I would be tempted to actually back the ATV into the bed with how the weight of it is distributed. It at least wouldn't be AS MUCH stress on the tailgate and might help a bit with the squat. I would rather buy an n/a gas 3/4 if i went back to fullsized truck, the only downside is the mpgs of a heavy duty truck. Less limitations like plenty of payload, towing plus you can put a plow on it. Todays half tons have turned into swelled up cars with a bed.

Ford's 7.3 is an incredibly good engine. It gets about the same MPG as the 5.7 Tundra but with a 7.3 liter engine! OHV port injected engine, incredibly simple, incredibly durable. Heavy duty trucks have the best longevity because they are just built for that and that engine will get you very far with minimal repairs

TRD pro is one of Toyotas builds through the years that has always been top notch and honestly can run with any truck in harsh and unforgiving conditions anywhere in the world. For those who are concerned about the tailgate or any tailgate this is what I recommend all the time. I bought new a 2008 Tundra 5.7 for my trucking business at that time. The tailgate never failed for 150K abusive miles because as soon as I got it home I removed the tailgate panel and inspected the tailgate wrap. I determined it needed some help. Everywhere the wrap connected or metal meet metal the best I could I used steel epoxy and in tight places JB weld. Especially in the the top corners. It worked and worked well and produced a good service life for the Toyota tailgate.

These short beds on "full-size" pickups are just silly and having something like that ATV so far back is very far from ideal. I'm also not a fan of the exterior styling. It's a bit too heavy-handed and over styled. Toyota did a better job with their second draft, the Tacoma, which has a more refined and cohesive design. I expect Toyota to apply some of those design learnings to the Tundra for its mid-cycle refresh.

With the weight on the Kawi being so far back your over the weight limit of the tailgate I can promise you. What makes wire supported tail gates fail is time and the constant flexing as the tailgate is open and closed. I have seen several fail but all were wire supported and at least 3-4 years old. What happens is the heat shrink gets a crack in it from flexing and water gets in and there you go. Like i said never sene one fail that was under 3-4 years old.

We service 13 different dealerships so I do get to drive plenty of new vehicles. I will say y’all guys really harp on the coil, spring rear suspension, but from my experience driving the newer model ram heavy duty trucks. They are no more smoother on the highway in my 1999 F250 300,000 mile with leaf springs all the way around I still swear my old Ford has a smoother ride smoother than these new Rams! You'll spend more time in the shop than on the road. These new diesels are overtuned trash. I know of a construction company with two powerstrokes and a Duramax. Power Strokes were always sick even at the beginning when they were new so they tried a GMC Duramax that performed well at the beginning but last time I checked in it was having issues too. Something about fuel economy. The one boss said he was getting about seven miles to the gallon loaded or not. I'd stay away from the V8 diesels for sure. I guess I'd have to go with a Cummins if i just absolutely needed a diesel truck but I'd stay away from diesel all together if I could. Nothin but heartbreak and agony tho it seems like everything that's being put out these days is trash.

Great video TK! 1100 lbs of payload is really disappointing, considering that the new Tacoma promises 1700 lbs in most any trim/configuration. How does that work for a crew cab truck? You could max it out with 4 guys in the truck,,, without anything in the bed at all! That sounds like a bad joke. Have trucks gotten so big that they can't really be half-tons anymore and should be qualified as HDs so they can have any useable payload? I guess the poor fuel economy when loaded is down to the Turbo V6... like EcoBoost engines - thirsty when worked hard, economical when driven gently. Cheers!

Interesting. I’m still standing by my experience. It didn’t happen with an F150, previous gen Colorado ZR2, Jeep Wrangler (v6), or a gmc 3500 diesel. I wonder if the contrary experience is a result of something else, like the coincidence with changing weather. For example getting the truck in cold weather during winter and in warmer weather coming spring and summer the mpg improves. Or maybe I am an outlier. Or drive too much to notice. I blow through 2000 miles in 3 weeks and in the beginning in a few days as I usually buy my vehicles out of state and drive them home. For the diesel hd I had to drive it 2,500 miles to get home and it took me 4 days.

This is a thing, 2022 chevy 2500 gas truck at work. First 2k miles it would only get 10 to 10.5 mpg. Now with 10k on it it's been getting 12.5 to 13 mpg

I assume they just work with what they are given by toyota, but it always seems they are testing short bed off-road trucks for "truck work". Something like this would be better suited for at least a 6.5 bed and just the standard suspension (where the front is not leveled to the rear aiding in the squat). Where is an actual review on RU-vid of an 8ft bed tundra. All I see is the crewmax even in the previous generation.
@TruckKing
@TruckKing 11 месяцев назад
You are right. 8-ft beds are less than 10% of the market - and most of those go to fleets. So, yes Toyota gives us only the popular models to test.

@M.H…. There is no way on the green earth that they would make a tailgate that qualifies for only 200 pounds when the average American male pickup truck buyer is about 250 pounds. 😃 somewhere I read that usually the tailgates would be ok to up to two thousand pounds. I don’t have a source anymore and I am too lazy to find it again.

Great video 👍 This Tundra with Turbo + Hybrid + with 10 speed transmission with hardly any major improvements on mpg? Toyota Canada, don’t you think it is time to dump over engineered vehicles. Why not invest on small diesels and not play the climate change hoax. Absolute nonsense and stupidity. All this high technology will cost owners in repairs once the warranty expires. The best trucks are simple trucks when it comes to engine and transmission. Bring back the older V8 engines and 6 speed transmission….simple and it works.

Your opinion is not backed by fact. Ford??? First year Tundra launched Ford had more recalls by about 6-7 more. The first recalls were for the trucks made right at the start of the year. Mid year trucks didn't have those issues. One was for the tonneau cover lol. But go with Ford, that wasn't a new truck, just Ford trash. Even the CEO admitted to reliability issues they had.
