Very good tutorial, thanks a ton. 🏆 I didn’t realise the 4” stitching method is a thing. I will be more mindful of that going forward 👍 So far my quilts seems to be ok on washing them, without the batting coming apart 🤞However, famous last words right 😂. Also the trick of putting the quilt over your shoulder, absolutely genius!! I have learnt everything about quilting on RU-vid, so very grateful for your tutorial, such a pleasure to watch thank you 💕🌷🌷🌷💕

this will be my 4th quilt where i use the stitch in the ditch method. self taught thank goodness to YT videos. I love how thorough you have been and really taken the time to be simple yet aware of how and what we do step by step.

Thank you for showing how to use the pin tool I have one but didn't know how to use it properly

At 11:34 I talk about quilting from the center, this doesn’t mean stitch from the middle with thread, but rather stitch entire length of quilt in center of the quilt and then go in opposite direction. After many passes you will notice that the center is indeed first to be entirely quilted. The other confusion is with hand quilting, you definitely start in the middle and work out.

Thanks for this very instructional video, very nicely explained. When pressing your quilttop and your backing to the batting, do you set your iron on „permanent steam“, do you steam from time to time, or don’t you steam at all? And yet another question: The batting you use is not the selfadherent type, right? It‘s the normal type, and it will just stick a little to the fabric, not permanently? There is this kind of Heirloom’s glued type of batting, which will attach heavily to your fabric when heated, but I‘m a little afraid to use it, because I think it might do no good to the needle and the machine. Excellent video... I was taught to always begin in the centre of the quilt and work out... I noticed you are working from the outside and going all the way through. Can you explain why? Thanks.. I am new so was a bit confused with the different approach. Thanks.

I have used straight pins on a table runner but I always end up stabbing myself when quilting. Also if you use straight pins in a large quilt and you have to roll the quilt up to get it under the neck of the sewing machine, they will poke through the material and just be in the way. Hope this helps.

On a jelly roll quilt with the 4" limit on the batting I am doing stitch in the ditch. Are you saying that I would have to do crosswise quilting also? Size is 60 x 60"

Is it easier to start in the middle of the quilt to go out and then reverse to the other direction:

I have a newbie question for you... you show a split rail pattern in your top in this video. If you don't mind, please explain whether you used backstitching at the end of each pieced section or if you just turn the quilt and stitch all the way around each rectangle-shaped piece. Seems like a lot of work to stitch each individual piece of the rail (a lot of moving the quilt through the machine).

What color thread did you use, as you have different color fabric?

Looking for info on machine settings for quilt in the ditch. Should feed dogs be up or down? Tension? Stitch length using regular thread?

I would have liked to have seen the stitching on the back fabric....

on some of my quilts since i didnt know exactly what i was doing... I'd start at the center top and take it all the way down.... didnt know what to do with my threads... since i wasnt back stitching,... I tied knots.. I know its crazy, thats what i did!
