Welcome back everybody on another adventure with me. I am thankful to have you all here and I hope you guys enjoyed this one. As always, I will encourage you to comment and give your thoughts and opinions throughout the video, feel free to correct me if I said something wrong. Otherwise thank you so much for being here and I hope you have a beautiful day
Edit;, ladies and gentleman, a quick correction When I was talking about the 737 Cowling incident, I mentioned the material of the cowling for that particular engine. A quick correction that particular cowling on CFM 56-7B is mostly made of aluminum. Sorry about that.
Also a quick side note in regard to when I was talking about the MCAS issue and the 737 max. I’m by no means blaming the pilots. I still put the blame on Boeing. My point was that I think (fyi my opinion) that it could have been prevented. That is all. So please don’t get upset at me for speaking my mind and having an opinion. I’m simply explaining how the aircraft works and what it’s capable of. That is all.

Edit: ladies and gentlemen, a quick correction on a portion of this video when I was talking about the southwest fan Cowling incident. I mentioned the material the cowling is made of on that particular engine, which is the CFM 56-7B. The corrective statement is that the fan Cowling is made out of aluminum material. My apologies on this. Also a quick side note in regards to when I was talking about the MCAS issue and the 737 max. I’m by no means blaming the pilots. I still put the blame on Boeing. My point was that I think (fyi my opinion) that it could have been prevented. That is all. So please don’t get upset at me for speaking my mind and having an opinion. 17:07 "... you need people that are proficient in operating that machine ... they need to know what they're doing" You're probably representing a common sentiment in your industry, aiming for balance and nuance against the very strong repeat criticism of Boeing. Often times public criticism is uninformed and absurd. But, sorry, in my opinion in this case, you're apportioning excessive criticism & responsibility for the two 737 disasters on the pilots. Pilot training and a runaway stab trim procedure were not adequate to recover with undisclosed MCAS as it was implemented then -- non-redundant input from one alpha vane, high horizontal stab authority, and repeat pitch down commands at unknown intervals. That version of MCAS was very crude. Test pilots with inside engineering knowledge would have a fair chance, but that is too demanding for above average line pilots. My opinion. You're entitled to your opinion, and also recognizing you know more than almost everyone.

@@collectorguy3919 i deeply appreciate you for your thoughts and intellectual response. If I sounded overly critical, I just want to say that it wasn’t my intention. Thank you once again for your comment.
@renefuller9241
@renefuller9241 6 дней назад
@@collectorguy3919 Stig is right, Boeing chose not to add that detail to the Manual. I did hear one of the tapes, the copilot did turn off the stab trim, but it was too late, and the pilots could not recover the aircraft. Stig mentioned that fact in his comment. The other issue was Boeing relying on one sensor only. That was and is against any and all engineering rules for aircraft design. (Even the automobile industry relies on redundancy). The third issue was Boeing outsourcing the code to India. Aerospace Software Engineers would have instantly recognized the danger of that situation and not have released the code. Saving pennies to spend billions... I hope that culture of bean-counting changes very soon. Passengers, crew and operators don't give a flying fart about investors and shareholders when the plane falls apart at 16000 feet. Boeing shouldn't either.

Haha. Heard that years ago. Not funny for the swimmers tho. Gotta look at stat's and see how many times it's happened. Ditching survival rates not hi tho people have done it if conditions are right. Lotta luck. Strong wind parallel to wave crests (rare), slow the plane way down. Lotta Iuck is really what it is. We used to get ditch headings all the time in USCG Pac Basin Sar back in the day. STIG-you said something in the middle about taking pride in your work as you reflected on an aircraft just departing LAX with a loved one onboard! What makes you so special is that you went onto say that everyone onboard my as well be your brother or sister...THAT is the dedication that you put into the job. BRAVO-and I am so PROUD of you STIG to TELL US!! Thank you as a flying member of this community - I feel safer because of YOU. And between you and I and a couple thousand friends - pass this attitude onto all your other mechanics in ALL airlines please! Thanks for the shows - I love them.

Love all of the videos and all that you and your fellow mechanics do to keep the birds safe and up in the air! Seeing that 787 APU door open had me doing a flashback to when I was on a cleaning crew for a 767. We used air stairs on the R4 door. It was in the winter time, blowing snow, really high winds. A crew member of mines hat got blown off and almost went into the inlet. Needless to say, we never used that side any more after that.😂

Another great video. I have to tell you Stig I had a couple firsts in my life recently. I was able to ride in a Platus pc-12 from moses lake to Boeing field Seattle, approx 200mi and only took 40min from wheels up to wheels down. By far the fastest and loundest single engine I've ever been in. Then once at Boeing I was able to be on the tarmac around allot of jumbo's. They look big on video but when I was on the ground by them they are gigantic, even more so then when your in them. It's so much to take in, an experience I'll never forget. You get to do that on a daily basis and now I have even a better understanding why you love your career so much. 😊

I specialize in cabin lighting systems for most of the fleets that my airline operates, and I was wondering if you could show what your cabin colors look like for the BSI fleets (OEM on later 737NGs and all MAXs). If you have the time, of course. Anyways, love your stuff and your attitude. I have been really happy to meet so many people in the industry that share your interest and enthusiasm.

Aww, the GEnx on your 787(s) are already losing their beautiful metallic blue color on their cones after working everyday. It doesn't affect anything, but I love seeing them 😆 Stig, you know how on 787, the dimmable windows are locked during take off/landing. So the passengers can't dim them. Is the control for that also on the Flight attendant control panel? I used to think the Pilots are the one who locked them 😂
@StigAviation
@StigAviation 10 дней назад
Yes, the control for that is on the flight attendance panel, they can control all of the windows and lock them out.

Stig, you’ve been an inspiration to me as a newly licensed AME waiting for his first airplane 777 endorsement. Keep it up the good work and video! The 777 is the best airplane I’ve ever worked on in my career. It’s like a big puppy that doesn’t give you lots of trouble ❤

My daughter just told me she reached out to you for her senior project in high school and you responded very quickly. Thank you for doing that!! We both watch your videos. She is highly interested and will be applying at Chaffey College for their AMT program in the fall. I would be super proud of her once she completes their program. She is interested in working for a major carrier at LAX.

My favourite time of the week. Stig-time! Ah yes, the good old microfiche reader. Try carrying that on your hip. My eyes became misty when you said what you said on family and flying, and dedication to maintenance. Of my many hats I used to do emergency vehicle electronics and electrics. People asked why I was so particular about it. My answer is that someone's life may depend on it... Cheers

The problem with the stab trim cutoff is that before you could disengage the autopilot control but still maintain electric control. In the 737 MAX it's all or nothing. If you don't catch it in time the electric trim of previous aircraft you let you put it back into trim. On the MAX you're in trouble trying to crank things manually.
@StigAviation
@StigAviation 8 дней назад
You’re absolutely correct, the pitch trim will continuously keep going nose down at intervals if the cutout switches are not engaged. So it was about the timing and reaction. One of the fixes for this was to not have it continuously go down, now it will pitch nose down once and stop and allow the pilots to recover.

Respect to Stig telling us your opinion and mentioning that the the 737 max accidents could have also been prevented by pilots , even with Boeing making bad decisions, and I'm of the same opinion.

Excellent stuff! I feel more confident you having experience in a range of aircraft. If you know the difference between them, then you are good to go. ;) Flying the thing is a matter of trust in ones' own capabilities; not so much engineering? One would normally assume that, that,said process had been completed. It is so cool how many views of the world are out there. Here we are sharing them. Real time. I dreamed of this when I was a kid raised on radio. Then there was TV.

our maxes actually have a lever that sticks out of the oil access so you can't close it when its unlatched, also bright orange inside nice and easy to see on walk around!
@StigAviation

Since the max aircraft are equipped with the leap engine, they incorporated a similar design. CFM did a good job with that.

That ETOPS endurance for the A350 is insane! I couldn't imagine being single engine over an ocean for multiple hours. I would be a basket case. I have always been and always will be, far more comfortable on ocean crossings in a 4-engine bird. One of these days a 2 engine widebody is going to run out of engines at the exact wrong time.
