Don't blame Gary Howe, he's not the one who took a perfectly street able (and restorable) 265-inch, 4-speed 1955 Chevy off of the street and converted it to the drag strip. He said it was the same passion for the classics which inspired him to purchase the car and maintain its original purpose as a stick-shifted Super Stocker. Tune in as Gary tells his story, and the classic shoebox sings a high-winding melody of horsepower.

Love to see an older gentleman like myself who can still shift as fast as a youngster!! Brings back Memories of my 55 2 door Sedan with A301 And 2 4 barrels. It was always exciting to shift that car as fast as I could.

I really like it when the front end comes up like that. a nice show for the people there. As a kid, my dad was bracket racing and every week these two 55-57 Chevys would race against each other. both left wheels up. one was Maroon/red color and called Wild cherry and the other was yellow and called the Hairy Canary. Sure made me smile as a small kid.

Just love these old cars I bought one back in2012 and I drove it till 2015 then decided to restore it I'm in my 5th year of restoration hopefully I will get it done this year nice ride I miss the perma-smile I get when I drive . Nothing like a good old 4 speed shoebox love it keep building and racing the old shoe box.

That is awesome you get that HP out of the 265 V8! I had a 56 bel air that had a 265 V8 (had a continental kit on back, w/ skirts) and that car's engine was powerful, just stock!

Now that's a hot rod!!! I raced a Chevy 2 and it pulled the wheels even higher but that camera in the back really makes it look incredible. Love your car and who knows maybe one day if you come to Dallas we'll race each other. Would be an absolute blast!!!

Super cool but what if.... you built a vintage style C/MP motor that has basically no rules except cubic inch like a 302 with a HUGE roller cam best cylinder heads and a tunnel ram for those vintage Modified Production classes. Love your 55

There was a Super Stock racer in Houston that ran a 55 Chevy that was once a Texas Highway Department of Public Safety patrol car. He left is painted in that scheme. He won his class most of the time. It would leave hard on the wheelie bars.

Love 5-5's. Bought a 55 2 door post car back in early 67. Last motor was a 500+hp 331 ci Corvette motor with a ton of aftermarket components, Pontiac Muncie 4 speed and posi 4.11's for the street (4.88's strip). Ran best in the quarter of 11.96 at 114+mph in '69. Car painted 69 Caddy Sapphire Mist blue ! Had a lot of fun with this car on the street for a number of years but sold it in '70. Big Mistake ! Been sorry ever since !

@@brianjacobsen5762 My favorite is the 57 Bel Air, but the 55 and 56 are still beautiful cars, I'd like to own one of each if I could afford all 3 of them. The other rare one that I do really like is the 58 Impala if you can find one that's for sale at a decent price I saw a few of them for sale but they were all close to $100,000.

@@crazycanuck2578 my brother in law had 58. I just think the 56. Without the front bumper looks bitchen. Years ago I bought 59 Oldsmobile 2 door bubble top. It ran but was rust bucket. 100.00 what I paid. Lost it for not paying traffic tickets.

Forgot to tell you this. The airport scene in American Graffiti. There's 55 gold nomad with green rims. parked with bunch other cars.That was my dad's best friends nomad. I rode in it all the time when I was a kid.

The stroke is so short it doesn,t stress the block too much. I had a 283 60 over that left at 9500.

I have been in buddies 55/265 and swore he was going to blow it up, revving that high, rarely had tachs to know but, seemed extreme and didn't blow.

People can't and don't believe me when I tell them my little 327 screams to 11,000rpm before the valves start to float , Then they throw out a number like 8500 that theirs will do and I just Laugh

Little engine revs like hell but no torque and down on horsepower but still has to be a ball to drive and it's far from a stock 265

joe - In this particular classification, the cars must run engines close to watch came from the factory. That’s why they just don’t put a 454 or any other big block in there

Ever heard of cap walk? He would have to have a serious main girdle. Im pretty certain this guy is playing the fact that it's 265ci maybe... More like a 66' 327 4 bolt main block. Something like Jenkins would run in his pro stock vaga in 73-74
