Easy to follow and thorough step by step tutorials do it yourself (DIY) to help you with your broken lawn and garden equipment including snowblowers.
I do my best to teach you how to easily diagnose problems the fastest, quickest and most efficient way with real repairs beyond just replacing a spark plug. These tips are for both the homeowner and shop owner.
Whether it be a handheld, two stroke, two cycle engine like a chainsaw, weed eater, weed wacker, string trimmer, grass trimmer, line trimmer, hedge trimmer, strimmer, brush cutter, leaf blower, or four stroke, four cycle units like a lawnmower, wood splitter, lawn tractor, snowblower, pressure washer, generator or a ride on mower that needs parts installed or replaced, I’m your go-to guy.
My favorite brands of spark plugs are NGK and Champion and are the ones I recommend.
I’ve been a small engine mechanic for many decades and also run my own repair shop so my videos are loaded with tips and tricks that I have learned and want to share with you. You will also find many tool and product reviews from top brands on my channel as well.

I have had my 291 for more years than I can remember. Not long after they came out in Australia. I can’t fault it never had a problem with it. Muffler Mod really woke the saw up and realised it’s full potential.

I have A ms 291 purchased a year ago. There is no push button for priming.. it is the most difficult saw to start that i ever had. When it is going it is great. I will trade it in for something that is easier to start. When i see owners just starting the saw with a few pull i envy them. There is so much compression that when I pull the whole saw wants to raise of the ground. Pierre

It's good to see people like this saw. I bought one a while back and it's been excellent so far. Starts really easy every time. My Poulan PL3816 is adequate for my property with a 14" bar but it's not as reliable and the Stihl cuts these small trees so fast.

I have the 211c, and was kind of on the fence about the easy start. But I bought it so that my family could start it if I was not there. I have grown to like it a lot. It works really well, you just have to get used to it. Granted, I have not used it very much, but for my application it fits my needs nicely.

We had a storm come through here last week so I just picked one of these saws up yesterday. I have a Stihl 029 that I bought in 1993 but I guess it's getting long in the tooth as it wouldn't stay running long enough to deal with the tree that came down on my property. But anyway this new saw went through some 9 and 10 inch cuts very efficiently. I'm looking forward to many years of cutting fun with this saw.

A really great saw. Bought it back in 2013 with a 18" guide bar and a 3/8 pitch chain. Nice smooth operation not heavy and easy to maintenance. Lots of common parts with the MS261. The clutch, the petrol tank, the air filter are some parts that are the same in both saws. Anyway the saw served me good for a short time, withhout any problems, until the day that it got stolen.

I have an important start up question with this MS291 starting this is with the chain break disengaged correct? So when the engine actually starts the chain is moving correct then you click the trigger so it goes into idle mode and then if you want you can engage the chain break correct?

Just got a MS291 for $100......someone left it outside for 4 years straight......started RIGHT up!! Runs perfect....Although it's a good saw, a NON-adjustable oiler is a huge problem if you cut Hard stuff, or Pine/Sap.....you risk burning up parts. The MS290 is a better saw....adjustable Oiler, parts are Dirt cheap Everywhere on ebay....and you can drop in a MS390 Top End!!

I bought one of these saws (non C model) new when they came out. I bowed to peer pressure and moved from Husky. It does perform well and can be a pleasure to use but it has always had it's little shitty points. First start of the day has always been a real bear, once running it's good for the rest of the day. I've never liked the bar oiler, not enough oil and the bar gets hotter than I like but dealer says it is the way it is supposed to be. Now the choke linkage system has screwed up and the dealer was nice enough to tell me up front that I had better go re mortgage my house if I wanted him to fix it. So now I am trolling the internet looking to see if someone else has had this problem to find enough information to fix it myself. Over all I am really disappointed in the build quality of this saw and kind of wish I had stuck with Husqvarna.

I' almost convinced a certain brand of orange and white colored equipment isn't what it once was. Almost believing perhaps it never was all it was made out to be.. Too much money already invested in all of it to scrap it. So I come here to keep up with it.

How come they say to start these chainsaws with a brake on but if you do that with this won’t you burn out the clutch? That’s how I burnt out my clutch so to start this particular chainsaw the brake is off (disengaged) when it starts up you hit the trigger so it idles then you can use the break correct?

Got the 290. 10 yrs cut 100's of trees. Taken a beating, Dropped you name it. Thing just wants to live. Plus this 291 C looks like it was bit on the weak side cutting a tree only that big. Maybe needs to be worked in. But Till my 290 dies, I'm sticking with it. It's paid itself more times than I can count.

DB, These chain specs are odd for Stihl. The .325 pitch always had. 067 gauge and 3/8s are .050. Stihl brand chain series begin with 26 and 33 respectively and are widely available. A 325 / 50 would be a '23' series. Curious if Stihl changing over all the .325 pitch to .050 guage?

That is a nice saw, and I would like to have one like that which runs that good. The MS 250 I have have never run right since owning it, and so far the new Poulan Pro I just purchased is a dud also. They both are currently in the shop being repaired and I am using my pole saw and old Poulan when it cranks.

Interesting to see the differences between the 291, and the 291C. I have the former, and it does not have ez start, or the toolless chain tensioning. Mine also does not have a primer bulb. The rest looks much the same, except this is 55 cc's. I haven't had the chance to use it yet- too much already cut wood to process before I go and get more! I got this, because the saw I already owned was having real trouble with the big semi-dry ash, and huge honey locust and silver maple logs I have access to. (part of the problem was that it was very dull- esp on one side- and my less than great efforts at sharpening it didn't help, lol) This saw should be able to handle it much better. I'm not turning down free Ash and Locust- big or not!

You can upgrade and if you have not mod your exhaust I would suggest that. The saw will really come alive

Each time the chain goes dull, toss the saw and by a new one? I’ve never heard of that one before, I guess it wood work alright though, if the alternate is to sharpen the chain correctly?

I always use high test gas and castrol oil.and never let mixed gas set more than a couple mths.I love my stihl .Also have 4 other smaller saws i use for the light stuff .I would never buy and outher echo saw .Have two both leak chain oil bad will empty out a tank over a mth.dealer tells me thats normal.Ya right

@robert3553
@robert3553 8 лет назад
I had a Still chain saw and it over revved and blew up. Oil and fuel mixture was fine. The saw lasted maybe 3 years. Also, I always had trouble starting it. I payed around $400 for the saw. He's what I'm getting at. I went to Sears and bought a 20" Craftsman chain saw for $180 and I've had it for 12 years now. The saw is beautiful. I've cut down approximately 100 trees and completely cut the trees up for firewood. So before you spend $500 on Still why not consider paying half for a no name brand. Trial and error has taught me that brand name products alway's cost more. note: I am not saying anything bad about Still products, I personally think their a good quality saw. I just believe you don't have to buy brand name products to get good quality merchandise.

+Robert T I was doing that math too, cheap "50 hour lifespan" saws for 75-85 USD, with name brand 300 hour saws at 500+, you can buy a half-dozen throw-aways, with fresh bars & sharp chains.......& still be $$$ ahead.
@robert3553
@robert3553 8 лет назад
I paid $180 for my Craftsman 20" and have no idea what hours are. But the saw did fall out of a tree about 15 feet and bent bar and ruined blade. Put new bar and blade on and it started up on first pull. That was 5 years ago. I used to think expensive tools were the best. Now I compare specs and read comments before I buy. Sometimes you get lucky sometimes not. Just trying to stay ahead of the game with all the overseas outsourcing.
@timewa851
@timewa851 8 лет назад
+Robert T the recent products have hours of operation stickers, this Stihl has it on the inside of the operators handle, you can see it in the video, @ 1:05 with other manf. info., it's the expected service life of the engine, or Stihl,in this case, is calling it "emissions warranty".

I bought a 291 before looking it over well, so I overlooked its STUPID top cover design, which requires removing three or FOUR SCREWS to get to the air filter! UGGH! Other than that, and the fact it has no decompression button, it's ok. I have 3 250s.

Donny boy 73 I did not mean to disrespect you on this 291 video we have used 291 compared it to the 290 my290 8291 has no balls whatsoever what I mean by that it has no power compared to the 290 we cut the same diameter tree and the 291 was struggling my 290 is gently used but the 291 is new I cannot believe Stihl actually released to the public I mean what the hell were they thinking I think stihl just need to up their game if you're going to make a chainsaw like to 291 make sure it has more features and more power than the 290 in my opinion that's how it should be done!!!!

You do understand a new chainsaw will not reach peak performance until the engine is broke in. I know plenty of guys that love the ms291 and have no complaints cutting many hours with it.

He did say the chainsaw was not broken in yet. I have an ms291 and it will cut circles around the vibrating heavy old cow an ms290 I owned before, it was torture to use it.

Knock on wood!!!!------> i Really Enjoy my Husqvarna 455 farm tough rancher.... It's a Beast!. It's never bogged down while cutting. And always starts and idel's perfect all the time. But i do run nothing but premium and premium mix oil as well. The spark plug has also never carboned up at all. I have owned it for 3 plus years.... I do enjoy Stihl as well. They are all very fine Product's. Just half to keep proper maintanance on them and the will last for years!.

I hate plastic saws, nothing sexy about that. Couldn't even give you a metal loop handle. Pinch that bar in the winter and start pulling on that and I guarantee you break that handle.

Stay away from Stihl 261. My Stihl 261 broke down after only 3 years of cutting firewood. Stihl said it was my fault because I didnt use the Stihl oil and alcylat gasoline! 026 was a much more robust saw and I had one for allmost 20 years and used shell oil and 95 gas mixed 2%. Not happy with the Stihl 261 and Stihl support.

Yes andrew, I have the catalog right here, say bulit in the usa, I own several sthils. I believe like 90% of what sthil bulids is here in the states
@andrewford80

jar men probably for the American market. But there are a few other countries outside of the United States of arrogance which get their saws from Germany. Or Brazil. I've never seen a USA built saw in Australia or new Zealand.
