Stock Land Rover Discovery 2 takes on slippery climbs and deep water 

Such an awesome, powerful, classic car. Even without mods, it can handle some impressive stuff.

Probably my favourite Disco off road video! First of all as an owner of a pretty much stock D2 myself it’s great to see what it’s capable of. I’ve been in two minds as to whether or not I should do some mods incase I want to go off road but risk ruining it’s great on road manners, after watching this, for the type of off-roading I’m likely to do vs the amount of tarmac driving I do, I’m going to leave it pretty much as is - stock but with slightly bigger tyres. (255/70/16 ) Secondly, I just love the fact that you let the video and the vehicle speak instead of the usual running commentary and too much “selfie time” sooo refreshing! Plus of course it meant I could hear the gorgeous V8. It can really handle some stuff can’t it. I think maybe the one mod I might consider having watched you struggle a little is a rear diff lock, otherwise I don’t see what else is needed unless one is going extreme rock crawling or deep mud bogging etc. Great video, thanks. Good to see a stock DII off road. Use of the CDL will help the TC, which can be retrofitted, it made a big difference for us and the TC did not have to work as hard on ours on slippy forest trails and green ice (wet grass on clay). While the 18" look good, when you get to replace the tires look for some 16" rims for a bit more wall flex. Get some good ATs and the DII in stock will be even more capable, it competes well even with the 110 due to having the additional benefit of the aforementioned CDL and TC. I was with some lifted and decked out DIIs a couple of weekends ago and we were able to go everywhere they could, if a little more carefully at times. Owning a stock DIIa driving the right line is important as you found on the roots (4.30), we all been there. Keep on top of maintenance on these 20 year oldish vehicles and you will find makes a difference. Check chassis regularly, and for the dreaded rust beetle, we use a lanolin based rust agent such as Lanoguard, does not hide the rust but stops it getting worse. Off road use means more regular checks of course including coolant, oils, filters, etc. A number of good FB pages such as Strictly Discos and the Discovery Owners Club amongst others can help with issues and worth a look at discovery2.co.uk as lots of information on servicing and owners manuals, etc.. NAS spec info and workshop manual can be found on line too. Have fun.

Very tidy Disco Sir! I still have my 04 TD5 manual down here in Australia. Still drives better than the new 4x4's I drive for work! A lot slower , but better off road and drives like a luxury car in many ways. If maintained well , they give very little trouble and the TD5's get very good milage considering the weight. I love the videos of all of your Discovery’s ! Great off-road stuff . I need to ask you if you ever encountered a trouble code P1590 Rough Road / ABS . But no amigos showing and ABS working fine . But the engine performance feels down like if the ECU locked on the horsepower or something feeling numb. Any suggestions? I would appreciate your feedback!

Really enjoy the videos. Interesting to see the traction challenges with those 18s. I had a guy with 18s with the stock Perrelli tires get stuck right in front of me on a logging trail in flat mud. Thankfully the stock Michelins on the 16s didn’t give me that same issue. That was many moons ago though. Still love my D2. Which computer are you using on the mount left of the steering wheel?

great video! what did you do to the cooling system to make it run that cool? i would want mind to run about the same temps on your ultragauge i saw 81c. which is really low for a v8. i can not get mine lower than 88c during winter. i have the freelander diesel thermostat which got is from 95 to 88-90 and i always clean out my radiator and ac condensor when i get it muddy

If it is stock, as in standard, why is the front high, and why the steel bumper. My standard 2004 TD5 Landmark is standard, but not that high or with that bumper. This is modified , not stock, unless your specs are different .Great video all the same.

Making me nervous without that snorkel bro LOL gosh wait till you get some mud tires on that thing it will blow your mind if it's already doing that good with those haha I'm sure you know that. I don't just like the tread on mine but with my 16-in wheels I have really tall ones that I can air down and they just walk across things like some kind of tank on tracks. Sometimes I'll roll up to stuff hoping for traction control and it just floats across with 20 psi I have to like try to make it slip

Have you looked at the prices on D2's lately? It's crazy, they used to be thought of as unreliable, maligned and dirt cheap. I considered it a well kept secret how good they actually are. Wish I had picked up an extra one now but I've still got my 2001 and doubt I'll ever let it go.

That’s not a stock front bumper, also why were the wheels spinning when the rear had solid grip why didn’t the traction control kick in
