Not sure if anyone will see this anymore, but to provide some history on this song....my old friend Mike Wilkerson wrote it. He played it for us at backyard BBQs and it was the crown jewel of his music career (where he would get occasional gigs and commercial voice overs). Mike sold the song rights to Lonnie Mack probably in the early 1980s. Mike died in 2019 of Parkinson's. God watch over his soul.
This is my cousin, Lonnie Mack aka Lonnie Mctintosh. Cousin, I love you! This song I've seen you do it many times live, but not like this with the MASTER. Stevie Ray, we miss you son!
How sweet! Lonnie Mack was an idol of Stevie’s. I’m so happy for you that you had memories with Mr. Mack. I’m an SRV fan (more than that - his music helped me and my kids through a difficult bunch of of years) I only today learned about the enormous influence Mr. Mack had on Stevie. I should have known. This video is beyond sweet. I am a full on SRV loyalist and I am trying to discover who influenced him (beyond Wikipedia and such nonsense) I know Lonnie Mack, but I never read about the connection. SRV idolized Ronnie Mack. I miss Stevie Ray Vaughan. As my kids called him, “Stevie Rayon.” We also listened and sand to Ella Fitzgerald. They called her “Elephant Gerald.” Stevie Rayon and Elephant Gerald got my girls and I through very rough times. Thank you, Mr. Mack, for being such a huge influence on the magic that was and is Stevie Ray Vaughan. Forever indebted to you for inspiring this amazing human being. Thank you.
Sherry Baker, I guess that would mean you are also familiar with Lonnie's brother Billy Mack? I got to know Billy and play guitars with him in the last years of his life before he sadly passed on. Billy told me some great stories about Lonnie and also a little about Stevie. i remember him telling me that he wrote (or co-wrote) this particular song Oreo Cookie Blues. I am a bit of a music history student, self taught, and Billy seems to have managed to be nearly impossible to dig up any information on Billy Mack during my internet searching. according to his stories, all these other very famous guitarists like Eric Clapton and Jimmy Paige and Jeff Beck all were influenced by Lonnie Mack and i want to connect these dots. did no one ever record a video with the Lonnie and Billy playing together? i feel like it is a mystery i am trying to unravel the threads so i can connect the dots. i don't really care about the fame part, i want to see them playing the guitars and watch the fingers!!
Hello Sherry, I notice that you made your comment 7 years ago, before your cousin died. I want to send my condolences to you about your cousin passing away a couple of years later.
Oreo cookies are religion to Lonnie's taste buds. Lonnie is the kind to offer you a few as well. He is the absolute host and treats his opening acts with total respect and happy to jam with anyone he shares the evening with. His wife carole will be in the audience and invite guests back stage and everybody gets a shout out for making him the man he is. very humble...
You can just feel thru the music how much srv just adored Mack and that big ol smile while playing such a fun and light natured song before a live audience.
really nice to see stevie ray play an acoustic guitar, he was a true gentleman & you know he is elated to play with one of his idols. his smile exudes the "I'm not worthy".his sense of what came before him is what made his success become possible. as the old bluegrass song goes, "don't get above your raisin' & he never did" I especially liked his duet with dick dale on pipeline in the back to the beach movie. Lonnie played my favorite bass lines ever on the doors classic "Roadhouse Blues" rip to 2 music legends 🎸🎸
"Why don't we do this? Why don't we play the song and then we'll turn the guitars off and then ya can do something non related" Lonnie Mack RIP SRV and LM
How did this silly song become punch me in the gut blues? Flat out inspired guitar picking; these two powerfully fuel each other’s masterful performance - Just wow! #GetmesomeOreos
Adrian Avila ...i have done more things to see stevie live and alive than you can ever imagine...i dont have posters...i have him and his music in my soul....but....its ok you are a good fan too...i believe you pal!!
θοδωρης μετζελος Awesome, wish I was around in his time to have seen him live and definitely wish he was still here. Cause then I'd be going to his shows when he he'd play here. I've got 4 posters , My dad saw him here in Utah at the old fair grounds Oct 9, 1985.
Just think about it ! A blues song about Oreo Cookie Addiction ! Can't get crazier, can it ?? But with Lonnie and Stevie playing, it works. It just works !! Thank you, both.
Thank You For This One! Beautiful Blues In An Historic Place. Played By Two Blues Legends!! Both Of Whom, I Have Had, The Pleasure Of Seeing Play Their Blues!! Rest In Peace Stevie May God Bless You And May God Bless Mr. Lonnie Mack!!
wow thats crazy! as im sure you know stevie grew up listening to lonnie and the things he took from lonnie were a huge part of that thing that made stevie, stevie. when he played the slow stuff it was all albert, freddie and buddy were there in the mid tempos and shuffles, but when he played the stuff as his brother would say "like he was breaking out of jail" it was all lonnie mack! and "falling back in love with you" and "stop" are clear demonstrations of the hugeness of his talent
Man, what an awesome, relatable song by two great players. Now I need to write one called Crawfish Jambalaya Blues with more of a Bryan Lee Louisiana Swamp Blues vibe.
Just when I think I've seen every bit of video of SRV that exists! And certainly heard every one of his rare acoustic performances. Well, maybe now I have. [4 minutes later] OMG! He's playing acoustic with a slide! This has to be the only example of that!
Lonnie Mack… The one and ONLY man that would make Stevie look like the student when sharing the stage with him… Lonnie Mack was the greatest of his generation.. Hendrix/Winter? They had nothing Lonnie Mack.
Damn them Oreo cookies!!!.. More addictive than cocaine!!..only a few days in the new year to lose a few pds. And ALREADY got them, " Oreo cookie blues!😩
I used to cover this song as a duo with a partner that was a former guitarist for Bob Seegar. This was the early 90's . just found out this year it was a Lonnie Mack song. It was always well received. I played the slide part.
Truly rare. This is the first time I think I've seen Stevie play slide at all. He's really working it, too, sounds really oldschool and passionate. RIP for these two great musicians. Gone too soon.
