Stick ‘Em Up! is a captivating film that explores the little-known world of wheat pasting, an inner-city art form that’s as provocative as it is misunderstood. Documentary filmmaker Alex Luster delves into the minds and motivations behind some of Houston’s most notorious guerilla street artists, capturing the lifespan of their art… conception, creation, placement and - ultimately - removal by the city’s abatement enforcement. With commentary by legendary street artists and top local law enforcement officials, Stick ’Em Up! is a gritty, street-smart documentary that reveals the secret truth behind the prolific images you see every day - in cities nationwide.
Stick ‘Em Up! was created by talented Houston artists. A two-decade veteran of the Houston street art scene, GONZO247 worked as a Stick ‘Em Up! producer and award-winning screenwriter Tony Reyes helped craft the story. Artists interviewed in the film include Give Up, Shepard Fairey, DUAL, Eyesore, Cutthroat and Bomit.
Stick ‘Em Up! is presented by Shoot. Edit. Sleep. & Stone Kanyon Productions in collaboration with Aerosol Warfare.

Expressing ourselves artistically is within our DNA. As humans, we've been doing this type of artistic expression since the dawn of time. We will not stop. We cannot stop. The more our art gets taken down, the stronger our drive is to get more up. Can't wait to see everyone's slaps, tags, n' pastes! Keep creating!

Me encantaria hacer paste up. Me habia rendido con RU-vid, pero en crisis economica RU-vid puede ayudar. Voy a seguir mi canal, despues de ver este film, necesito hacerlo. Thank's Alex and all activist, artis and the lady. 👏👏👏👏👏👏

That councilman was quick to associate gang destruction with wheat pasting, and come up with a bunch of excuses of why its wrong. These suits are the kids who got their wings clipped young. The cops do have better things to do, and being in a graffiti crew is way different than street art, they know that.. they just want to play up this whole criminal activity angle to sway squares like them.

I like watching these documentaries but the weakest part is when the artists try to justify their actions. Sure, graffiti is not as bad as violent crimes. It also needs to be illegal because people have a right to decide what goes on their property, and in doing so have to shoulder the costs of removing this stuff. I think it would be refreshing if an artist just admitted he didn't actually care about other people, and that his urge to make his mark on the city is not fundamentally different than dogs pissing on trees.

@Carthodon what's weak is being a bootlicker. Public property being painted on which happens more than private property isn't bothering anyone and usually adds to the ascetic of the area its in. People love graffiti and street art way more than bare walls, people who aren't bland anyways. Some of the most visited cities, packed with graffiti. Guess you have to be boring to go with that whole "it's still illegal and you're not an artist" route.

@@BENZYuno Some of this clearly isn't art. When someone is pasting the same thing over and over, and when those posters are just photoshopped images that someone else made, and he clearly indicates he doesn't care about taking their work either, you get someone who fell into a pattern. I don't actually think tags makes the city look nicer, and I think most people think the same thing. That they look horrible. For the most part, anyone who feels a need to write the same thing again and again across a city has an obsession, and if that thing is their name then they're a narcissist which is what most of this is. When someone has to caveat things like "People love graffiti and street art way more than bare walls, people who aren't bland anyways", you've found a justification for actions by just saying that anyone who disagrees with you has an opinion that doesn't matter. Again, this is narcissism. Society gets a whole lot more unpleasant, especially for you, if everyone became like this.

A lot of the artists I filmed used different mixtures, but the go-to was usually wallpaper adhesive. It comes as a powder, and you just mix it with water.

loved the movie and everything but mannnn.... what they do isnt something super badass as they show or say sometimes, i do graffiti and love watching it, soo compared to this its just childsplay, not saying what there doing is ugly or anythingg, love the style, the way they do it, the way they think of it and all their stuff in general, but putting 4 pieces of paper in an abandoned wall with some cars pasing by isnt that much of a big deal. Loved the vid, keep it going !!

These 'artists' are cringe inducing boys in their 20's (or older...) who never got over their teen angst and rebellious stage. The documentary brilliantly captures the man-child/peter pan syndrome in full display. Thinking everything in the world is terrible all the time, yet they are so different from everyone else. They have got it all figured out and they're trying to spread their 'brilliant, thought-provoking, powerful, etc. etc.' message out to the people to 'wake them up.' Guys...being edgy stopped being cool in high school. Vandalizing your community with your shitty Photoshop graphics of stolen images (since many of these 'artists' can't draw to save their lives) isn't fixing anything. Other than that, loved the documentary. It did what it had to do which is starting a conversation and investigating a subculture no one really knows about.

I've been pasting up right in front of a LA restaurant picture window full of buttoned up customers such as yourself that were doing nothing but looking at their phones the whole time. Get out of the matrix and learn to live a little.

I dont think you can say that simply by watching a documentary, you really don't know them all and what there motivation really is, maybe for some but people are different and besides that criticizing is easy, creating takes an effort.
