of amazing players and to each listener and what they like so in the end you may find your own favorite, but no doubt, if you want your mind blown into the next state or country, check the El Mocambo 'Texas Flood' Live - SRV is like opening a box of dozens and dozens of videos that will melt your face off, so welcome to this wonderful Universe! Make sure you pay attention here because SRV was recorded at a few different locations playing Texas Flood: LIVE AT THE EL MACAMBO is the version you want for an extra treat. "Bending"is the word you were looking for - bending the strings (stretching them to change the pitch of the note to get an off-key blues note). 'Liked your enthusiasm. Good job, brother.

SRV is not only the GOAT on guitar but just about the coolest person to ever walk the face of the earth. Get ready 'cause even though he died too young, he has an extensive catalog--all great. "Texas Flood" live at the El Mocambo is probably next on the list--then "Little Wing" from the same show--and then there is more.

Now is time to react to another two SRV epic live performances: "Texas Flood" ( Live at the El Mocambo), and "Life Without You" (Live at Capitol Theatre 9/21/1985). For other astonishing guitar solos check: 1. Lynyrd Skynyrd - "Freebird" (Live at Oakland Coliseum Stadium, 7/2/1977); 2. Rory Gallagher - "Shadow Play" (Live at Montreux" Music Festival in Switzerland 1979); 3. Deep Purple - "Child in Time" (Live on the British TV show "Doing Their Thing", 1970) - guitar solo by Ritchie Blackmore; 4. Thin Lizzy - "The Rocker" (Studio long version from the album "Vagabonds of the Western World") - guitar solo by Eric Bell; 5. Dire Straits - "Sultans of Swing" ("Love over Gold Tour", 1983 - "Alchemy" live album) - guitar solo by Mark Knopfler; 6. Ten Years After - "I Can't Keep from Crying" (Recorded Live: 8/4/1975 - Winterland - San Francisco, CA) - guitar solo by Alvin Lee; 7. Ted Nugent - "Great White Buffalo" (Full Bluntal Nugity Live); 8. Eagles - Hotel California (Live in Washington D.C, March 1977).

So glad to see SRVs music and performances living on with young people. I enjoyed your reaction! I was fortunate to experience SRV and DT perform 8 times before he passed. Always an amazing experience and it was a dark dark day in August 1990... As others have suggested Texas Flood at El Mocambo is a MUST. This performance was from an appearance on "Austin City Limits", a long-running music show on PBS. You've got Tommy Shannon on bass, and that's Chris Layton on drums. Chris is currently on tour with Kenny Wayne Shephard. Later, Reese Wynans was added to the band, on keyboards. Reese is with Joe Bonamassa now. You should check out Joe; another great blues guitarist.

SILAS, you need to watch “One Night In Texas 1989” on RU-vid, which is the show this performance is from. In October 1989 Stevie Ray Vaughan and his band, Double Trouble, were on the long running concert tv show Austin City Limits (Austin was also his hometown) and played several blistering songs. His concerts were usually over 2 hours, but the tv show was a half hour. The last song is “Voodoo Child”, but you’ll see from the start of the show that he was one of the all-time greats.

SRV is truly one of the greatest. a big rabbit hole to go down. Also, I've noticed it in the Led Zeppelin reactions which I'm about halfway through those, and then in this new one, it would be awesome if you could get the playback volume for the audio content of the performance up louder in relation to your microphone. In order to get the full effect of the music, I have to crank my volume all the way up but then it makes your voice in the microphone way too loud so I have to keep riding the volume up and down. Also, as a multi instrumentalist for years and years now, I highly encourage everyone to learn a musical instrument. And you mentioned guitar, but just watching you in these reactions including this one, you have such an intuitive feeling for what's happening with the bass and drums (even though like most reactors you don't really normally notice the bass when it's just doing its job - for example in this one, when the drummer is doing those amazing fills, if you listen, the bass is doing these upward runs high in its register before going way back down low to punch you in the gut for the next downbeat). And those are the only three layers in this one, but I just have a feeling you would really love to play drums. You would really dig it. I think another Stevie Ray Vaughan live video that would be awesome for you is the live version of Crossfire. In that he's got his larger band, with this organ and even some horns to go with these three primary layers, four if you include his voice. And that song just rocks, and it's got great lyrics too.

Been saying SRV is the ONE guitarist you NEED to react to - I had suggested Texas Flood at El Macambo but I'd actually say doing a few other songs from him like Mary had a little lamb before that because once you've been to the mountain top it's all downhill from there. IMO SRV doing Texas Flood live at El Macambo is the TOP of any guitar performance ever done.

This song was originally done by Jimi Hendrix, who is definitely an influence of Stevie's. You should check that out sometime. And if you check out Stevie's song Texas Flood, he does something with the guitar that will blow your mind. I don't want to spoil it, but trust me. Check out the El Macombo performance. I saw Stevie Ray live back in the day and he was playing that same guitar with his initials on it. Truly one of the greats, taken too soon, as was Hendrix.

Stevie started playing at age 7. Never learned to read music. His big brother Jimmie (Fabulous Thunderbirds) taught him a few things, but was mostly self-taught. Listened to mostly older blues artists, but loved Hendrix, hence several of Jimi's covers.

Of course, Stevie and David (Gilmour) have different styles, but are both extremely talented. Stevie is mainly a blues player and was heavily influenced by Hendrix. He even had one of Jimi's wah pedals. Also, David has one of Jimi's guitar straps given to him by his wife. All great guitarists highly admire Jimi Hendrix. This song is a Hendrix cover, and is actually Voodoo Child Slight Return. The long version of the song, Voodoo Chile, is on Jimi's album "Electric Ladyland." One of the best guitar shredders to ever walk the earth. Quite a trip if you got down the SRV rabbit hole, Silas! Like others here, I recommend his "Texas Flood" performance live at El Mocambo; you'll freak out, plus it's a longer song for more aural pleasure. Gotta give applause to SRV's combo, Double Trouble: Tommy Shannon (bass, played many years with another Texan guitar wunderkind, Johnny Winter, who you might want to look up), and Chris Layton on drums (still another Texan). Wonder who inherited Stevie's guitar(s) when he died; I certainly hope somebody who can play them well; and I also hope they're not sitting idle in somebody's closet or in some corner of a vacant studio. Anybody know? Hey Silas! You're pretty good at the "stank face," just like SRV!

"Stevie was an endless, open channel that music just poured out of. He made people who'd never touched a guitar in their life want to pick one up and start playing, and made those of us who'd played live onstage with him before want to quit"...........................Eric Clapton.

If you are liking what you are hearing, you should check out: Dirty Pool Live at Montreaux 1982; Tin Pan Alley Live at Montreaux 1985 with Johnny Copeland; Riviera Paradise, Mary Had a Little Lamb, Tightrope, Crossfire, Look at Little Sister, Couldn't Stand the Weather all Live at Austin 1989; Love Struck Baby, Ain't Gonna Give Up On Love Live at Daytona Beach 1987; Life Without You Live at Nashville 1987 ( a lot of people recommend the Capitol Theater version of this song, but after getting clean and sober the message in Nashville is closer to his heart).

The best guitar player or solo boils down to personal taste when comparing top notch players. Some of the most technically proficient and fast players, while extremely talented, simlply aren't my favorites. Stevie Ray is right up there with the best, no doubt. But David Gilmour's solos really touch my soul and move me.

It's art, man. What's better will often depend on how you feel in the moment. That's the cool thing about it.

I was lucky enough to see Stevie twice. Amazing performer! The intricate stuff largely becomes muscle memory, and if possible, it's better to stay relaxed when you're playing. When you tighten up, you don't move as naturally, and your rhythm gets off.

I just LOVE to watch young kids reacting to great music. You should check out him and Johnny Copeland playing Tin Pan Alley. Its a slower jam but SRV still shreds

If you want to hear the BEST guitar solo you HAVE to react to Stevie Ray Vaughan's Little Wing at El Mocambo. That is best piece of music I have ever heard in my life.

Stevie is using Jimi's wawa peddle here, the family gave it to him. SRV gets all the credit, but Tommy and Chris are in top form here as well.

Talk about strong hands, Chris is just amazing on the keys. He masters blues, jazz and yeah, gospel. Double Trouble is so great doing anything with SRV, and they each are perfect. And btw, any band that can support a guitarist like Stevie Ray deserves high praise.

@@claireburling8547 hard to believe, but it is possible to mess with perfection, because they got even better when they added Reese.
