This is my first-use of the amazing SG20 pump-pressure sprayer.
Whenever we spray toxic chemicals on our lawns, driveways, and gardens, we add large amounts of seriously toxic chemicals to the groundwater and soil which will remain there for generations and eventually get into the groundwater.
I avoid use of it and all chemical pesticides, herbicides, and insecticides entirely on my lawn, driveway, sidewalks, and garden. Those chemicals end up in the digestive systems of pets and wildlife eventually, our drinking water. Some of the most popular commercial non-vinegar-based weed killers contain chemicals known to cause cancer. Vinegar, salt, and a small amount of dish soap has never been found to cause cancer, nor does it poison pets and wildlife.
NOTE: standard white kitchen and household vinegar is not nearly as effective as the much stronger 45% or 75% acetic acid-containing industrial vinegar, easily found at your local hardware store or online. Standard white vinegar from the grocery store contains only about 5% acetic acid, which will kill weeds, but it’s not nearly as effective as much stronger industrial strength vinegar diluted with water.

Somebody commented that vinegar does not kill the roots. This is fact. However, industrial strength vinegar/water/salt/soap mixture weakens even the hardiest weeds, and turns them into sad brown ghost plants, which can be pulled up much more easily when you do the weeding after the spraying. At that point, you don’t have to repeat this process for a few more months, unless you have a really rainy summer in which case you might have to do it again, six weeks later.

Greg, You are right on time. How much vinegar to the cup of Salt and how much dish soap in teaspoons. I have lots of weed but they are not worth anything.

If you have lots of weed, don’t be a stranger, buddy! Hahaha! OK so it depends on the strength of the vinegar. I just learned that in order to be really effective as a weed killer you need something like 15-20% acetic acid strength. in this video, I’m only using standard every day white vinegar from the grocery store, which is something like 5% acetic acid… Not really strong enough, so I’m going to have to re-spray. So the best way to do this is to purchase industrial strength vinegar online, and cut it with water until you get that strength. Salt is about one cup per gallon, and dish soap is maybe a teaspoon I believe or even a few dribbles. I got a “recipe” online through Martha Stewart.

@@rhythmfield Yes, apple cider vinegar is very good for everything also. I read boiling hot water is very good also, but heating it up can be a costly expense unless you can benefit from draining your hot water heater of calcium build up. But then water is expensive. I did read once that if you learn to accept the bad weeds then and only then will flowers grow. (Lol)

I saw somebody comment somewhere that using vinegar as weed killer is illegal in Germany. Can somebody confirm this? As far as I know, the only real risk involved is if you really go bananas and spray industrial-strength vinegar all over the place, it will weaken the roots of surrounding trees, definitely not a good thing. So like any other process where we attempt to beat nature into submission, use this procedure carefully and thoughtfully, don’t overdo it.
