The second time zone with day/night indication is way cool! And it's lumed, nice!! Skeletonizing the hands to the date is visible is a nice attention-to-detail design.
As a mostly “Date Only” guy, this one really speaks to me. I’m still fairly new to watches so I had no idea such a movement existed. Thanks for the great review. That lume is insane!
2a.m in the morning. Waking up to go to work and drive a train. Haveing first cup of coffee and watching Ur review ofna nice looking unusuall watch makes that hard life easier😊
You said it. "A bit of a tricky one". I think for a 2 time zone watch, I'm looking for simplicity on the dial. And although I respect Zelos for the work they've put into this model it just wouldn't be a top pick for me. I hope they keep up the good work though.
I own a Zelos Thresher MOP and its at another level, a joy to the eyes and the mind. Having said that, personally I think that the best microbrand there is as of now is Farer followed closely by Wise and Baltic ( second and third place I should say) I would put Zelos in a 4th place. I don't put CW ( which I am a BIG fan of) here because I don't consider them to be microbrand, but more of a small brand , like spinnaker, but this is just me, based on sales volume and marketing budget. Another great video Jody and thanks for your brilliant input and analysis when you make a review. cheers.
Was never a fan of Zelos… until this 1. That’s such an innovative design and the 2nd zone and date complications are very cool. Please report back if Zelos claim the misaligned date numbers was yours only, a problem they acknowledge and will fix or… tough beans. That’s the 1 thing keeping my credit card safely tucked away. Great job as always.
The uneven date numbers was something I noticed even before any reviews hit the tube. I have no worries about the warranty regardless of price, but I respect and understand that mileage may vary. My Mirage 8-day @ $4,900 was money well spent. What I do know is that if any issues come up Elshan stands behind his products with exemplary customer service. Unfortunately, that's more than I can say for some higher end established brands with 2+ years on their warranties.
they can disagree all they want Zelos is number 1 when you add the price in the mix and the resale value, also is more exclusive than Helm or other brands that use waiting lists as they only release the models once and in small numbers and moastly fans that check the page often get to buy the desirable ones.
I think Christopher Ward is the #1 microbrand. So much so that they are now, arguably, no longer a microbrand. That's how far ahead of the others CW is. Zelos is #2.
@@JustOneMoreWatchyes, legacy micro. They certainly started as a micro and have now grown beyond that. That's how far ahead of everyone else they are.
@JustOneMoreWatch If a brand has all of their sales happen online, and they are not available at retailers, I consider them a microbrand. Up until CW becomes available in stores, they remain a micro (the biggest micro) in my eyes.
Dial is a bit busy for my tastes. Nice review as always. I'm looking forward to the 12th for your 2nd Erebus! Did I see an Aquatera vibe maybe?? Cheers
I ADORE my Zelos! Mako lll GMT w the blue, meteorite dial running the 9075. I like it better as my V1. I saw V2 was a little thinner and unlike V1, V2 has a minute track in the rehaute instead of the small 24 hour dial which allows a genuine 3 time tracking ability which I appreciate so much more than a minute track. This watch is luscious. Thanks for another fine review Jody
Absolutely love my great white v2. I had an issue with a spring bar in the bracelet a couple of months ago so I emailed asking if I could buy a few more. Had three new ones sent my way free of charge. That’s the type of service that brings repeat customers for sure.
One of my 2 watches is a Zelos and I really enjoy it. But I gotta say I 100% agree with you regarding warranties, 1 yr just gives off the impression that it won't last long, imo it should be standard for watches to have a 2-3 yr warranty given how solid movements are now. And while I know its a "micro brand", they still pull hundreds of thousands per normal drop based off stock numbers so I feel like this should be feasible.
I really dig their design styles and I so wanted to get their Nova Aventurine but it was impossible to get... So I got me a San Martin SN0129 Aventurine instead, and it's as awesome, if not even more stunning than the white desert dial version which I had from before.
This watch seemed MUCH more legible/functional during the lume test when the crystal/dial and perlage/decorated movement are minimized and you can clearly see the functional element. IMHO the functional elements have enough whimsy and interest to carry the design. A tophat domed crystal and dial both sapphire sounds like a reflection/distortion nightmare, hopefully there is plenty of AR coatings to mitigate that as well as Jody's amazing camera work! Another great review!
A bit rough on the finishing. The screws on the face show screwdriver marks. Along with the misalignment of the date wheels and the rough perlage I don’t think it’s worth the price for this watch with a 1 year warranty.
I would have loved some delicious high-polished finishing on this. We've seen some excellent polished Ti finishing from some of the Japanese brands at really competitive prices, and I think it would have tipped this one over the top. Genuinely like the design and complications (can grand dates become more of a thing at the low end, please? Ta 🙏🏻🙏🏻) but the dull finish and vertical brushing of the case sides just doesn't say '$1850' to me.
I have a Zelos Abyss3 in bronze. I love it. It also has a Selita movement although it is a 200-1. it is waterproof to 3000m. It cost less than £400 new. Whilst I accept this is totally different in complications I do like it. I would not pay anywhere the rrp though. I think it is worth half that at most.
@@jontptnah people just like different things. I have a couple of Zelos but honestly didn’t think I would get any more because they mostly offer yet another dive watch or field watch. This though, I’m very interested in.
I hope to see another watch from Chameri, absolutely loving mine with the birch dial. As for Microbrands, Vero and Bertucci makes some really sweet field watches.
it seems like they went a great distance to develop this, but not for everyone's taste for sure. Also, bit too high priced with many minor issues. thanks Jody for the interesting watch review.
@@JustOneMoreWatch Very much agree Jody! Can see his argument and to be fair if you are a member of the FB group he always seems to look after folk with issues.
Liking everything overall. However would prefer it with a solid dial. Feel like the transparent dial takes away for it. Hope they release another version in the future with a solid dial and I'd definitely buy it
Zealos is a great brand, and their finishing is great for the usual models for around $600, but for this price, it's a bit underwhelming. Great watch but for the price I'd question where some of the value went.
At a premium price I'd expect the numerals of the date to line up well with one another. I have an inexpensive Sugess Moonphase that manages that for a small fraction of the price. Sorry, but the hardware has to deliver at that price.
Some mixed opinions on Zelos group about this one, but for me personally it is another great examples of Zelos innovative designs. Beautiful timepiece! But... Is it me, or is the right date wheel's not aligned to the left wheel???
My first fear when i seen the grand date was alignment issues. As someone whos returned more than one watch due to misaligned date wheels, even when they are tiny windows down at the six, i know i couldnt accept it as the centre piece of the dial
Looks at watch... What time is it? No idea. Fail. Sometimes I'm sure brands start smelling themselves, and forget the basics. And don't get me started on the wonky date. Incredible looking dial, and CASEBACK though.
absolute banger..zelos continue to go from strength to strength...date alignment like that wouldnt be tolerated in the swiss watch market though..touch more q.c and then and only then will that price seem justified
It's a Zelos, though, so live and let live, we all make mistakes, it's hand crafted, I'm sure they would fix it if you wanted to, you can't see it in normal use anyway, etc.
I see the tip of the second’s hand moving, but the reading-the-time-is-an-optional-extra thing (it’s clearly designed to be read at night only 😂) is just confirming it’s just not for me. No doubt it’s sold out already! 😅
It is an interesting watch, I have never seen anything like it. The Lume is amazing. I am not going to comment on the price as I really have no idea if that is a good price or not. I do like titanium watches. I hate heavy watches. I wish more would use titanium bracelets and cases.
We may not realize it, but now is the second golden age for wristwatches. There are as many brands around as there was pre WW II in Europe. Some quite crap, some good (Zelos, Baltic, Ch Ward, Formex) coming at realistic prices, some very good (Tudor) and crazy expensive stuff only footballers and hegde fund managers can afford. To each their own. Brilliant
Fairly sure if Seiko came out with this people would scream and wail. But as it's a Zelos, iconic design, different, live and let live, glad it exists, etc.
Different, that's for sure. Just can't say that it's to my taste personally, or that I could justify the price. It won't be on my shopping list, though I can see why some might like it.
Would have been good to include an option that doesnt have the skeletionized dial....like what they did for the Skyraider....the clear saphire titanium variants looks too similar to each other.
I love Zelos and own several, including a Starfighter. Your observation about the misaligned date wheels is making me worry. I've watched a few reviews for this model, and you're the first one to complain about this issue. Hopefully, it's just your unit and not an issue with the whole line.
I love Zelos and own three of their divers. This model is an interesting one and quite unique, but I am not so much into skeletonized watches and especially into seeing date wheels in their entirety. I also immediately noticed that there are alignment issues with the date numbers, even on official photos. So (apart from the price) there are several reasons why I will be skipping this model.
I gotta be honest, I have two Zelos and I'm not overly impressed with either. Don't know why, just doesn't work for me. Much prefer my Direnzo, Henry Archer, Nodus, Phoibos and Farer.
While it is a very cool watch, the legibility is rather poor and the other elements become pretty distracting. Would much prefer if they had a strong tint on the dial that lets you see what's happening only if you're looking closely
I own several zelos at the great value end of the scale. But it's watches like this I think that show they're still a good value watch brand, but not a multi $1k brand. Nice movement, but reuse of a diver watch case, poor clasp design/fit to the bracelet, boring bracelet design and 1 year warranty are all huge negatives. Other brands are offering 3-5 year warranties on the movement at this price, they really need to up their game if they want to be in this value category I think
Actually very cool, the date is very interesting(and very visible)... but NO thank you. They need to drop the "Driver" here though. When it comes to Zelos I really like a number of their actually "Dive" watches. But I really find myself attracked to the SPEARFISH GMT BUMBLEBEE YELLOW, and I'm not a GMT guy. I hope they bring it back.
Legibility comes top of my list and the Zelos doesn't cut it.Complex and barely readable don't make good bedfellows.Stick a black dial on it and it could have been a different story.Oh well, back to the old drawing board...............................
Jody you seem to have either a smudge or something on one of your lenses. I keep seeing some smearing on the middle right corner around 8:34 its on your right thumbnail. its all over this episode and i havent seen it before. Did you notice it in post?
I do enjoy my Zelos watches. I've had a few over the journey, and still have half a dozen. But this watch seems to be bordering on being over engineered, and there's some elements of finishing and function that suffers as a result. I get the ambition of it, but as much as I like the brand, I'm not a fan of this design, and, for the money, there's simply other watches that would pique my interest tbh. Plus, I wore my Casio World Time today, in terms of tracking a 2nd, 3rd..... up to 5 time zones, that does the job better than spending almost $2k on this. As mentioned though, I appreciate Zelos pushing the boat out with the occasional more expensive design, but they're usually not my cup of tea.
