Today I cover common problems and things to look for if you are buying a used blower. Both blower are great blowers but do have a few issues. Thanks for watching.
I was looking for a lightweight blower for my deck. ru-vid.comUgkxgioZQl3J5wPGAeDINzbieKbT5qomSEx3 There are some huge trees around my house and the leaves and pods drop all over my deck. Having to move furniture around to sweep has become too big a chore. This blower was the answer. It is light enough for this 70yr old lady and powerful enough to blow all the tree droppings off my rather large deck. Thank you B&D. Be aware the cord is not included. I use a 3 prong outdoor cord 25' cord for my 12' x 20' deck. The cord retainer works very well, but don't try to pass the plug through it. That is NOT how it works. You just have to loop the cord and it works great. One of my best purchases. Very happy.
Very good instruction, especially air speed and its use versus air volume. I am not a mechanic, but you have given me some things to watch for, even as an operator.
@@chuckmarriner3338 if it runs like mine it will serve you well. Run Stihl synthetic oil and premium fuel mixed at 50:1 and she’ll blow for a long time!
I have a 600 with 2500hrs and a 700 with 1200. New solid state coil on the 600 because a bushingl from the pull start mount from the last person that took it apart got wedged in and out of the magneto/coil.
I got a junk br600 that had a seized wrist pin, surprisingly I was able to get it free and running, even with a destroyed piston it still had decent compression and full power.
Nice vid ty. I have an issue if you've ever come across it. I run my br600 and fuel is all over the place. On the carb body right under the High Low screws there is a pin hole spraying out fuel, almost hidden(so took me awhile to find problem). Ever see this? new carb time?
Mine currently is that it’s not starting. When I pull the tensioner to start it. There’s no tension when I pull the recoil rope . I pulled it off to inspect the rope and it seems fine (pulling wise) and spark plug, connectors and the two cylinders seem fine and I use 1:1 so my thought is something to do with the flywheel? (What the recoil rope is attached to) but idk it just won’t start even though it was working earlier
I just had my new br600 I bought in October die on me today and the pull chord seized. Dropped it off where I bought it and have to wait until next week to find out the problem
What about the opposite of the seizing problem, where the wrist pin bushing (instead of a needle bearing like on smaller engine models) gets loose and the piston starts knocking and galling the cylinder?
I’ve never seen one get loose from just ware. Usually what happens is the wrist pin will start to seize and loosen up causing damage to the piston and it starts knocking.
Dude ur videos are amazing I build performance 212 engines from harbor freight they start off from 6.5 Hp are stage 3 makes 16.5 then when u start dump rton of money we got one dynoed making 41 hp running methonal nitro mix So I build those for all mini bikes go karts and I advertise all small engine in Long Island area And ur videos have shown some key stuff that I didt realize that I just though was grease but ur showing head gasket failer didt realize 1 question I bought personal 9010 h echo Used all last year for my 1 house and been a year still runs great but I was looking at high speed needle Looks like there special screw driver to adjust high speed Do u know the part number for that or were I can get it It’s not like rednax or husky flat head Thanks keep up good work really look forward to ur videos
Thank you! Nitro fixes everything lol. Echo’s use a Micro D or Baby D adjustment tool. I use the Proline Micro D 91059L. Just do a general search and you’ll find them. Try to adjust the low side (top of the carb) first, those carbs usually don’t respond to high side adjustments.
@@wallysworkin823lol definitely doooosee lol It sold from vp fuel 50-50 mix methonal nitro I can not find pure nitro to mix it my self so stupid thank u for all the info Appreciate leting me know Before I even tried probably hold off on doing it then because worksss mint just me be crazy lol got to touch everything Have u use amsoil dominator For the 9010 I just figure because it was high performance blower maybe use the best stuff the only thing I read is had no fuel stabilizer in in it but I’m very carfuel and would change fuel in mouth before I had it ever go bad I know lot of people use echo power bled or the red 1 like I said I’m crazy wanna use the absolute best even though if I had to fix it I could FYI I’m not landscaper just have 1 house lol 😂 so hours on thing are nothing Wat ur thought
That 600 was older, used for light commercial. Recommendations are tough, they all have some kind of issue. If I had to pick my top 3 it would be, 1. Echo PB770 2. Redmax EBZ7500 3. Br600.
My husband bought 2 stilh blowers 600 br New one star making a weird noise loose power then turn off didnt turn on again we took it to the store they gave us a New one the 5 months later the other blower start doing the same we use the right oíl the right measurment any advice what can be causing this
Could be a few things. Make sure the oil/fuel mix is correct. Carburetor may need to be replaced. If the unit is older it could be having valve or compression issues causing excessive “spit back” into the intake.
I have one 600? Runs idles rev-up ok for 5 seconds or so then run lean and actually stop. Other thing has so much compression need to get on compression stroke hold it down pull massive compression. Did adj high speed to no avail fuel delivery issue?
You need to check your valve adjustment. The cam gear has a compression release so if the valves are out of adjustment it will not operate properly. The other issue could be fuel delivery, check the filter or filters also inspect the tank vent.
Whats the opinion on putting the 450 tip on the 700? I run nothing but 50:1 orange sthil oil with non ethanol with the occasional splash of marvel mystery oil in the blowers gas tank. Seems to keep it clean and i like to think help that wrist pin with some additional lubrication.
I got a new br600 in box still. Probably won’t open until summer. Do you think 50:1 mix is good or should I run a little richer like 40:1. Just going to be used for my home use not commercial.
Hi I have the BR600 and it keeps running for a little while after I hit the kill switch sort of splutters cuts out and then runs on a bit do you know why?
Hi, thanks for the video. Do the fly wheels ever go bad? I have a br700 that won't start at all. It doesn't even attempt to fire. I replaced the coil and spark plug and still no dice. Any ideas?
Great video exactly spot on. I rebuilt mine 2 years ago and the other day the crank pan split I noticed one of the bearings making a little noise but other than that everything else was fine what do you think? It gets ran 5-6 days a week I only run stihl oil
How does BR500 compare to 600? I have the 500-model, same "issues" to watch over as with 600? Do you bother with 1% fuel or just go with 2%? Thanks in advance.
For the most part it’s all the same for the 500. However I don’t see as many loose engine pans, most likely due to the lower engine RPM they operate at. 2% is normal but if you are running high quality oil 1% works well to.
Ever had one that bogs above half throttle? Doesn't happen when cold. Replaced plug, coil, carb and fuel filter. Spark plug looks pretty rich, thinking a sticky valve??
@@wallysworkin823 It turned out to be the coil air gap. Skipped right over that in my process of elimination. Customer changed the coil before bringing it to me 😆
when i say told by stihl.. it was email from higher up on the totem pole...not the one of the local dealers or one of their kids in the shop... they had no clue at all about the product or the proceedure when we had them order it! we were able to get it at that time but it was not being produced anymore.
Mine is great, but I'm getting shocked at the throttle. Somehow the spark is running down into the trigger while using it. Can't find anything about that, I'm thinking a new cable?
Hello Wally You suggested the br200 or 450 What about the 600 will it last as long as the 450? It’s June 2024 Will the new version on the br600 last? I am a home owner that likes a light powerful blower but I want one that will last. I like the moto mix and always use it in everything I own. Kawasaki trimmer BG 86c HS 56c Would like you professional opinion please. Thanks Joseph Smith
The new version of the 600 should last you years. If you buy one ask the dealer for the extended warranty in case of further issues. So far the new version has been holding up great.
How can I check the rpm’s on my 700? Cranks Good and idles good, seems like it is holding back. Purchased from a friend that now has a lawn service. Thanks
@@wallysworkin823 Yep,ignition coil is heating up,part is over 100,dealer is hitting me for 300 adjust valves and new coil with labor.Almost the price of a new blower just for a dam coil.crazy how much stuff cost these days.
I have a BR600, it runs fine except recently as I'm using it it will suddenly loos power and shut off, usually when it idles down a bit. It starts right back up fine again but does the same after awhile. It will run well for several minutes or more before doing this again. Otherwise seems to have full power. I am getting a new air filter and fuel filter, maybe that will help. Any ideas of what could be causing this??
See how it runs with the new fuel filter, it may just need a carb adjustment also. If you don’t use it on a regular basis it may need a carb overhaul. If it slowly looses power and dies it’s usually fuel system related, if it shuts off like you hit the kill switch it could be a coil problem.
@@wallysworkin823 I use it a lot, I have a lawn business. Also to be accurate it is a 4 mix blower. It is running fill speed. Not completely idled down but I let up on the throttle and, yes it will shut off like hitting the kill switch. Then starts right up, usually one pull until it does it again. I will change the fuel filter this weekend. Thanks for the reply.
It could be your carburetor if you didn't figure the issue out I'm dealing with that kind of problem with br br600 rite now and I'm having to replace carburetor...my issue was very similar to what you described
I purchased my BR600 around 2005. I've had two issues with it. The first, and most annoying....it will not use a full tank of fuel before shutting down. It will leave about a third of a tank. I need to tip the machine to get the fill opening on the tank to its highest level and fill it to the top to get decent run time. I've had it to two dealers and they haven;t been able to fix the problem. Maybe you could offer your opinion on that. The second issue was a crank bearing fail. I'm not sure why this happened...I always use a premium brand oil. The same oil I use for all my Two stroke and 4-mix engines with no issues. My main issue with the crank bearing is that it can't be purchased separately. It would an inexpensive fix if it was. I replaced the crank assembly along with a few other parts (because it was apart) and it has been running as good or better than new since. My research on the BR700 showed that it has different exhaust valves than the BR600. I'm not sure if that's just a part number issue or if they really are different....considering that they have the same engines. I did notice that the valve train was revised on the BR600 when I rebuilt mine. Maybe you could comment on that. Other than the plastic at the exhaust melting.....I haven't had any of the issues you've mentioned. Thank you for the video.
Do you have a single fuel filter in the tank? Early models had a single but the newer ones have a dual filter which helps pull fuel from both sides of the tank. I have seen several crank bearings failures, some were just part failures. Unfortunately the crank needs to be replaced and it’s not cheap. I’m not aware of a change in exhaust valves them selves, I would need to look that up. There was a change in the cams after your blower. The metal plate on the back of the cam would come off and cause damage. Good to see your still running an old unit, take care of it and it will run for a long time.
I would think that the dealers would have addressed the vent on the tank...but...you never know. Its been years since I've looked into the problem...I may have replaced the vent myself. The machine runs perfectly to that point....another reason why I don't believe it's a vent issue. Also...if I shake the machine when it begins to stumble...it will continue to run for a period of time. Suggesting that it's a fuel pickup issue. I believe my unit has a single fuel pickup design. I'll look into that. Thank you for the responses. I appreciate it very much.
@@victormarinelli5660 Mine is the newer dual fuel filter design. Which I replace them both when experiencing the 1/2 tank tank no fuel problem. Next, when I replaced the vent, problem solved.
@@snakeman48 Thank you Snakeman I don't remember if I replaced the vent and I don't believe either of the dealers did. As I mentioned...I would think that the vent would be one of the priority check points for a dealer. At this point, I'll probably replace the vent and add the additional pickup line. Another person commented about the vent....apparently, it's an issue. Thank you for your help.. much appreciated.
Could be a few things, if you don’t hear “knocking” when it’s cold it could be detonating or the valves could be out of adjustment. It is poss the wrist pin is bad but usually you will hear it when cold.
The valves have never been adjusted and I’ve owned it more than 10 years. It doesn’t make any noise until it’s been ran wide open for a few minutes. Thank you for your help.
What kind of blower do you recommend while reading the comments it look like stilh has a lot of problem in your opinion which brand is the most reliable
I just checked a used engine I have and it’s .018 An article by Wiseco says, “A rule of thumb for ring end gap measurement is to use the bore size in inches x .005”.
10:50 br550 600 700 and 800 for some dumb reason stihl decided to use a brass bushing instead of roller bearing bushing and if you dont use the correct 2 cycle oil.............
Sorry for the delay, had a hard time finding any numbers. Stihl uses the 3M Cross Buff. You can add different length arbor lengths. You can get everything from 3M.
Aspen blue jug or the Stihl grey jug, alkylate fuel, with Saber oil. It gives you better performance, better throttle response, lifetime bearings, clean exhaust, temperature control, etc.
I have the BR - 600 thats 13 yrs old which has been great. Keep them clean helps with the life span. Of course do preventative maintenance is critical.
I think a lot of shit comes down to shit happens now a days. Seen random failures from people who sleep with there machines that’s how much love they get
Depending on what you have in your area, We recommend at least 91-92 octane. Or if you use it for home I really like the VP and Aspen non ethanol can fuels.
@@wallysworkin823 Same, not only do I feel like 4 strokes aren’t as powerful as 2 strokes but I also hate the way 4 strokes sound, the sound of them just makes me cringe
I have a BR600 Magnum, homeowner usage, coil went bad out of warranty. I also think it is building up too much carbon, so I switched to Echo Red Armor.
@@luvingfully Ive had mine for either 8 or 10 years now and Its been trouble free. I used it around the house and a couple side jobs so it doesn't have a ton of use on it maybe about 100 hours tops if that. I only used stihl platinum oil and for the last 2-3 years amsoil saber.
