It’s a special plane cause it’s the last of a line of prop-era heavy interceptors with engines on the wings. Also from an era of airframes that could be bombers or heavy interceptors but before widespread multirole fighters.
I spaded it when it still had an air-spawn (and this bomber is probably the reason why rank 6-7 jets no longer have it). Its kinda like the Russian space program.... Also the landing flaps are the airbrakes that it can deploy under 630km/h! I wonder if we ever get the interceptor variant of this plane?
it was fun when i grinded it and realized that speed is on my side. outside of that, since they added the interceptor version of vaotour i would love to see the interceptor version of this(yak28P) with a radar and missiles.
I have played it like this: Choose the 3000kg Bomb, take off, steep climb (about 30° or even 40° with engine upgrades, 20° to 25° without), leveling the aircraft at an altitude of 8000m to 10km, gain speed until my bomb redicle is over a base I have selected, drop the bomb and then fly back to the base. Often you are not even behind the line of allied bases and you are already heading towards the airfield. Very effective but not a lot of fun. I have died in this thing due to these tactics about 10 times in 60 or 70 matches.
Additionally: usually you will be able to take off twice. I targeted two different bases on the first two runs and if was able to make a third run, I have chosen the 6 250kg bombs and dropped three on each damaged base.
Climbing so much is useless cuz Su-7's will steal your bases, better tactic is not climbing before you get to 1100km/h, then lightly climb trying not to drop below 1000km/h, drop bomb and return gliding or climb to the space out climbing everyone if someone starts chasing you
This plane is great in Simulator battles where you are harder to spot, and at 8.3-9.3 BR range, this is probably the only supersonic plane, except for maybe the f11
@@oiermontero2310 i think so but if i recall correctly the su-7 isnt really meant to fly supersonic for extended periods of time, i could be wrong though
@@dosidicusgigas1376 matches dont last that long anyway. I actually have had good games, climb like a monkey, bomb a base and try and catch an unsuspecting a10 3km below you
I know you don't play ground much but I think another thing you could mention in this type of video is how useful the plane is in CAS at various levels of upgrades. It seems like the big bomb could be useful in ground RB for clearing points and such, like a PE-8 that can get to the battlefield and RTB in a reasonable amount of time.
Nice a good idea and nice to see a stock vehicle played and then gradually get better performance, very nice to see this. But with these types of Planes/bombers at this BR no way to even bother trying to spade it in AirRB I would just rather do it in GroundRB cause you can get yourself more Xp from tank kills and have almost nothing to really bother you in the match well not nothing but not too much most matches that would be out there to knock ya out the sky. Gaijin REALLY NEEDS to fix the BR brackets decompress or whatever just anything where you have at least somewhat a chance.
best way i foiund was bombing and ground units for mig-27 and ground and ai air targets for mig-23, aim for flares first then usal route of ammo, bomb/rockets then get the missiles(if missiles are at the end of the tech tree(if not get the missiles while grinding), then get G suits and then movement mods and then survival mods
I really like this series. I haven't seen anyone doing a stock grind series, if it is worth it to keep grinding, cause some vehicles are really bad at stock but they get pretty good fully developed. Too bad the Yak28 sucks, I have it developed and bought, but I haven't used it.
I do fine with the Yak-28B. The only problem that I have with it is the fact that depending on the match or br, you can’t oneshot a base, but I know how to use the strengths of the plane to avoid dying and also get kills, even in proper dogfights. I beat a few F-5C’s in dogfights by making them bleed their speed and then rate-fighting and energy trapping them.
Why is it like that ? It’s so weird In the German arado I can drop bombs at any angle and get a perfect hit .but this I have to be level before dropping or it’ll be super inaccurate.
Love my Yak-28B. Beautiful plane. Not the easiest to spade though, and the stock grind is painful. Eventually you'll get the big payload and the bases will fear you.
I like this video, it puts non premiums in the spotlight, one idea for bombers like these, is how would they perform in ground rb? Those bombs could be alot more points against player tanks. Just a thought. Keep it up!
Not gonna lie to you. I wanted to start a War Thunder series also called "Stock to Spaded" a few months ago but never got around to it! But here we are!
Hoping the yak 28B gets Fire extinguishers While also transferring to being the plane that drops the nuke for Russia. As it makes more sense as is more fair.
G'day tankenstein, While an informative video for some yet for me it's seeing fresh eyes playing it. Btw this bit is quick copy of a reply I made on reddit sometime ago with a few edits, () = edits. Yes at high altitude it's able to make it's maximum speed but under 3000 metres you gotta fly at like 70% throttle so to not hit it's Vline and rip apart. (originally the person was asking how it's speed was at high alt) BTW get used to glide bombing as level bombing is inaccurate as all hell. (from my experience level bombing never really worked as the high bombspread and rather inaccurate bombsight would often screw you over and flying at low alt is often a death sentence) I've found gliding in a 40° decend helps an aim up the target an drop a few seconds before as the bomb it's has a delayed drop (with bombay doors open). (these were what many on the forum talked about and even the wiki states to dive when making bombing runs to help the bomb to have a chance to hit) My strategy is when taking off get to just below max speed to the left or right of the airfield then put it in a 30° incline (maybe less when stock) an climb while afterburning to reach an altitude of around 16000 metres then fly to a bombing point an processed to glide bomb dropping down to 10000-8000 metres to aim the bomb then turn around an RTB. (My ARB strate which work around 60/40 % of times for glide bombing, Anyway that was more for 10.0 matches to be that high while 9.3/8.3 would see me up to 10 000 metres) BTW it has no air brakes so get used to doing sharp turns to bleed speed before landing the landing gear speeds are under 540 kmph but it's parachute works now to so that'll slow you down. (It used to have a bugged chute in that it would deploy at like 370kmph then disappear at around 280kmph but it was fixed some time ago) My loadout usually is the FAB-1500 for points or FAB-250's for ground targets, I also use flares prioritised for CM & take air target belts for the few chances I get to fire the cannons. (Imo I found that the FAB-1500 was better asif it hit you'd only need two trips and you weren't wasting tonnage with the FAB-3000 then needing FAB-500's to finish two bases. I would take FAB-250's for low alt anti ground target runs but the increase of superior attackers makes this unfisable. The FAB-3000 is only useful against large warships like the Forrestal class, Baltimore class and Pr.26 on some maps) Unfortunately this aircraft cannot destroy a base on it's own but it can be a good grinder an gets a nice colour scheme. (IMHO the quad camo is a nice skin then bare metal) This is definitely a not meta aircraft an a hard one to master but hope that helps fellow Yakovlev Yak-28B Brewer pilot. (If the FAB-3000 could destroy a base it be great but due to large bombs causing less shrapnel it ain't great with the only possible upgrade being either damage is change or we get the Tupolev Tu-22 Blinder-C for 9.7 as that aircraft would give the russian TT a great meta friendly bomber) I often still fly this bird out an still fine joy in it as afterall why else would I fly 150 missions in it an heh only 22 deaths is quite an achievement imo lol.
this is really one of the br compression issues, its a fine plane for 9.3, but its not a 9.3, it might as well be a 10.3, almost a 80% uptier rate, it only fights 10 to 10.3 planes, faster, more maneuverable, missiles galore, similar issue to the maus.
B29 and Vickers P were the worst to grind for me. There are some truly painful vehicles to spade. Would it be faster to grind a plane like this using it as CAS in ground battles?
I was so disappointed when I got this plane because I’d been looking forward to it while grinding up the Russian bomber line, and it just ended up being really mediocre: it doesn’t help that I took it up to 12.0 to play with my friend either lol
Would you trade that supersonic speed and your guns, for a better bomb load: Introducing the subsonic weaponless, flareless by default Buccaneer S.2 (can trade 2 bomb pilons for flares- none by default), easily think its worse than Yak-28B, and I main the thing
@@x_Degurechaff_x That is if you can get to a base before all the supersonic fighters get there with napalm/bombs, or other strike fighters or other bombers (which are all faster with the exception of the A10, as far as runway starts are concerned). Plus you need to be worried about being intercepted by fighters, or all aspect missiles. Taking a flare pod would be fine for the most part if the spotting wasn't so inconsistent, I've had matches where I was watching an AV-8A approach my from above and beyond from a solid 5km out but only actually spot it at .75km out. With that kind of dumb shit, good luck being fully aware of all the enemies and their missiles 360°. There's still the issue of you can rarely kill trailing fighters, because most of them you are slower than, less maneuverable, and bleed energy faster than, and if they overshoot you can't do anything anyway (trust me the AIM-9Bs are fucking useless if the person you are shooting at can still turn or at the very least pitch up). TL:DR you can't fight back even with flare pods 90% of the time.
whatever pitty points they give me LMFAO ...... 🤣😂😁 But this bomber shouldn't be facing things like the A-10 with all aspect missiles. Either give this thing missiles or something or drop it down to like 8.0 or 8.3 or around there.
yeah this thing is garbage. I was super hypted for a supersonic bomber, but you can't kill a base, any base, with it's loadout in one sortie... and it is WILDLY inaccurate when trying to precision bomb from altitude, even subsonic. it's only saving grace is (was) it's ability to go supersonic and stay at altitude. you were more likely to survive to make more than one bomb run... until we got loads of supersonic interceptors in it's BR range with good missiles.
I grinded my entire soviet toptier air with a talisman in this plane , at tree top level you can only speed up to about 1100kph which isn't the full potential of your engines, so whenever someone chases you you start climbing with full afterburner such a way you don't bleed speed. I remember once I earned 25k rp from just one game even after losing the match by making bombing sorties only. Rewards were much better back then.
