The Stihl MS500i showed up at my door . I unbox it to notice a half wrap handle bar. With some quick logger magic I dress it up in a full wrap handle bar and 32” bar full house chain . And put it to work in big wood
People just don’t realize how much work goes into cutting up a big old tree like that..my good buddy cuts down trees for a living and he works hard but he loves it!
I milled 4 planks yesterday with my Echo 18 inch chainsaw. Only 4 planks with the chainsaw mill and my back was sore. My best friend owns a tree service too and you're right, they work really hard but love the work.
True store! Took down a 68” ABH burr oak last year. Took 2 12 hour days to finish that up. 140 foot tall got almost 8 cord of wood from that tree. She was a monster
Billy Ray... I can’t believe my eyes. ‘Ol Buckin’ is run’n a Stihl and grin’n! And to think, I’m run’n a 395 grin’n! The world, she’s a change’n😉😎 Love ya, Bless’ns to ya, Tedd
Chainsaws and heavy machinery , older and younger men working . Old and new saws ,old and new trucks. And a big spectrum of skill levels, this video has it all.
Man she cutts. I still live the sound of that hot rodd 125. You have. Reminds me of sitting at a traffic light and a old man rolling up in his big block hot rodd. And you can feel the cams lobeing in your chest.
I bet the ECU (computer) in the 500I has a "break in" tune for the first hour or whatever and then it changes the timing and fuel to full power after that.... The rings seat almost instantly. Cool to see a thumbs up for Stihl!
Wow this was a very dangerous and technical tree drop, and this team makes it look easy, hats off to you Billy, what a impressive crew. it made me chuckle to watch you all giggling like 5 years olds on Christmas morning over the new and vintage saws alike.
Yeah like no mesh or glasses , or saw pants, to each his own, i had a chain break and wild whip in 70s, bought chaps next day, always wore fog resistant glasses
@@daleval2182 But they'll wear ear protection right. No hate at all to Buckin'. In fact, I'm a big supporter of his and everything he does, but his protection priorities are a bit odd. Just saying.
So much pure joy experienced that day. Clearly. Love watching masters of their trade having so much fun. Thanks for sharing, Buckin’!!! Be kind friends. Have a great week! 🧡🪵✊🏼
This is my favorite video! Because i have and love the 500i perhaps. Also how nick sent and buckin recieved the saw. Upgraded it and that Donny was there! Wow!! I want to see more adventures with the 500i in the hands of this true master!! Go buckin! Be kind & be productive with the reliablilty of the new 500!!!! Your the man!!!
Got 3 of these saws and been using for a year and a half now. No serious problems just need to watch out for the cracking in the fuel tank and plastic is fairly weak .but its and absolute beast enjoy. Tom miller from across the pond
Buckin I love the 125! Sounds great... looks fun to chunk with! Great video and alot of respected folks having a day chatting, playing and working hard. Loved the axe work too. I really appreciated the video BBR!
@@FectoReviews thank you! friendships made here are a blessing. Im just happy to help where i can to make a difference. It will be fun to do some filming once travel opens up.
Great message at the end. Love the optimism and the call to invest in yourself and others going forward. Future is bright when we realize we're all in this together and put our collective arms around eachother and shoulders to the wheel. Thanks man!
Great footage on this one buddy. Love the 125 shows also Buckin. Thank you Donny Walker and Ian Shaw for the great fun of the unveiling of the 500I. Love it all fellas. 🌲❤🌲✊🪓
My first job was block packer in a small mill here in the Kootenays, I was 13 and they taught me how to run a chain saw with an 070 Stihl, and a 090 Stihl. I had to hook my toes into the handle and handle bars, hold the pull cord and stand up to start those saws, but I did start them. lol. From day one I was in love with chainsaws, and now 40 years later I still love chainsaws, I play with them, and work with them, build and repair saws, but for the life of me, I have never been very good at tuning a carb!!! It always amazes me how quickly you can hear and fix a poorly adjusted carb. God bless.
That Stihl saw was fantastic. The way you plunged it, nose first, into that trunk was amazing. But, that Mcculloch was just loafing while it was plowing through that log. Like a hot knife through butter. 😳👍😁
Agree 100%. It really screams with the barkbox. Nice pickup in the low end too. Love my 462. Just wish I could fine a wrap handle for it that doesn't cost 155 bucks on ebay.
Thanks for the video and your thumbs up on the Bark Box. I've had my 500i for a couple of weeks, waited 2 years, and really like the weight and manueverability. You sold me the muffler mod. Still waiting for the rings to "seat in"!!! 🤣
When BBR cuts a round, you could measure that thing with a micrometer from side to side. That is a testament to his sawmanship but also his skill in hand filing.
The 500i is by far the best saw that Stihl has released in my opinion. At first, I didn't like it, but after a week of using it every day in the brush I've come to love it. Mine had a break in period of at least 10 hour run time then it completely opened up. From what ive read other people said the same thing. Out of the box til now it's a completely different saw. Give it a chance you will enjoy it. The thing I like the most about it is the consistency it gives you. The power is always there which is where fuel injected shines in my opinion. Surprisingly I haven't felt like I've needed more power and I've put it in some very big wood.
Drop it and see how it runs. Just bouncing around in a truck bed has required us to bring our “electronic tuned” saws back the dealer repeatedly at $60 a pop. They have to plug them in and reflash/update the tune.
@@stevefrazier2214 naw man I totally get where you're coming from. I get it. Luckily I haven't had that problem. I always take extra good care of my tools and equipment though because that's an extra expense that can be prevented by taking the extra time out. Fuel injected saws has alot of room to be improved upon but I think it's the potential gold standard. I'm not a believer in battery powered when it come to heavy usage. The 500i is an outstanding new platform to build off of though.
@@moose1164 we have had the battery powered top handle huskies since they came out, 5+ years? The saws and the batteries have outlasted any gas top handle I’ve ever owned. A husky rep shocked when we told him how old they were and joked about needing to do something about that...you probably know gas are rated for a certain amount of hours of use. We currently have 5 battery saws, including the new version. We no longer own a gas powered top handle. We grab a 50cc gasser when the top handles are not enough. The new husky with the nano cut bar/chain from Oregon is the tits. Battery powered saws for technical climbing and lift work are awesome. No pull start, no idling saw. Waiting for the day a power to weight battery saw competes with a 120cc saw!
@@stevefrazier2214 oh I agree. I like the battery top handle saws for climbing but I've ran into limbs that a battery powered couldn't finish the job. The actual power is where they need to make the most improvements in my opinion. Battery power has come a long way and will eventually surpass gas I think.
Very much enjoyed the review...i really like my 500i... but the bark box is intriguing. Really appreciate the words of positivity, wisdom and kindness at the end....kudos to you!!
Yep. Every time I watch one of your videos I think ahhhh that's not so big. A big tree is a big tree, then I get out into the woods and look at trees for firewood and say ahhhh that's not so bad. Then I walk up to a 20" tree I'm going to fall and I realize that yeah, it's dangerous and for anyone to make it in the timber game as long as you have, it is a pretty amazing track record. I've learned a lot watching your videos. Thanks for making your channel. You keep makin videos and I'll keep learning. Thanks Billy Ray!
"Stihl" holdin' on to the 461's. I've fell, bucked and blown up a few. Still love em. The 462s and the 500s have just felt too damn "squishy" I've yet to try one with the after market motor mounts so I can't rightly disapprove. As far as the Bark Box goes... well, absolute must have. West coast is killing it with them things. Buckin' has sparked hope in me for the 500i for sure. I'm just not sure if it's just his "contagious positivity" or not. Take care Buckin'. You're a damn legend.
Modern Scandi' saws are made with a firm sight on complying with hand-arm vibration figures hence the squishiness. You wouldn't believe the lengths European employers have to go to to comply with regulations. However, the way the 500i is set up the daily exposure limits are similar to a saw two cc classes lower.
@@longlowdog I understand why they're squishy. It just doesn't work for cutting in the Pacific Northwest. I don't care about vibration. It's a great saw. I just want to run it with the stiffened up 661 mounts I've heard you can use.
Even when I’m at the hospital getting stitches(from my knife while opening a new bar lol) watching billy always puts me in a better mood :-) stay safe friends
Morning buddy, good to see you having fun with the new saw and Ian and Hogan... can see the joy in your face foolin' around with the saws. Glad to see ya havin another great day... of course! Hey to all, MAGKD!
Been waiting for this video and it’s freakin awesome! Love it! I love my 500i. Everyone has says the bark box really makes the saw sing. I guess I’ll have to get me one. Cheers!
Love to see Buckin' smiling while running a Stihl for a change! Maybe we got him hooked with this one. That saw is wicked, it was falling through the wood. Wow!
I felt the moment my 500i woke up, the saw became a whole new animal. I've had the WCS Bark Box on mine since day one, it's and amazing product. Gordy did a great job on it. Happy cutting Buckin'!
Right on Jeff Wilk! Giver! Honestly and self awareness freind😃 started my day feeling grateful gonna keep riding that wave. It was seeing your message that set me straight😌 thanks for you👍
Getting her done as always. Hell...... give everybody a camera, and fly a drone. Put some drum rolls it there, maybe some cow bell. Mix it up a little Bucking. That camera in this on is good when that hinge broke. I could almost smell it. Very good!..
Dear Buckin, thank for you all the work that you put into your content. I think that this is one of my favorite videos that you have made. And yes I'm a stihl guy as well, but I do like seeing the old school saws as well. God Bless, keep cutting and Semper Fi my friend.
Awesome video - I love my 500i . I am by no means a pro like you - but I love the saw. Really looking forward to all the things that are coming to the channel. Thank you for the video.
Billy Ray, one thing that happens with these computerized saws is they "learn" from the throttle demand and the actual engine rpm as to what the load is. If throttle demand is 100%, but engine rpm is low, then the system can add more fuel to compensate. Sometimes this process takes a couple cuts to allow enough data for the computer to make the adjustments. It doesn't happen with a single quick cut under heavy load because then subsequent cuts will be too rich. If you're doing big cut after big cut, it'll start to dump more fuel in. If you switch back from Buckin' to Limbin', you may detect less power when you then jump back into a heavy load cut.
