I paint a small still life at the center of my Guest of Honour piece and blab about various things, somewhat related to art.

Mesmerizing art. It's a pleasure seeing the process of it coming out to life and philosophical notes.

NIce video - love the groovy soundtrack! As I am sure you are well aware, softening edges was super critical to the success of Da Vinci and other Renaissance painters to achieve high realism - this includes the many that followed, and of course, yourself. Terms like sfumato and unione have been used to describe versions of this effect/technique, so maybe you can just call yours "la tecnica della rampa"?

Thank you James. I love those guys and Raphael as well. I also love any word that has an sf combination. So similar to the meaning of chiaroscuro. Tenebrism is one that I love as well. I'll have to get a hat with all these terms printed under the brim so I can remember them. I will include your suggestion. As well as toposfumato, or toposcuro?

Heelloo! I enjoyed watching your process while listening to your thoughts, thank you! I wonder how many days or weeks do you usually finished a 24 x 36 inches piece?

It might take about 4 to 6 weeks for a piece that size. Thank you for asking.

omg, so glad you re making videos with descriptive internal process of creation. hope you re gonna keep doing them, looks like you won run out of things to say. what do you think about sargent.s brushwork, do you cringe at that harshness?

Thank you. I think Sargent is brilliant. His loose brushwork is like focus for a photographer. He does spend a lot of time on eyes, nose and lips and very little time where he does not want to draw attention. Photographic blur isn't often available to painters who wish to work very quickly because it takes a great deal of time to render perfect gradients. Photographic, movement and linear blur are like tiny grey scales to make believable in realistic painting. The term "blur" of course can be easily related to softness.
