The Andersons also gave me the most horrifying and near-traumatizing scene I ever saw on the tube when I was a kid in the Space:1999 episode "Dragon's Domain". I'm still surprised that it got past American censors back then, although the series itself was and still is pretty decent, I think.

It was delightful to watch it and see it all in hd and the quality was just as fantastic when it first came out all those years ago! My parents have all passed on and my mum passed away in 2019 and 95 and we always used to say! anything can happen in t next half hour! Thank you to all involved and to those that have passed! I saw the classic Thunderbirds as a kid in Finland back in 90s, and it still had same effect as for my oldman in his childhood back in 60s. I also saw Captain Scarlet via Finnish scifi channel between 2006 and 2009, before the channel ceased (while that same channel re-aired classic Thunderbirds, not any other supermarionation creation was shown, but Anderson’s Spacestation Alfa was aired along with old Doctor Whos).

This takes me back. This was on the Sci-Fi Channel Cartoon Quest block. They would run these episodes then run Captain Scarlet. Even now there is something charming about this marionette style of production. The creativity that came out of adapting to the puppets made for some interesting cinematography. Like Commander Shore in his "Murph-mobile." But on top of all that I find I really love the architectural design of the rooms and buildings of WASP HQ. There was just something undeniably likable about this 1960s future style. Looks like a world I would want to live in.

It seemed like such an optimistic and innovative period of time. Funny how many others my age (mid/late 30s) are also feeling this same way....nostalgic for a period of time during which none of us were even alive! So thankful that shows like Stingray were preserved so the old souls like myself can enjoy a glimpse of what the great spirit and innovative minds of that time period were able to create. Stingray is a British children's science-fiction television series created by Gerry and Sylvia Anderson and produced by AP Films (APF) for ITC Entertainment. Filmed in 1963 using a combination of electronic marionette puppetry and scale model special effects, it was APF's sixth puppet series and the third to be produced under the banner of "Supermarionation". It premiered in October 1964 and ran for 39 half-hour episodes. Set in the 2060s, the series follows the exploits of the World Aquanaut Security Patrol (WASP), an organization responsible for policing the Earth's oceans. The WASP's flagship is Stingray, a combat submarine crewed by Captain Troy Tempest, navigator Lieutenant "Phones" and Marina, a mute young woman from under the sea. Stingray's adventures bring it into contact with various underwater civilization's, some friendly and others hostile, as well as strange natural phenomena. In preparation for the series, APF acquired new, larger studios that it would continue to occupy for the remainder of the 1960s. Filmed at a cost of approximately £1 million,[3] Stingray was the first British TV series to be made entirely in colour,[4][5] a move intended to increase its appeal to the lucrative American market.[6][7][8] The underwater sequences were filmed "dry" by shooting the sets through thin aquaria, while surface shots were filmed on water tanks incorporating lowered back walls to create artificial horizons. Stingray was the first Supermarionation series whose puppet characters had interchangeable heads showing a range of facial expressions. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Stingray_(1964_TV_series)

Never even heard of it. It looks funny but stylish at the same time. And the music is good.

Oh yes wasn't WGN a great channel in those days? We lived in northwest Indiana in 64, I was 7 also. You couldn't tear me away from these shows when they'd come on.

@Mark Ross SuperCar Ha ha yes those were the days and this old timer had both the Stingray Sub and the fireball XL5 rocket toys my brother said the original XL5 with box went for 1900.00 on Ebay my mother donated all our toys, baseball cards ,and comics when we went to college, I like to think they would be worth a fortune but in reality they were well worn and played with often and some broken. not like today's collectors where everything's wrapped or displayed in plastic.

The similarities to UFO are so huge. Same great music score, Stingray = Skydiver, 3 interceptors, the underground HQ (well, here it is above and underground), …
