As far as I'm concerned Stimming provides me with exactly what I'm looking for in a review. A no-nonsense, practical from the position of a professional, and will occasionally 'throw the dice' and add a bit of humor. Stimming and Telekom Electronic Beats, vielen Dank!
indeed indeed. most damn near all the major youtube gear review content providers piss me off. I could do without ever seeing another bobeats, loopop, and andrew huang thumbnail/suggestion/video ever again.
@@willdahbe That's a little Harsh. Each to their own. I enjoy all the above, all with different personalities. Check out Dr. Mix and Woodys Piano Shack for more personalities :)
I just saw Stimming use this along with an octatrack and elektron samples, live. He made sounds out of these like nothing I've heard before. Really awesome set. Thank you for making the reviews in English! He has an international audience.
Stimming, this video reveals your personality (purity, intelligence, and humility). Whether theoretically or technically you are first class! Peace & Love
he is a very very special musician...everything he touches sounds good. I bought the mf. because of this review and that was my Best Buy 2019. I totally agree, this Mashine is the best Arturia product no matter hard or software!!!
This is probably the best advert Arturia could have asked for. I'm pretty much about to throw money at them to buy one even though I don't even play synth (or even make music). The sheer enthusiam and positivity he has is incredibly persuasive.
The BEST review of this amazing little synth on You Tube. I was already impressed by this fantastic machine, but your review is so musical and you really know how to bring out the best, most musical and fascinating sounds out of the synth. You have convinced me that I must get this synth and as it’s my birthday soon I’m going to treat myself to, what looks like for me, one of the best pure and fun little sound design tools ever. Thanks for your fascinating and totally brilliant review.
One of the best or maybe even the best review on YT of this little gem in our opinion. It would be really nice if @Stimming reviewed it again because of the new OS3 and now even 4 - that would be fun!
That moment around 14:15 when it automatically recognizes what parameter to use by locking on to the first knob you turn, is actually identical to how it's done in FL Studio for like 15 years or something. I'm glad to see this fine bit of UX transposed to hardware synths.
The fact that they have a section in the manual for using the MicroFreak with VCV Rack is something I really appreciate. Great for a n00b like myself :)
Very nice review of the major features of the synth. I would add that the black keys are raised and the black lines separating the white keys are raised too so you can develop a sense of touch with the synth as it’s more than a uniform flat keyboard surface.
This synth seems to me MicroFreak will become what the Juno 60/106 was to so many bands and musician in the 80’s: An inexpensive, easy to program, but wonderful sounding instrument that can be easily transported. Arturia hit the mark on this one.
I haven't done anything music related since high school, yet I'm buying one of these just to experiment with, might make some fun sound effect samples with it as well as just... learning to use it as intended. or in other words it's drawing me in and demanding I play it...
After a month with it I agree 100% this is a very inexpensive and powerful instrument ... The depth of possibilities is astonishing... This is for me a real masterpiece ( even if certain flows occur )
Having a lot of fun with mine even with minimal music experience, it's a magnificent sound effects engine, that may convince me to try learning more to make a little music
This thing sounds so good, and looks so much fun to use. I think Arturia really made something special with the Microfreak! Great review! I'm going through the whole playlist now!
The Micro Freak is the most fun I’ve ever had with a synthesizer. I’ve owned it for a week and I look forward to sitting down and playing with it every day.
WOAH ok at 5:20 when you start comparing the keys and show the fast attack time on the Micro Freak and how fast/responsive it is. This thing can make sounds that are flatout impossible with traditional keys. I'm sold.
I've been interested in synths for a couple of months, and have been doing a lot of research. Halfway through this video I bought one of these. Great review of what appears to be a great product, and incredibly entertaining to boot.
Very good review, you would have sold it to me if I hadn't just bought it today. Just a few things I'd like to add, the Arpeggiator is pretty cool actually, it has a mode where every time you enter some notes it makes a random sequence out of it (you can set it anywhere between 4 and 64 steps). If you press the same notes again it will generate a new pattern with those notes and keep looping it. The Sequencer is pretty powerful indeed, it's 64 steps and has 4 lanes of automation. (Just scroll through the steps and change the parameter). And Spice and Dice can actually be really cool. It randomizes the Gate amongst others, so if you set Spice high and set the gate time lower there's a bigger chance of notes being skipped. It's also much more interesting with longer sequences in my opinion. It adds a bit of Generativeness to the whole synth. I really like all the little things from Modular Synthesis they put in there, like the plaits osc's, keybed, loads of modulation options and these subtle generative features fit in very well.
So aggravated with you and this channel to be honest. I am suffering with a fever and delirium resulting from your Octatrack video and now full blown GAS attack is compounded with a near catastrophic result! 😉 Much like yourself portability for my set up on stage AND studio is crucial. This seems like a great item to pair w Digitone Digitakt Circuit , MonoStation, and Model. It almost seems Mfreak is to Model in its near knob per functionality as well as minimal menu use. The LFO is a dark screamer! Sine is ethereal. Did you use external Fx w this demo? Peace
Everytime I decide that "actually, the microfreak sound doesn't fit my setup" I come back to this video and DAMN. I'm going to end up buying it just because of Stimming
Yes, a proper earth ground is needed for it all to work correctly (Loopop metions it in his review). That's why Arturia includes that power supply. Your mileage will vary with a USB power brick therefore.
9:10 i believe spice and dice are glitching out because you're not using the correct power supply! or something like that. loopop explained it in his video. looks like a really neat synth for the price
very good review, great personality, very sympathetic. everything you could possibly want from a review(er). i just happen to not having fallen in love with that synth but that's also important for a good review so you can decide. great work!
Hey Mr. Stimming in case you ever release more than just hot shit, I definitely recommend a career as a technical RU-vid Star!!! I love the way you explain with enthusiasm and technical understanding in 30 minutes what it's all about and which possibilities the respective test candidate offers or doesn't offer. So please (yes, I am a fanboy;))... just continue like that! ;-* Greetz from HH
I am at 22 minutes right now. If Stimming likes a synth up to this point it pretty much means I will like it too. I sort of skipped over this one when it came out. I would say this is on my "want to own" list now.
I just bought one of these today....it's supposed to be delivered tomorrow....It's amazing what you can do with less money in today's technologically Advanced world.....To hear it from you that this Synth is Optimum... for the money....but not necessarily.....Means the World.....You have a Degree of Strict Justice in your appraisal of Electronic Music Equipment.....Which is necessarily Respectable.....I actually decided to Watch a Review after I actually already purchased a Unit......Great Video....!
Thank you for a fun and comprehensive review of this interesting (& obviously powerful!) little synth. Not 100% sure it’s for me, mainly due to the keyboard, but I think you’ve demonstrated it so well I think it’s going to be hard for me to resist getting one:)
What a legend! (Both the man and the instrument!) Seems like Arturia listened to you - in a firmware update since this video they added the functionality whereby holding Shift changes the knobs much faster. You can also switch it in the settings so that the fast movement is default and holding Shift lets you do the slower, fine-tune adjusts. It's so cool that A) Arturia are able to release updates and improvements for the hardware after it's been released (take that, analogue;), and B) Arturia actually keep releasing updates! Years after its release. I will save up and buy one of these bad bois asap. Thanks for the great video!
Thx so much! Great demo. My question is; could a non synth-savvy person (though experienced keyboard player) be able to swiftly get this machine going? I know the basic functions of a synth though have never operated lfo’s en envelopes etc before! Cheers my friend 👍🏻
Thanks to Stimming for that review as nice as everytime. That tiny synth makes so much unexpected sweet sounds. Something what i really need in an elektron search hours for sweetspots setup. Thanks Arturia
Yes Arturia do it please!! the shift button to scoll faster or so faster you turn the knob, the faster the value scrolls it would be great for a next update! please! because you have to turn this button all the time, it's not really easy and it takes a long time in the disign of the sound and I find it damage .. this is the only flaw I found him .. thank you for your video !
Well... I had discarded this synth based on what I was hearing on other reviews and stuff... but now... damn you showed some cool stuff, I can see it integrating in my setup already. EXCELLENT REVIEW as always! thanks man
they should do a full size 49 or 61 keyboard version with 16 voices and two separate filters, sampling, and better sequencer. maybe an xy mini pad ? love the keyboard. love it.
I literally thought this was a T-Mobile content related channel until I started watching your videos! The logo for the channel is almost identical. Thankfully it's an incredible channel about synthesizers!
14:30 DSI synths do the same, imho the best way to set up modulations. Great little synth, I really like the sound of it, and how quick to create very different sounds with it. I'll get one when they release it, at this price point its not even a question.
Who knew a synth review could be so entertaining? Stimming is as charismatic as he is knowledgeable. I laugh and learn in every video. Much respect sir; you are an internet treasure.
Thank you making me take a decision at last on which synth buy for my first synth in 20 years, so many cheap powerful machines these days! What where the 2 knobs you where tweaking in the first 20 seconds of this video?😮❤
You are such a good musician ! I loved the "Chords" part of the presentation - really a deeply moving piece, gott im himmung ! Best regards from Copenhagen,-
I would hate to correct Stimming on anything, but the keybed is actually touch capacitiy based completely, you can use those rubber tipped touch screen pens to operate the microfreak. On the bed there are metal conductive pads(it's a PCB wired directly to what I assume would be the first amplitude envelope) that work only when shorted between 2 or more contacts, and when your fingers are touching more of the keybed you get the pressure CV/Midi CCs. Also, the Microfreak needs the grounded power supply in order to make proper use of the pitch bend touch strip, otherwise it's slow and acts funny.
