Absolutely deplorable saw, shameful really. This is why my friend pays his workers extra money for saws. They use their own saw, maintenance and repair is done by the worker.😮 They don't treat their equipment like a rented mule anymore. I understand a saw is a tool, and tools get used. This was blaintent abuse.

I don’t know if 300 hours for a saw used on a mill is a lot or not. When I worked saws, 300 hours would have been roughly 10 weeks work for the saw. None of my saws looked like that one, poor saw. Very surprised how well it ran, must say something for Stihls quality. Thanks for showing us it

Such a crime. 99% of your viewers would give anything (except the $1600 purchase price, of course😅) to own that saw, and this guy treats it like a disposable napkin.

That saw was Brutalised and Abused no wonder it was an alcoholic on fuel with the filter that bad if they brought that into be serviced here in Ireland they would get battered with the saw i have NO TIME for people that abuse chainsaw's like that

One small tip about the 500i, the filter tend to leak fine dust, I found this great tip in another video about adding an additional cloth washer between the filter and the plastic. For me this works perfect, never had an issue with small particles inside the filter. Another comment from me is, damn, people saying the 500i is not reliable can go suck it, this saw was eating dust and still running perfect.
@kbittorf335
@kbittorf335 День назад
I have an ms361 and 460 and I use dielectric grease where the air filters seal otherwise they‘re sucking in fines. I have not heard of using a cloth washer. I do not have this issue on other brand saws.

@8000 starts and 297 hours he must be cutting a lot of small stuff or that saw is a beast. Averaged out that's just over 2 minutes of use each time it's been started. But I must say I'm impressed with how well that saw cold starts and runs with fuel injection.

It's last service was...never. The company or person that owns that saw should be embarrassed. You take care of the tool. The tool takes care of you.

@gerritvanwilligen 3 дня назад
Well... It was never plugged in to a computer and data was never downloaded, that's the only thing you can say for sure. My 500i would have that exact same reading for the simple reason it hasn't been at a dealership for 5 years. Difference is that my saw did have it's normal daily maintenance and service, but I do all of that myself. The saw in the video missed a lot of those TLC moments 😒

My son bought me a Stihl 500I for Father’s Day. What a beast of a saw ! The only thing I’ve noticed was pointed out by Buck n Billy Ray. When the saw is under a load, it 4 cycles noticeably. I believe Stihl programs the fuel map that way to prevent it from running lean. But it’s kind of annoying.

I hate idiots who don't take care of their machines and they keep abusing them untill they fall apart. For example I use my FS120 professionally and after almost 9 years I realised that if I let it sit for 10 minutes I need to prime the fuel before restarting, took it to a shop, he replaced the diaphragms and told me to keep the good care of my machine as I did for all these years. When I touched the old diaphragms I heard they are slightly clicky... If I was like most of the people my FS120 would be trashed long time ago..

First of all, I absolutely love the 500i and have had one now for 2 years and use it all the time. However, it is absolutely the wrong saw to use for milling. For that purchase price , the owner should have been able to obtain a 100cc saw, preferably with a manually adjustable carburetor. There is absolutely nothing more brutal for a chainsaw than milling.

I'm honestly surprised Stihl didn't send a new one so they could have the old one to study so they could make improvements. You know, for idiots that abuse their tools like that. (I understand companies that use saws a lot and they get dropped etc., but it sounds like the owner uses it as a sawmill?) (Did you ever think this many people would enjoy watching chainsaw repair?)

Pretty scary when someone spends that kind of money on a saw and doesn't even bother shaking out the air filter every now and then. If you can't do basic maintenance then why spend top dollar on a saw? Buy a throwaway saw then

Hi Erica and Tyler. Great to have you posting videos again, appreciate you burning the mid night oil to make them for us! Top quality video and instruction too. I just had a totally filthy and neglected MS250 in to fix. Pull cord was stuck?? Found a totally disintegrated clutch side crank bearing, pieces found even up above the piston. Needed cylinder, piston and bearings, plus more. The customer didn't want to spend that much so he gave it to me for parts. Dont think it had ever been serviced either. I rebuilt it as I think the 250 is a nice home saw, but not a cheap fix even using good quality after market piston and cylinder kit. Keep up the good work, glad your cat survived! Peter in AUS.

I already see same damage on chainsaw handle, foresters pack saws one iside others to save space in vehicle. Its ok when use bar guard, without bar guard, chain from one chainsaw make damage on handle other chaisaw. This is practice common among proffesional foresters.

Given its a milling saw I expect the saw is not moved much and is somehow mounted and held in some device which might be more likely to explain the marks on the handle?

I don’t get it. Why spend that amount of money on a saw, then do no maintenance on it. Got to wonder, if he cares so little about his own equipment, how much less he probably cares about the quality of work he does for others? As for milling. It’s a good saw and is as you said, it’s a thirsty beast. But it’s just not built for milling. Get at least a 660/661 or 880 or Husky 3120, at a pinch, a 395 or a newer 585.
