Thanks Billy. I have the cheap one. Just as you say, it makes holes in the sheet metal when you try and get the studs off. Junk… I did not know their was a difference. Thanks for the helpful information. Phillip Hall

Short but golden knowledge.

I've gotten pretty good with the cheap one. I don't have any problems getting the studs to stick but still come off easy. I've actually been able to reuse studs most times. I think it's good to start out with cheap tools in some cases. Then when you use a good quality tool it makes it that much easier to get a better result. Of course it's always good to get a scrap fender or an old junk car to start off with so you can learn and make mistakes without doing damage to something valuable. That's just my opinion. Billy can let me know if I'm wrong. I'm not an expert. Just a guy who likes to play with cars😊

I had to order a new case and the springy thing studwelder part for my spitz (dent fix) sereval years ago and got to talk to the man that started the company and he told me he had never had anyone need a replacement transformer for his stud gun.every one laughed at me for paying 400 and sum dollars for it in 1986. But it is still getting the job done and sometimes I use it hard.

I burned out the spitz. That i bought back in 1987 just recently and bought the harbor freight one for the 100.00 bucks. It is the same weight as the old one and works just as good in my production shop! You should look in to a tool called the stud buddy, for pulling the studs, awesome tool! The new stud welder has the trigger button in a verry awkward place, but you get used to anything after some time.

I've found perfect timing using the HF gun with the smaller pins on thin metal but whenever I use the larger size there's a greater chance of pulling a hole. Those guns are night and day.
