You'll over heat the saw if using the winter setting in the summer. It's meant to allow warm air off the cylinder fins to be sucked into the carburetor to prevent icing..

@@GrowLLLTigeRRR Wow. My point is the saw doesn't give a fu*k about the calander year of "winter" rather temperatures related to running conditions. Stihl recommends running it on winter shutter setting to prevent carb icing. That won't occur in most of the southern US, even if it's December 29th. And just because a guy has a jacket on doesn't mean this either. Ours run fine until single digits above 0f before we close them off to keep fine snow powder out... with or without a "winter jacket" on 🤣

@norton5.037 Год назад
@@GrowLLLTigeRRR you must be pretty damn dense in the head lol. Open your eyes and you can see he's wearing a skimpy button up jacket meaning it's not very cold. If you can get by with wearing that little it's not winter and you better be running in summer mode on the saw

I have used this fuel can and this saw for 3-4 years and just love them. The 462 displacement of 72cc is perfect for a fast, powerful saw, bar size options and physically not to heavy to handle all day… it’s a keeper! We don’t fell for timber, just clearance and firewood, so I don’t need to get very low for a cut so I put the Stihl double loop handle on it and makes manoeuvring it from both sides very easy. Recommended.

Whenever I have a new bar and/or chain, or when I have had em apart for cleaning, it's always good to pour a little oil right out on the bar flat and let the chain bring it around the bar... then the oiler will catch right up. Good Review!

You can it is an m tronic after al that self adjusts to temp, altitude, etc…. But I run saws daily in NC and it does get cold enough to actually put it in the winter mode during coldest months, all it does is put the hole of that shutter in a position to allow warm air off of the motor to be pulled into the carb for better performance and close it off during hot months so as to not over heat the motor

I have an ms250. Great saw. Then I bought a house with a lot of big (up to 30in or so) oaks that are too close to the house. I figured out real quick that the 250 wasn’t enough saw. Paid over $1100 for a 462. No regrets. Power to spare.

@Bobcat85-yl8oo do a muffler mod and rejet the carb on that 391, theres more power available I was about to buy a bigger saw until I modded my MS390. It rips and grunts right through oak so well I can't even tell when the chain is starting to go dull now I was about to port it also but.....no need, its that much better modded than when stock. However, surprisingly my saw weighs about 16 lbs so this new 462 being 3 lbs lighter is quite impressive

Others on my crew have used it and have been so impressed with it they are getting one themselves. I run a 24" bar most of the time and the balance is perfect. I can run it all day without getting tired. I want to try the 32" bar too but haven't needed it yet.

When I saw the video title I immediately thought: "$1100? This must be a few years old, they want more than that for a used one now." $1,435 out the door now for an MS462 with 25" standard bar at the local Stihl dealer near me ☹ On the plus side, you can get into a Husky 572xp for under $1,000 and it's a smoother saw with better balance. Don't get me wrong, I think Stihl makes great saws, but the prices are turning them into a luxury boutique brand.

You’re pretty well spot on with that price currently. About a month and half ago I paid $1516.62 out the door. That was with a 3/4 wrap handle, dual oversized felling dawgs, and a 28” ES Light bar. I’d do it again without hesitation though… she’s pretty sexy lookin’ and performs even better.

Just a couple tips josh that everyone should know for safety and the other for longevity of the saw. When you first start ANY saw you should always let it slow idle for a min or so b4 putting it under full throttle. Bad for the motor if people don't over time. A safety tip for everyone, the chain break is by your hand for a reason right, after every cut you should get in the habit of hitting it with your wrist to stop the chain. Great habit to get into. Some saws you will notice even not under full throttle the chain will free spin if not adjusted properly. Well just that chain turning even under idle speed, if it hits your body ANYWHERE, its gonna lay you open or even take off a finger. Hope these few tips help everyone out. Safe cutting to all in the field. Nice saw btw. One of my biggest saws is a ms660 with a 5ft bar. Go big or go home right bud😂😂

You use the open position in winter. It then shoots warm air to the air filter. It hurts the power if you use it and it is not freezing out. It is designed to stop carb freeze up. Cold air gives more power because it has more oxygen if you keep it closed up. Big temperature changes or altitude changes can require a reset of the M tronic system.

The end of the bar and the drive sprocket will be the same distance from on another no matter if you lift the bar or you don't....there is no difference in the distance from tip to drive sprocket...that distance is constant unless you adjust the screw

Watching your channel I am considering getting an electric chainsaw. Yes I know gas chainsaw is more powerful but I wont be doing any bigger trees like that oak and I am female and the pull start is more designed for man power pull. That's not sexist, just facts. I have been looking at several different cordless once and was wondering if you have any recommendations? The blades seems so short on the once I have seen.

He just made a video on the Toro battery powered chainsaw. Personally never used it but I did mess with it when I was at Lowes. Its well enough to keep handy for yard clean up or worst case a limb/tree blocking a drive way. There are a few different models if you need some budget flexibility. Check out his battery powered saw videos and you might see one that works for you. I'm not salesman lol just a friend of the channel and I see no one has answered your question yet. No matter the saw don't skip on safety gear, safety glasses, gloves and hearing protection at a very minimum imo.

@@jaredkean7841 Yeah I know well enough to stay safe :) thank you for the concern and the answer! I have been looking at one but the blade is only 9 inches. It says it can handle small to medium trees but honestly look more like it would be suitable for pruning. So would a 9 inch blade be enough of do I benefit any from taking it up to 13 inches?

@@MetaMorphea I can't really answer that for you, but in my opinion I'd rather have the longer bar and not need it then need it and not have it. But what will or won't work for you-- I couldn't even begin to estimate. Is the longer bar worth the extra cost, only your budget can answer that.

We have an Ego Powerplus with a 16 inch bar. It’s a great machine. Ego recently released a chainsaw with an 18 inch bar. It’s chain moves faster too.

Get an electric Sthil that has at minimum 16” bar you won’t be disappointed

Great review Josh. As much as I love watching all of these videos and reviews on the super saws, I will not ever be able to justify that kind of money for what I do. Very nice.

I can't justify owning this size saw either but give me time and I'll come up with something. These saplings are getting larger every year !🤣😂

Cool Tool Tuesdays is where I learn the most. Thank you Josh. Question: would you recommend a short women use this saw? Does it come with an "in use" chain guard? I'd worry about it kicking back at me.

I wouldn't recommend anyone who couldn't carry a 100lb weight 200 yards run this saw...this is a big saw...it was hard on my arms and back after 10 mins of use

@@StoneyRidgeFarmer How much lighter would a MS 362 be ? Is the 462 really that heavy ?

0. The side of your bar gives the length of bar and tells the chain size needed.

I know this is a Stihl Chainsaw review video and everyone knows Stihl is without question the TOP of the line chainsaw. BUT I have watched a lot of your videos and I know you also use other chainsaws. I cut only about 5 average size trees per year and a stihl chainsaw seems Pricey for my needs. what is your opinion on the Holzfforma Chainsaw for just the average user?? And Happy New Year!

Well I don't have alot of trees but my neighbor has them and she won't cut them back and it causes twice a year us being without electric and sadly I've gone thru a freezer full of meat each time. I'd like to see them trees gone forever .humm . Guess I'd better be nice..... lol

Love that gas can I’ve had it for about 5 years best ever. Also I have a ms 250 and a ms661I have a land clearing business and over the last month I’ve cut down 43 large willow cotton wood trees my big saw just eats it up like butter . Once that saw breaks in it will get faster and faster , also I poor a lil bar oil down the bar every morning or after sharpening refueling just to get it lubed real good work great ! I’m looking to buy a 462 or a 461 I know the US Forestry service all use STHIL 461 and wild land firemen they are the only approved saw . Not sure though what’s the diff between 461 , 462 great video thx Josh
