It is important to note that Maxy is synonymous with Max-Flow, or if you are a little bit older, Hole-Shot.
In a earlier video - • Stihl Early 066 vs M-t... - we took a look at the differential in performance between the oem fitment HD2 and the Max-Flow systems.
As mentioned, this 661 is no longer M-Tronic assisted. Seen here in the "phase #2" version from the previous build saga - • Stihl Early 066 vs Unl... - between it an the vintage 066. We have an unlimited coil and fully adjustable carburetor.
How long it takes to get though, a little bit of a difference but it's not huge. The rpm differential was slight. I did stop the 661 with in the first run for a split second but it did have the worst of the knot so the net was probably pretty close to even - corroborated by the times.
Timed runs as follows:
661 w/Maxy @ 13,200 K 13.08 & 11.96
661 w/ K&N @ 13,200 K 13.25 & 11.78
Overall, the 661 ran about the same with both options.
I can say from running both in various conditions & locations in the Pacific Northwest that the Max-flow system is more suited to inclement weather, brushy and burnt areas, as well as a little more resistant to the occasional "roll over" off the log.
A special thanks to my lovely bride for the help!
