I think the key to hard patina is to wear them many days in a row. Even though we know that isn’t great for longevity. Same philosophy as with Iron Heart jeans, you have to beat the crap out of them. Then rotate them for the rest of their (or more likely your) time.

I think if I was going to participate in something like this I would be wasting money on a nice pair of boots to treat like total crap, so I would want to wear them 4-5 days a week and not worry much about other rotation at all. How many months it goes? Nine or something? Forget it for me still. When I used to have to wear the same boots every day for labor work because I didn't know better to have an extra back-up pair, I still wouldn't have won anything because they just would have been boring K-Mart boots or Payless shoes or something that nobody would have thought worthy but WORKED great for WORK stuff, right?

Can't see how or why anyone would enter TWO pairs or more when the second pair won't beat the other one and the other one probably won't beat some guy who can afford to ruin horsehide engineers or something. [this goes for nine months or something???]

I find the Truman's don't run quite wide enough and I liked the other last better that they discontinued. I may have mentioned this before.
